  1. Lol the bed mount is always an option. Maybe PM saveevryjp1998 on here. He's been through quite a few yards recently hunting MJs so he may have a tank in good shape or at least be able to get you one.
  2. They are out there it's just about finding one. Like I said they were all over the place 6 months ago.
  3. Can you tell how far you would have to bend the baffle out of the way? If it's not too far you could probably do it without issue. Idk how you would go about cutting it. Keep in mind no matter what you do, make sure the tank is clean inside before you install it.
  4. Huh strange, there was tons on ebay 6 months ago without baffles. If you can find one for an 86 V6 MJ it won't have baffles.
  5. ^^this if you can.
  6. You can also see about returning the tank and getting one without the baffles. That's what most guys use but with the tank running low, the fuel can slosh around and cause the pump to suck air.
  7. Looks like a real nice truck. I like the color quite a bit. I have to ask, what's up with the rear passenger flare? It looks like it got into a fight with another squirrel.
  8. That's exactly what it was. Thanks!
  9. Well I made a little progress on the truck tonight. Decided to mount the rear shocks and wow did they stiffen up the rear end. It doesn't feel like a trampoline anymore. They look pretty sweet under there too. I also tightened the rear bumper bolts and put a theft deterrent hose clamp on the tailgate. I later realized that my taillights are staying on with the truck being off so I have to figure that out now. I'm hoping it's not my new led bulbs. Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
  10. AFAIK there isn't a way to remove a sticker decal to reuse. If you take a really good picture of it with a ruler to show scale, you can have one made cheap or do it yourself if you have the know how.Wonder if I put a piece of paper an use a pencil if it would work Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Is the sticker raised? If so a pencil or chalk would work to make a copy. It would be easier to use a good quality picture though as the sketch would be harder to reproduce since it wouldn't give perfect edges. A graphics company or even yourself could make a copy of it using a good photo and software like photoshop to create an exact copy. If I had photoshop I would be willing to help you out but I do not. Maybe a member on here does?
  11. Basically, this is correct. It should be obvious that AMC would not have bothered coming up with a separate, smaller tank if they could have used one tank for both bodies. If you're stuck with a LWB tank and a SWB truck, you just have to experiment and see if you can find some way to shoehorn it in there. My guess it that you won't be able to do it. Yeah there is now way it would fit in front of the wheel well. It may fit in the spare tire location maybe. I used a 22 gal Dodge Dakota tank in my SWB and it barely fits and only because it was designed to go under the cab about 6 inches. I spent a lot of time measuring and researching gas tanks and there is just no way it will fit without major modification. Imo you are better off trying to sell it and get the smaller tank or look for other solutions if you really want the extra capacity.
  12. Yeah, thought of that too I didn't realize bolts like that would be different year to year. This is why I hate automotive bolts, they always seem to be a stupid 'custom' size. I had to buy 2 whole Shackle kits for my XJ just for the bolts cause nobody had them anywhere close to me and I needed them that day.
  13. Just go to a pick and pull and get a cheap part you could use and snag the hardware you need while you're there. As far as they know it came off with the part you're buying.

  15. The big tank doesn't fit under the SWB.

  17. I wasn't super motivated today so I only got around to putting the hood back on and getting it cleaned up. I've never seen the bed of this truck completely empty and it's finally looking complete! Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk

    Hoarding

For useful stuff I hoard a lot of electrical wire, plugs, and connectors as well as cardboard. For not so useful stuff I collected *cough* hoarded *cough* a lot of SEGA Genesis stuff throughout high school and the first year of college. I ended up with like 5 of everything they made for them (which is a lot). I'm still working on getting rid of it all.
  19. After getting the bumper mounted last weekend, I spent most of this last week on the wiring for my lights. I made some wiring diagrams to keep track of everything and to make future troubleshooting easier. The wiring diagrams I have so far are for my fog lights, the offroad light, and a diagram of the fuse box. I still have 3 open places for relays for future upgrades. I haven't made a diagram for the headlight circuit yet because I already had it mounted on the truck and really didn't want to take it back off to make the diagram. I got the lights all mounted to the bumper and the wiring run through the truck. The fog lights work great, but I don't have a switch yet for the offroad light so that still isn't operational. This lighting is horrible for taking pictures of the front of the truck. While installing the switch for the fog lights I decided to mount the E-brake cable so it actually could function. I didn't do this before because I couldn't decide on how I wanted to do it. I figured while I had the center console apart anyway, I should just use a bolt until I get a chance to weld it. The bolt may be plenty good but I'd prefer it to be welded in place. I had just enough material on the tab to put a decent size bolt through. I got all the wiring and E-brake mount done earlier in the week than expected so I decided to try out the XJ LUND visor again. This time I made it sit straight forward to see what it would take to mount that way. It works better than I had initially thought. From these pictures you can tell it looks 'fairly' normal on there. Only a trained eye will notice it sits just above the gutter. This is really the only problem area. It sits just above the gutter but with a roughly 3/8" spacer between the A-pillar mounting tab, all the holes are in a spot you can mount it. To me it looks pretty good considering how different the roof lines are, and from the inside it doesn't block your view like I had it before. After the truck is painted I might change my mind but for now I think I will make some spacers and mount it until I come across an MJ specific moon visor. Of course during all this other progress I was working on getting the truck running reliably and smoothly. It runs much smoother than before but is still a little rough and doesn't like to start very often or stay running on its own. I am doing a lot of battery charging and it is getting annoying. There was one thing that happened I wasn't prepared for and I really wish I was. I had the injectors unplugged to clear the gas out of the cylinders (it was becoming flooded). I reached into the window to turn the key over a few times to burn the fuel, it decided to start right up, idle perfectly smooth for about 3 seconds and then die. I was so shocked that it started so easily and ran so smooth that I didn't get to the injectors in time to keep it running. It is no longer smoking when it does run and its getting smoother so I know I am making progress, I just wish it was quicker.
  20. The speaker bar can be installed in the truck. There are a few build threads where people mounted it above the seats. Some have said it does sit a little low but if you are short enough or have shorter seats, it isn't a problem. I just recently saw one here somewhere they had mounted it across the front of the truck just behind the visors. I'll see if I can find that picture/thread. I believe there are also some people who have mounted the XJ soundbar across the backer-board behind the seats.
  21. I'd check with the rebuilder. It should still be under their warranty or at the very least under the water pump manufacturer warranty.
  22. How long ago was the rebuild? May still be under warranty.
  23. yes they do. When you put it back, it's really not necessary to bend them back so tightly. The trim holds it in pretty well.
  24. In my honest opinion, I would use the 96 for parts or if you want to do a swap you would be better off using a 97+. Like you said, 96 is a bastard year and you'll probably run into weird problems. It would be a challenge but can be done. If you swap everything from the 96 then it won't be a problem but swapping only certain parts may give you problems. What exactly is hard to say.
  25. I have one cut down in mine. Only problem is that it doesn't cover the back of the cab properly. I cut the fiberglass shorter than the cloth and wrapped it around the back to give a clean edge. It does sit a little lower than the MJ one so if you are tall it may be a problem. I'm 6'4" and on my taller bucket seats my head just barely contacts the ceiling but it works really well.
