Can Spell Comanche (2/11)

  1. What type of mix are you running in your radiator? You could try bumping up the glycol (antifreeze) content so that it runs a little hotter.
  2. Make sure you check your ground wire too.
  3. Thanks everyone! Time to go hunting in the salvage yards.
  4. Ok then if I just grab the whole assembly from the yard I could upgrade the transfer from the current np207 I have to the np231 and snag a newer(ish) tranny at the same time right? What about the torque converter? Did they all use the same one or is that different from year to year and/or engine?
  5. Hello, I have an 86 MJ with the 2.8 60 degree v6 and a904 transmission. That engine is part slug and part cockroach but the slug in it needs to go so I'm planning on upgrading to the 3.4 complete with a weber 38 and headers after Christmas but my transmission has been on the fritz since day one when I got the truck a year ago. I know the A904 came with three different bell housing bolt patterns for Jeep. One of those was for the 2.5 AMC 4 cyl and the 2.8 gm v6 which shared the same bolt pattern. The question I have is if I can find another a904 in the junkyard that was used with the 4 cyl will it be the same transmission as what I have now or are the internals/torque converter different? Basically an a904 that was mated to the 2.8 is impossible to find locally and $100 for a salvage yard tranny is cheaper for me than a full rebuild of my existing one so if one off a 2.5 will work then I'm in business. Thanks, Dave
  6. Looks like that's going to be a really sweet looking MJ when its done. Have an '86 myself (third owner and the trucks never left the area according to the DMV) and getting ready to address floor pans and doors finally. Was thinking about putting a bedliner coating on my floorpans to seal out any moisture but now I'm leaning toward that POR-15 stuff. I'll have to wait till my next paycheck though because I just had to spring for a new tire. One of my old 31" BF Goodrich TA's finally gave out on me. Took it to the local Tire Kingdom to get a replacement and apparently the DOT date on the old tire was from 1987 so cause of death was extreme old age. LOL BTW- What is involved with upgrading the doors to the 97+ style?
  7. Anyone?
  8. Hello, I'm looking for a headliner backboard that will fit my 86 MJ. Let me know how much you would like for it and please send a pic. Thanks, Dave

    hey cool I'm in Sarasota.
  10. Jim, PM sent.
  11. Hello, I'm looking for the driver seat belt that will fit a bench seat. Its the part that is bolted to the floor and comes up through the seat. Looking for one that is preferably tan in color. Thanks, Dave
  12. Bump! I really need help on this one.
  13. Okay figured out the wires go to the neutral safety switch on the transmission but have no idea what wire goes to what post, there are three of them. I did manage to get it started by using the old screwdriver to the starter trick. Checked with autozone and I can get a new plug to fit onto the switch but still need to figure out the order of the wires. I have the Haynes manual but it kinda sucks in my opinion. None of the wire colors match with their schematic.
  14. Hello, I have a 1986 MJ with the 2.8 Liter V6 and had an issue last night. Don't ask me how but for some reason I had some wires wrap around my front drive shaft and get yanked out of their connections. I can't seem to figure out where they were connected to to put them back. :???: The image below is where the wires go to on the harness but have no idea where they go to on the other end. In the below image I need to figure out what connects to wire #1 and wire # 2 and whether or not there was a wire #3 and what that attached to. The truck was running when the wires got torn out and I heard a weird noise when it happened but thought maybe it was some rocks and mud getting kicked up so kept on driving. Drove it down to the gas station to get gas and after filling up went to leave and the engine wouldn't start (starter wouldn't even turn over) so I had to walk home and get my neighbors truck to have it towed.
