Fuel Pump Question On 1984 Jeep Xj With A 2.8
jimoshel replied to ICEBOX's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well now, that was so obvious I never thought of it. -
Being Jeepers and off roaders, we all carry a tool box in our Jeeps. Right? Sometimes it's just one box for the garage and placed in the Jeep as needed. Others have two, or more, one for the garage and one in the Jeep. Question is, do you have good tools in the Jeep or Harbor Freight cheapos? Why carry good tools in the Jeep where they can get lost or stolen? But then again being broke down is no time for a cheapo that's going to break when you need it the most. Been buying, collecting tools for over 65 years and I only own quality, Craftsman, SK and Proto. Just wanting to see if I can start a discussion. I also believe a .50 cal ammo can can't be beat for a truck tool box. :MJ 1:

The cable has ring at the transmission end so it has to be pulled out that way. You will also have to remove the instrument panel so you can get to the cable going to the speedo head. Remove the other end of the broken cable. Re-install the cable housing to the head. Feed the new cable into the housing. and hook back up to the tranny, or transfer case.

Fuel Pump Question On 1984 Jeep Xj With A 2.8
jimoshel replied to ICEBOX's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The Jeep manual doesn't show it but the Chevy S10 manual shows where some engines have a block, spacer, between the pump and block and some don't. Something to check. If you want, pull the pump and measure the length of the rod. I will pull one of mine and compare. Also something to think about. The later years S10 V6 has a plate covering the hole where the pump mounts and a electric fuel pump in the line. There is a fuel filter mounted where the mechanical pump was. -

I Have Good-Bad One To Think Over ...
jimoshel replied to cz777's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well warm her up first. -
They have metal clips that rust and snap off almost as bad as the plastic ones do.

I wouldn't go over $400 here, but in that part of the country maybe $500. Just find every fault on it you can and point them out to the seller.

Fuel Pump Question On 1984 Jeep Xj With A 2.8
jimoshel replied to ICEBOX's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thought '86 was the last year for the 2.8 in Jeeps. Assuming that was a typo, or some one did a engine swap, there is no spacer. It's a little bit of trouble but to try and pin point the problem, tighten the 2 mounting bolts to where the pump rod is just contacting the cam. Turn the engine over. Observe the fuel pump, Slowly tighten the bolts while keeping and eye on the pump. It should never get so tight you can't wiggle it. Check the possibility it's the wrong push rod. -
I believe me and 64 Cheyenne was thinking the same. Mount the XJ handle on top of the hump same as in a XJ. Alexia has mounted it under the dash, if I read her post correctly. Wonder if she could show a couple pics covering a wider area of it installed. I remember the older cars had the brake handle under the dash.

Alexia' Remember that parking brake swap we did so I could have a worthless unit to cut up? Actually no. Had forgotten all about it until you joggled my memory. So far I've gone thru 3 pedal assy's and 2 cables. You got one assy. I repaired one and 1 is on the shelf. I replaced 1 cable and fabricated one. Anyway with the MJ stock diminishing and the XJ stock plentiful it seems obvious. Thanx for the pix. Let you know how it turns out. Jim

Has anybody swapped the XJ hand brake for a MJ foot brake? If so, is there a write up on it?

Anything over 350K I run straight 50W. No filter. I got tired of them plugging up all the time. Everything else, synthetic 10-30, MoPar filters. Picked up a carton of them at an auction a couple years ago. Trying to get them used up.

Congrats on the win. Would like to see you and your truck on one of our rock trails. -
The last couple days I been having trouble with my back and tiring out to easily. Just wondering if their might be any medic type people here that might have a clue as to what my problem might be. On a typical day I awake around 7. Have sex, get up and have a cup of coffee, split a half a cord of wood, go back in the house and have sex, then breakfast. Go work with the horses kills a hour or so, back in the house, have sex and another cup of Joe. Go work on a Jeep kills another hour. Back in the house, have sex and then lunch. Take a nap. Back outside and work around the shop trying to catch up on one of several projects. Carry wood into the house, water and feed the live stock and back to the house, have sex and then supper. Grab a JD and hit the puter. Knock out another chapter on a book I'm writing called "How to have wondrous experiences while enjoying the thrill of growing old." Found out the other day the GF has been putting saltpeter in my food. She mumbled something about needing rest, or a break, or something like that. Whatever. Anyway around 11 go to bed, have sex and go to sleep. My question is, do you think I'm drinking to much coffee? :dunno:

Anybody here besides me, thinking of a way to console Robs' widow in case he has a sudden demise?

Steering Box Brace - 4.0 Only?

Those are torque absorbers. They're used to keep the torky 2.8 from twisting the frame when a heavy foot puts the cobs to it. -

Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional. If you're going to spell old. olde, then do you have to spell fart, pharte? -

When you were welding on the winch, should have covered the cable. One weld splatter and instead of a 8,000 lb cable lt becomes a 7,000 lb. That said you do good work. And don't apologize for having fun. That's the whole idea of growing old,,,er,,I mean maturing. To have fun.
