I bought the 40 buxer amazon special XJ/MJ steering shaft a while back and it was actually aight...I later got a couple more for my K5s, an upgrade for these beasts :) Any who, carry on...

Verify the ignition/starter switch on the used column is good to go, maybe swap your original one into it and see if it resolves the issue...

I removed the shroud off mine when I went with the Taurus e-fan mod, if I find it, you can have it OP.

OP, ensure your rear drum shoes are adjusted correctly, there should be a little drag on the drums while spinning the rear wheels by hand. This should get your brakes in order if the circuits are fully bled.

'86 MJ no power above 35 mph

I concur that the v6 sux balls, especially the carburetor, but only when neglected. I recommend you ensure all the vacuum and emissions lines are properly routed in accordance with your decal. -
I have the complete vacuum system sitting in a box, lonely, collecting dust...if someone wants it, holler.

JK Poison Spyder Hood louver install
zomeizter replied to UpstateMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
These do help with the heat, got vents on the XJ but I started having issues with the TPS failing often. Found out the rain was soaking the sensors and destroying them, so I homebrewed a rain cover on the inside/underside of the vent and the problem went away. This may not apply to your setup, but if it does... -
Consider this: "The only difference between selec-trac and command-trac is that selec-trac offers full time 4wd mode. Full time 4wd allows you to run 4wd no matter what the road conditions. The only difference between part time and full time 4wd is that in full time the center diff/transfer case is "open" which allows the front driveshaft and the rear driveshaft to turn at different speeds, and in part time the transfer case is locked and the driveshafts turn at the same speed." Make sure the valves at the compressor (if equipped) are open by turning the square drives counterclockwise...

I installed adapters no problem but I have a "unicorn" 'manche...

Bypass your starter relay by bridging the two bigger terminals together, if it cranks, the relay is defective. If your truck is equipped with the big steel relay, upgrade to a Ford F150 starter relay...

I converted my manche to R134A a few years ago and replaced everything but the condenser and evap. I dropped that valve you pictured when I performed a thorough flush job and could not figure out how to put it back in the correct arrangement so I omitted it. A/C is ice cold without it, maybe I got lucky...

Looking at the video posted by OP, I would ensure that the throttle return spring is strong enough to get the valve closed, may just be a binding issue...

Browse the Crutchfield site for the head units with the features you want, I actually have one that meets all you mention, it's the Kenwood DMX1057XR. The unit is bad azz but pricey, but it's double DIN and in my JK. There are some nice ones that are single DIN with a large "pop-out" screen if this is your flavor. My recommendation when it comes to car stereos: stick with the good known brands and get the best one you can afford, buy once cry once...

So, on my 01 XJ, I noticed that the PO installed an older style e-fan and it had the small adapter harness. On a hot summer day in some significant traffic, the beast started to overheat. Once I made it home, I took a quick look and that harness had melted and caused an open circuit. Like you, I searched for a replacement but for the price, I just went ahead and got some good solder splices and eliminated the connector altogether. I recommend you do so but you know the downside of going that route...

An electrical schematic will tell you what's connected to your ignition coil... -

Factory fog light function
zomeizter replied to schardein's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
We are in the middle of a winter storm out here in the deep south and I had to go to the office this morning while the snow flakes started to really come down. I went ahead and turned the fog lamps on the suburban (2005) and put the headlamp switch on park lights position, I am able to run the fogs with park lights only. Once I returned home, I fired up the JK and turned the park lamps on and the fogs, no problem. I've always been under the impression that one could run fog lamps as long as the park lights are on, and this being standardized, but it sounds like this is not the case on some vehicles. Also, I once got pulled over by the popo at a small Texas town because I had my park lights and fogs on but no headlights on a rental JK. The officer informed me it was illegal to do so but no ticket was given. Properly mounted and aimed fog lamps can help the driver navigate in thick fog or when snowing hard or during heavy rain while on the road, they do so by helping to see the lane markers a little better than the headlamps do. But one can always end up in the ditch...because limitations :)
