  1. Keeping oil from the seal is their primary purpose. Slinging it all over the place is just a side benefit.
  2. :agree: Me to.
  3. EBay. I've bought several from there. Just watch the prices. I've seen from $35 to $75 for them.

    Tow Bar options?

Normally I use a J20 for towing. When towing a Jeep, MJ or XJ there is no problem. When towing a full size vehicle I throw 500lbs dead wieght in the bed of the J20. Really makes a difference when cornering. Did the same thing when I towed a XJ with a MJ. A couple hundred lbs in the bed. Makes a hairy situation more comfy. I realy prefer to use a tow dolley. Beats a tow bar all to H*ll.
  5. Was working in North Bend Or and drove 101 to job sites in Eureka and San Jose many a time. It's a scenic drive and worth the trip, if your not in a hurry. Watch the leaf covered curves, they're slick, and the logging trucks. Jim
  6. Shucks. It was worth a try. :D Haynes, and Chilton are OK for a general reference but they're just not good for finer details.
  7. When in doubt, just find a local MJ nut,er, enthusiast and just give the truck to me, er, him. Let him worry about it. Without knowing for sure or having a definite reason to change, I'd just stay with the current set up.
  8. 9 mj's, 6 manuals, 2 plastic cases.
  9. Over 40,000 acres burnt and still growing. Image Not Found View from back yard Image Not Found View from West fence It's not to bad now but the horses were going crazy earlier from the smoke and ashes.
  10. Well it sure beats carrying a audio signal generator and distortion meter.
  11. I'm a gud spelur. I just kant tipe.
  12. Just a tip. One way to check a garage sale speaker is to take a 1 1/2 volt battery. Everybody carries one in there pocket, right? Connect the battery to the terminals on the speaker. The cone will either go in or go out. Reverse the battery. The cone will now go the opposite of what it did before. Hold the speaker to your ear and listen for a scraping sound as the coil moves. Other than a click when first applying voltage it should be silent.
  13. I got one. Pay for the shipping it's yours.
  14. It certainly looks like there worth more than you paid. A good quality set of 6" speakers goes for around $40. Or more. The door speakers on a MJ are 5 1/4 inches. However 6-7inchers will fit. Just drill new mounting holes for the attaching screws. The 2 speakers that go in back behind the door are ovals.
  15. Yes, there is. At this point I want to thank and show my appreciation to 2 persons. My GF who was adamantly opposed to the whole thing but did a 180 and became totally supportive once I made my decision to go and especially to Mike who by his graciousness made it possible. And to all the support shown by CC members. WOW!! I will keep every one informed of the progress of getting it back on the road with Mike getting first shot at it when I decide to sell. Jim, If I decide to sell. Collecting MJ'S. It's habit forming. LOL
  16. A frustrated wife buys a pair of crotch less panties in an attempt to spice up her dead sex-life. She puts them on, together with a short skirt and sits on the sofa opposite her husband. At strategic moments she uncrosses her legs ... enough times till her husband says... "Are you wearing crotch less panties?" "Y-e-s," she answers with a seductive smile. "Thank God for that... I thought you were sitting on the cat." :clapping:
  17. Looks like a fuel pump for a 1916 Stanley Steamer to me.
  18. He's trying to find somebody to read it to him.
  19. I really have a hard time believing some of the prices being paid for MJ's around the country. Are they really that desirable, rare or is it just a EBay mentality? The most I have ever paid for a MJ was $400. It was 100% rust free, all there and I drove it home. 44 miles. :dunno:
  20. I used to be an avid fan-user of black electrical tape. Used it for everything. Always hated the way it would start unwrapping as it got older. Tried everything, Tiewrap, making a loop and running the end back under it. Found a product called 'Liquid tape' at Wally's. You put it on with a brush and completely cover the splice. Works great. have several joints over a year old and exposed to the elements still as good as new. Highly recommend it. Jim

    300K Mile MJ

    :agree: X3
  22. The story. I wanted to go get it the minute I saw the post. However I felt near Denver, a couple million people, 3 hour trip, surely somebody would get it. I fretted over it all day Mon and spent a sleepless night . Tue morn I said 'OK, I'm going. Gf pointed out all the roadblocks, distance, time, somebody beat me to it, the state got it, etc, Finally said to heck with it. I'm going. At that point the GF became supportive and said OK. Lei's go. I was going on the assumption I had 72 hours, not 48. Also that Mike had broke down on MOn. Not Sun, so I was counting on 2 days that I didn't have. Loaded 4 tires, couple sodas, the dolly and away we went. All the way I'm berating myself, It's gone, nobody will want it. It's still there. It's gone. Nobody wants it. It's still there. Did 80-85 from Pueblo to Denver. Did 65 to dead stops and wait, bumper to bumper traffic from Denver to Genessee. Missed it until I was pass it. Next exit, cross over, back to exit and back to MJ. Was kinda surprised to find it wasn't stripped. Didn't need the tires. Cab was open but Ign was locked. Searched cab and under hood hoping Mike had left key somewhere. He hadn't. Under truck, remove shift rod, move tran shift lever to N.. Couldn't do anything about the front wheels cocked and locked at a angle. Dropped the dolley, drug MJ back far enough to get in front of it. Moved dolley in front of MJ and guessed the angle necessary to place it so it would load centered with the cocked whells. Got it loaded, Hooked the Dodge back up to the dolley, checked everything again and away we went. A tow truck pulled into the area as we pulled out. Don't know if he was after the MJ or something else. There was the orange tag on the tail gate latch. The 48 hour deadline was 11:20AM on the 15th. I pulled up behind it at 6:30PM of the 15th. Back to Pueblo but at a more liesurly pace. Must of been something going on at the REdRock arena. Had a half hour delay there for traffic. 20 minute break at Pinion truck stop for coffee and blueberry pie, arr back home at 10:30PM. Time:6 hours Mileage:310 miles cost:$51.90 for gas, $10 coffee an pie. Benefits: 1 MJ saved from crusher. Was it worth it?: Yes Would I do it again? Yes. Side note. I have a 4.0l engine from a '88XJ with 30K miles on it. Guess where that motors going. Jim Image Not Found
  23. Gee, Guess I was wrong.
  24. GOT IT! Now ya'll excuse me. Gonna have a cold one. Feel I've earned it. Jim
