Been out for the last couple hours to move a '97 Grand Cherokee over so I could pull the engine. Started right up after putting a battery in it. Spent 10 minutes trying to move it with no luck. Would shift through all the gears OK but wouldn't move. Then something goofed in the shift mechanism and I couldn't move the shift lever at all. Removed the console, Shift lever holder and the the shift and throttle cables. No luck. OK. I'll crawl underneath and move the lever by hand. I crawl underneath and look. NO TRANSFER CASE. NO DRIVE SHAFTS. The light comes on. I sold them about 3 weeks ago. Forgot all about it. It's time for a stiff one.

Looks good. Like maybe it was worth a 10 day wait.

I think I get a bigger kick out of finding and retrieving old iron than I do restoring it. Found this at an abandoned saw mill North of Trinidad. Had to cross country 2 miles, no road, and sacrifice a dozen trees to get it out. 1942 Willys, 1/2 ton pick up. 100% complete. A week after getting it home had it running. Paid $75 for this 1968 DeVille. Give you some idea of the shape it was in when I got it. Sorry. No pics. Take my word for it. It was sorry, sad shape. Rebuilt the 472 engine, TH400 tranny, U joints, steering, shocks etc., etc. The only things I did not replace or repair was the springs, they didn't need it, and differential altho I did remove the cover and inspected it. This is only 2 out of a couple dozen. If I can find the pics and get them loaded i will submit them. And a couple airplanes.

A U. S. Navy destroyer stops four Mexicans in a row boat rowing towards California . The Captain gets on the loud- hailer and shouts, "Ahoy, small craft. Where are you headed?" One of the Mexicans puts down his oar, stands up, and shouts, "We are invading the United States of America to reclaim the territory taken by the USA during the 1800's." The entire crew of the destroyer doubled-over in laughter. When the Captain is finally able to catch his breath, he gets back on the loud-hailer and asks, "Just the four of you?" The same Mexican stands up again and shouts, "No, we're the last four. The rest are already there!"

2.8 Carb/cab Wiring Questions
jimoshel replied to mpace6a's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You could go to a after market carb. They're big bucks tho. S10's are so common you should be able to find what you need in any JY. I believe '85 was the last year for the S10 carb. May have been '86. Personally I believe you would be better off swapping to a TBI. Much simpler than a carb and improved performance. If you can't find what you need at a local JY, drop me a line. I may be able to help. -
Meant to elaborate on my answer but got interrupted. Not knowing what all the shop replaced but all the symptoms sounds like a clogged exhaust. Did ya ever shove a potato up any ones exhaust? Does exactly what you're describing. A couple years back a guy took his car in for a new muffler. He had been messing around with guys sister who installed the new muffler. The guy stuffs an apple in the muffler B4 installing it. After many days of frustration, and dollars spent on trouble shooting, the apple finally dried up and got blown out the tail pipe, destroying any evidence of vandalism. Start the engine. feel the muffler and or the tail plpe. It should get hot at the down pipe first and the heat should gradually move back to the end of the muffler. If the front of the muffler, or pipe, gets hot and the outlet doesn't, then it's clogged. That shouldn't be the cause of the low No 1 cylinder but what the heck. Just a thought.

Since it was running OK B4 the muffler swap, I would be checking the the new muffler, installation. Kind of hard to screw up a muffler swap but hey. Them guys in muffler shops are good and if there's a way to screw it, they'll do it.

2.8 Carb/cab Wiring Questions

Ground looks like it may have been for a aftermarket Amplifier. Not OEM. -
A couple months ago my CMC started leaking. I've just been stuffing a wad of paper towels over the fuse junction box and living with it. Yesterday while in town it went out completely. Naturally I was in the middle of town and was trying to hit all the lights so I wouldn't have to stop. That was interesting. At least I haven't lost my 'clutchless shifting' skills.Ordered a new one from Auto Zone $30. Should be here in a couple days. I'm not going to put any fluid in the new one. That way I won't have to worry about it leaking.

The AX 4 and 5 was standard behind the 2.5. The AX5 is 15 and 5/8 inches long. The AX15 is 16 and 1/2 inches long. The AX15 has a 1inch(approximate) steel plate between the transmission case and tail housing. The AX 5 doesn't.

Contrary to popular belief, a smaller engine can be harder on the drive train than a larger one. Reason being people revving it harder and slamming the gears when shifting and letting out the clutch than they do with the larger engine.

The Brits buys them, but then sends them to their Irish neighbors.

Is It Safe To Torch A Transmission Bolt?
jimoshel replied to eric.toupin's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Lower the transmission as far as it will go. I've never had any problem but keep a eye on the fan blade- radiator so they don't meet. Now use a 18mm socket with a u-joint and as many extensions as you got so your rachet-breaker bar is near the rear of the tranny. It's a tight fit but it can be done.- 9 replies

Exactly what is the weakness of the Dana 35? Spider gears? Ring gear? tubes coming loose? Metal flexing, etc. Is there a way it can be overcome or improved? Swap gears with stronger aftermarket? Weld the tubes? Truss it? Drill holes in the assembly for improved air cooling? Don't start on swapping with a Dana44. or AMC20. I'm just curious as to what the weakness is. In reading everything the C clip coming loose or breaking and letting the axle take off seems to be the biggy. :dunno:

Having got my fingers stepped on many times while crawling around on the floors of some of Paris's finest (?) bars i can honestly state that the smells encountered were no worse than my drive thru NYC with the window rolled down.

'One is never enough' should just about cover it. . :MJ 1: .

4 Cylinder Valve Cover Vent
jimoshel replied to gconcilio's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It sucks clean air in from the filter thru the engine. Engine will run very well without it but will be admitting dirty air into the engine. -
Best Rear End Swap Out For A Stock Dana 35 And Gears
jimoshel replied to Bmoore2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I reckon. I've bought complete running '97 XJ for $500. Feel I'm doing good if I can get $100 for the rear end.
