2.
Not any more. In 1971 I designed and built a ultra light using a Rotax 582 for power, 68" prop, 2.58:1 belt reduction drive. In 1985 I was flying up by Red River, NM and wasn't attention and the wind put me into the cliff, totaling the A/C. I started to go back several times and recover the engine but never did. As far as I know, it's still there. I will say one thing tho. Dollar for dollar you won't beat a Rotax for durability. Nice buy on the bike. If I'm ever down your way , can i take it for a spin?
3. You will also need the steering gear box. It took me 4 hours to convert mine.
4. There was a recent query concerning 31/10.50 with a 2 inch lift. I can't find it for a reply so just gonna start another thread and maybe he'll see it. White MJ is stock. Red MJ has 2 inch lift with 31/10.50-15's. 2 inch puck with stock springs. 6 inch extenders. Notice the grease fitting. I like that.
5. A couple years ago I spent many a night trying to discover a universal solvent. Something that would dissolve anything, especially rust. After discovering it, I couldn't find anything to keep it in. Anybody besides me noticed that the worlds getting smaller? :huh???:
6. Yes. Find a '84, '85 and some '86's XJ with a 2.5. Swap carbs. .
7. In July, this year. Dealer had a shiny new red Wrangler on display. I had nothing better to do so took it for a "Test run". On our return, the first thing the salesman had to do was go change his shorts. Second was run it thru a car wash. I didn't buy it.
8. Before swapping units, check them first and see what's bad. Get a ohm meter, usually part of a VOM. Remove the connectors. I'm not sure of the resistance of the gauge but the needle should peg when you touch the leads to it. The sending unit should read 0 ohms empty and 88 ohms full. Also don't forget the wiring. one of the connectors could be dirty or a shorted, open wire. There are dozens of 2wd-4wd conversions documented. Check the search and DIY section.
9. So that's where them things go. I 'm looking at 6 of them laying on the floor while trying to figure out why the engine I just rebuilt doesn't run.
10. I bet I have forgotten more about Jeeps than any two people here. That's my problem. I've forgotten it. :fool:
11. Always watched 'Baywatch" never noticed they had music.
12. Only problem I can think of is whether the shift mechanism for the auto would interfere with the shift linkage for the transfer case. Not sure if it's cable or linkage. I've got a column shift auto. Go out in the morn and take a look.
13. There's really not much any body can say to you at a time like this. My favorite is" Don't let the (Insert favorite derogatory name here ) get you down" You say you're good? Then start your own land scape business. When I'm down I like to jump in the plane, or on the bike and and straighten out a couple curves. Also popping off a few rounds helps. Especially if I have a pic of whoever ticked me off for a target. Good luck. Just don't give up.
14. It cost me a couple cigars, a couple hours BS and a couple favors but I got on a first name basis with the guys at the local P&P. Now I can just drive the truck into the yard whenever I go shopping. Before that, I carried everything in a .50 cal ammo can with a pair of vice grips being the most important.
15. Check with the MVD or State Police. I HAVE NOT DONE THIS but remove the dash pad. Cut out the the VIN tag far enough from the tag so when you weld it back in place the dash pad hides the weld. :D Or just swap the whole dash.
16. Thanks guys. I've been reading more in the last week on this than I ever did in school. There's lot's of info out there. Just gotta find it. Decided to go with the '98 ZJ but haven't decided on which MJ yet. Probably be the '87 cause the engine in it is bad. Wanted to go with a standard tranny but then figured why? Just use the complete 98 drive train, wiring and dash. Checked gas tanks and believe I'll modify the the MJ to accept the ZJ pump assembly. Already got the ZJ in the garage and started stripping it. Park the MJ beside it tomorrow and get this thing started. Glad I got my camera fixed 'cause I'm gonna be takin lots of pics. :wrench: I don't try to keep up with the Jones. I prefer to drag them down to my level
17. Tried search to no avail. Has any one did a 4.0 swap to a 5.2? Preferably in a MJ but even a XJ will help. If so, is there a write up on it in the DIY?

Remember

Not confusing nothing. Memorial Day is specifically for remembering the KIA-MIA'S. Thanksgiving day is being thankful for what we have, which we owe to the few who gave all.( BLU) :USAflag:

Remember

I am not a Preacher or a politician so I have trouble coming up with the right words but let us not forget why we are having this day and take a moment to remember the many thousands who gave their all that we have this day to celebrate. :USAflag:
20. I like the way this lad thinks, works.
21. DERN!! Forgot about that Speedo connector. However the panel still fits the hole and by either swapping the speedo head, which will keep the mileage correct, or swapping the cable. Thats what he said. I recently swapped a cluster from a '84, or '85XJ, I don't remember, but it had a 2.8 V6 into a '88 MJ with a 2.5. The tach should have been off reading a couple hundred RPM low. It wasn't. Checked it against a test tach and they were within 5 RPM of each other. Whatever.
22. I really feel for the guys that live in apartments or snooty, er, zoned neighbor hoods where they can't keep a donor vehicle. Maybe they could work out an arrangement with a local garage or service station or even a country friend who would let them park it in exchange for some of the parts, or something. Yesterday I bought this 1998WK for $350 and a 80 mile trip. It was rear ended and totaled by the insurance company. The fella bought it back from the ins co and was going to fix it, or something but the neighbors got bitchy and he had to sell. 133k miles. [/img] The 5.2 engine is going here, '98WK The AM_FM-CD-Cassette tape player is going here. The transmission is going here Both axles are going under here. The leather full power and heated leather bucket seats are going in here Tires and wheels are going here May sell the front clip or parts. The rest is going to the crusher. I would say that's getting my money's worth, not to mention the 35 cents I found under the back seat.
23. You got that right. Yesterday I bought a wrecked '98 Grand Cherokee for $350, All rear end damage. Drive train undamaged. 133k miles. The 5.2 is going into a '98 WK. The tranny is going into a '93. both axles are going under a '89 MJ. The full power leather bucket seats are going into a '87 MJ and the scrapped body is going to the crusher. At $220 a ton that's $310. The AM-FM CD and casette player is going into my '88MJ and I may make something selling front end parts. Or I may sell it to Sam and let him fix it. :jump: :jump:
24. XJ-MJ dash clusters from '86 thru '90 are identical and are direct swaps. The cluster from a a '84 -'85 XJ is also a direct swap but the panel is slightly different in color and gauge shape but the fits the same. You will also have to swap the temp, oil pressure sending units.
