  1. I will go the limit to keep it from being scrapped. But 140 miles one way is just to far without some assurance it is still there. Tried calling the highway patrol but got no help there.
  2. Charts are great for guestimating but I've found in actual practice they're not always right.. Think of them as a starting point and go from there.
  3. By the gist of the messages, Mike was on his way to Sacramento and the MJ broke down near Genesee. Mike is continuing on his way, which means he is unavailable to confirm if the MJ is still there or not. I am 145miles from there. DJM is 110. Not to far if it's still there. To far if it isn't. If there is anybody in the Denver area can get this truck and hold it for me, one day, I will reimburse them any expenses. Jim
  4. I called my brother in Denver to go get it for me. Seems he wrecked his truck and was unable to. May call the guy and go get it myself. PM sent
  5. Looks good. I like.
  6. Vet just called. I lost her. Damn but I'm getting tired of getting attached to something, or someone, and then have them get taken away.
  7. In 1960 when I was in Spain a lot of the guys brought American made cars over. They ran terrible on the Spanish gas available. Could drive 90 kilometers into France and get better gas but that was inconvenient. What I did to my '52 Mercury was install 2 head gaskets under each head and retard the timing as much as possible. Helped some but not a viable option with modern computerized cars. Viva Le Progress.
  8. Went to feed this morning, only had 3 horses show. Went looking for the pony. found her down and in obvious distress way out in field. Couldn't find any signs of injury. Got the trailer and got her loaded and into the vet. He made an examination and came up with possible intestine problem, maybe. Maybe something else. Won't know for sure until Monday. Sure hope I don't lose her. Lil Miss Blue Image Not Found
  9. A clean work area is a sign of a sick, deteriating mind.
  10. Thinks the 2.5 is a great engine. Reliable, efficient, dependable, economical, etc, Just don't expect V8 performance from it, Although mine has showed up a V8 now and then. Not familiar with the problems your having so unable to suggest anything, other than check all vacuum lines, fittings. Look for a vacuum leak. Give the guys a chance to respond. They don't live here 24-7. But they will help with good advice.
  11. Not the starter. The starter relay or the solenoid. The solenoid is what makes the clicking noise. It don't get the voltage from the relay, it don't click.
  12. Thanks for the tips guys. I got it. Wish now I'd asked BEFORE I started. There is a bolt going thru the PS mounting bracket into the Intake manifold. It is directly behind the PS pump making it necessary to remove the Pump to get to it. With this bolt in place there is no way to get enough wiggle room to remove the water pump. By following the above suggestion, the PS pump can be removed without having to seperate it from the 'C' bracket, which was my initial mistake.
  13. I'm in the process of changing a water pump on a 1988 4.0. As anyone who's ever done this knows, it's necessary to remove the power steering pump first. I got everything removed and the water pump replaced and am in the process of putting everything back together. How in hades do you start the 4 bolts directly behind the pulley that holds the pump to the 'C' bracket-brace? There is a 1/2 in space between the rear of the pulley and the brace. I have 3/4 inch fingers. I just finally drilled a hole in the pulley big enough to clear a 13mm socket and am doing it that way. There has to be a better way. The book is no help. It just says "remove the PS pump" Any help appreciated. Jim :dunno: :???:
  14. A GOOD cup of coffee is serious.
  15. I cut a big hole in the side of the trans hump. When the tranny starts getting hot I fan it with a news paper. :fool:
  16. There's a '91 XJ at the local P&P that hasn't been stripped yet. It's a 4dr. Would it help ya any?Jim
  17. EBay has them. Prices range from $30 to $90. I got one about 6 months ago for $49. Seems to be working OK, so far.
  18. Personaly I don't wear jewelry, except occasionally a wrist watch. Mostly just a carry over saftey habit from working around high voltage and machinery. I would be interested in key fob(s).
  19. I got a nice '47 Diamond T out of a junk yard South of here a couple years ago. I got it the same way Johnny Cash did. A piece at a time. First I got the fenders, doors, and hood.$75 Then the then the engine, transmission and drive shaft.$195. Then the cab.$75. then the frame, bed and axles.$200. Did this over a 3 week period. The guy knew what I was doing. He didn't care. It was legal and he got his money. Spent another $500 and 3 months fixing it up, running and paint.Swapped it straight across for a '42 Harley '45. There's always a way to get around dumb laws, rules. Question is just whether it's worth it or not. And sorry, no pics. I'm a mechanic. Not a photographer.
  20. Top left looks like a billiard ball. And no, I wouldn't eat it.
  21. first things first, Change all fluids and filters and grease it. Remove wheels-drums and inspect brakes, linings, pads, drums and rotors. Replace, service as necessary. Lights, turn signals, wipers.
  22. I stole my MJ. Can I just make up a VIN?
  23. Have to think about what was the most useful, had several. Now what was the most useless? Don't even have to think about it. Wife got me a gadget that fit over the hump with places for 2 cups and a CB radio. I was driving a '77 J20,4sp, shift rod stuck up out of the middle of the hump and I already had a 500W ham radio under the dash. Think I finally gave it to the kid across the street to put in his Toyota.
