Also make sure you shift the transmission into neutral to shift out of 4 low. Take a look under the drivers side of the trans and inspect the t-case linkage to make sure it isn't bent or bound up.

It's not only Pintos that had the fire risk. XJs were also susceptible. The "fix" was adding a hitch that was also very thick and ran down the frame rails, yet fires still occurred from heavy rear end collisions, made more frequent by small cars going under the bumper/hitch of lifted vehicles and hitting the tank directly. This doesn't stop me from owning 2 XJs but I wouldn't choose that route if I didn't have to even though the odds of this happening are low(knock on wood). But that's just me. I'm still interested in how this will turn out and what options there are for this setup. This will help others out who are looking to add an extra fuel tank or even a water tank of some kind.

Drip rail moulding clips?
Dzimm replied to dasbulliwagen's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Those are the worst car washes for your paint. That car that just went through ahead of you deposited all its dirt in the cloth and it is now being slapped against your paint.. Older vehicles with bad paint anyway, no problem. Vehicles with good paint stay away!! -
My 1990 mj pioneer long bed named "chee"

That's a nice looking truck. Glad to hear the work on it is done correctly. As for the locker, remove the diff cover and inspect the locker. Lift the rear end up so you can spin the carrier around to see all sides. You may find some markings or tell-tail features of the locker to give it away. If not look at pictures of different styles on Google and post your own picture of it here and someone may recognize it. -
Wow that sucks man. I'm really surprised the windows look to be intact?

Check out my build thread for many pictures of it. I tried it two different times and the second attempt was better.

Well the truck will be on hold for a couple weeks as I just got a killer deal on a new XJ. It's a 95 with 165k miles. Super clean interior, floors are long gone and have new pans riveted over the old ones, new radiator, and it runs great. The passenger side motor mount bolts sheared off in the block so I had to get that fixed and will soon be going to the Super Brown Dog mounts. $800 for the Jeep and $100 at Midas to remove and replace the sheared bolts and I got myself a nice new DD. My white 2dr will soon be up for sale since I no longer need it. Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk

Someone quick! Get the good parts! -
You won't find many people who have rebuilt these due to them being available at any junkyard pretty cheap. And with oem equipment inside them, they should run forever*. *until something causes them damage. I would never spend that much on an aw4 rebuild. I just spent $800 on a pretty clean/fully functional 95 XJ. Got the whole jeep for little more than what you want to spend on rebuilding a trans to less than oem quality/dependability (due to Aftermarket parts, not knocking your rebuild skills). Ultimately it's up to you but that's a lot of money to spend on a trans like the AW4.

Used for ice racing. Image Not Found I figured for racing they would have upgraded the t-case anyway but J guess running stock you could do it. But like stated above, without upgrades I feel like the stock case would explode after some time at those speeds.

I was wondering the same thing. I can't even think of a reason for it over 45 mph let alone your 70..

What do you do with your canopy/topper when it's off?
Dzimm replied to DirtyComanche's topic in The Pub
My dad used to store his topper in our unused dog kennel in the back yard. We had a fenced in yard so the kennel was kinda pointless. Anywhere up off the ground is good and out of the way but make sure you strap it down so it doesn't get blown over in a strong wind. If you have a shed, lean it up against the back side and attach it to the shed itself. -
Those spacers are actually hardened steel bushings we use in our drill guide blocks at work so those are the strongest part in there. I'm most concerned about the bar pin itself shearing. I'll be keeping an eye on it for sure and may swap it to a BPE. If I do swap it I'll definitely try out that method of removing the bar pin. Thanks!

I haven't been doing much with the truck recently. I've been pretty busy and looking into my issues with my XJ along with looking for another XJ. Tonight however I did have some time to tinker on the truck. I got the driver side coil spring retainer clip installed and the brake line fitting and bleeder screw replaced along with a new section of rear brake line and fittings. This was pretty easy and straightforward. The front shock however was a pain. As you can see in the picture I had to make some spacers to bring the bar pin up slightly so the shock would clear the axle. It's solid but was pain to keep the shock from extending and get all the spacers and washers on while the shock slowly extended. It took me about an hour to install 1 shock. It was ridiculous. I'm really not looking forward to doing the passenger side. They do look very nice though. Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk

Check the junkyards first. Many with 200k or less miles and they go from like $100-$200 on the high side. Prices may vary around you.

This should be pinned in the diy/tech section for easy reference. Very useful info here.

Don't buy a rebuilt trans! They are never rebuilt well and don't last. Also the cost is insane. As for getting ripped off on used transmissions, that's the game you have to play. Check Craigslist or better yet go to a junkyard. They are pretty cheap there and usually have some sort of warranty if they don't function properly. Either way it usually isn't a good idea to buy a rebuilt trans.

Thanks for chiming in. I have a column shift. No problem. Give it a month and someone will ask this about the floor shifter. Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk

As for the floor shifter, it has a little piece to slide and adjust it.

Well I've got no choice but to drive it to my house and then to where I'm gonna be welding it.. Do you think it'll screw the body up pretty bad to drive it cautiously until I weld it?

So I came across a decent xj on Craigslist. The guy wants $800 for a 97' with a set of 33" and 31" tires, a spare 94' aw4 and t-case, and some good center caps for my Eliminator wheels. The xj needs a little work and is pretty rusty but what has me worried is that to fit the 33" tires, he just cut the fenders back. Front and rear.... So the pinch seam no longer exists in the rear. It is only about a 1/16" gap on the inner and outer fender so I could weld it up but I'm wondering if there is lasting affects of not having that pinch weld and if it's OK to drive for a little while with the gap..

Wow this is pretty sweet. Nice find!

I'm of course not speaking for the seller , but in the description it said it wouldn't let him post it as a good title because it was modified . I personally believe because he listed it as a 98 4 door Comanche ( which doesn't exist of course ) is the reason it's posted that way . He did post pics of the underneath this time ( not bad ) . 4 matching flares ( and door panels ) would definitely help sell that truck IMO . Ok that makes sense. It is a very nice truck. Would consider it if I had the money.
