  1. Plain badazz this here! Ima monstaline the MJ eventually as well and I totally agree that this ain't for everyone and wish people would quit bashing on others' choices... One of my XJs came monstalined already and I quickly realized that I love liner covered surfaces...monstaline the world! XD
  2. @Robert U2.8s are weak and failure prone engines which I would not recommend refurbishing. If a 4.0L swap is not feasible, then find you a 3.4L V6 to swap in instead. I still have a 2.8L in my MJ but only because I found a dirt cheap fully rebuilt one out of a wrecked Camaro. When I acquired my MJ it had a nasty rod knock and my intentions were to swap in a SBC V8 into it. I still plan on doing a V8 swap with an LS likely in the near future...
  3. Durango steering box is the upgrade IAW with the XJ club, but if the ZJ box improves things then why not...
  4. Yeah man, I always take stuff apart that can be taken apart and try to repair it before tossing in the recycle pile. Once in awhile, a little time and tinkering can save you some dough...
  5. Nicely done jeans! Just today I pulled my MightyVac out of hibernation to check some old choke pull-offs and the vacuum advance on my K5, damned thing wasn't working at all. Took it all apart, cleaned out all the crust and replaced and lubed all o-rings, damned thing sucks good again!
  6. Vacuum advance needs ported vacuum when acceleration occurs, the carburetor has this port to properly advance timing when the accelerator is depressed. If your vacuum routing diagram is still visible, you can find the correct port where the advance gets hooked up. But if you're going EFI, then that system will be controlling the ignition advance otherwise. My MJ is equipped with the 2.8L and the original 2SE Varajet carb with all those emission hoses and plumbing still there, I recently refreshed the carb with a rebuild kit and man does it run well, but it took some effort getting all the linkages properly adjusted, patience is a must here...
  7. Issue resolved I reckon...
  8. From the pics, I see that there is rotation of the lines that connect to the TXV, try installing the TXV to the new evap and see if you can manage to hook up the hoses to it coming out of the fire wall. I really looks like it would work from the view of the pics...
  9. Thank you for the awesome info gog, my MJ is still equipped with this valve and even though I have discs on the rear axle, it feels like it is working properly. The brakes on this truck work excellent with stock vacuum booster and F100 master cylinder.
  10. XJ wiper motor finally installed in the MJ, it was a PITA but well worth it...
  11. In need of a MT for my MJ, preferably the New Venture but will settle for an AX15. Willing to travel from north AL to surrounding areas...
  12. Try Rockauto.com, it's my go to besides Amazon and Ebay.
  13. If you have not bought the assembly with the electric fans, let me convince you to omit them. Buy the original fan shroud and clutch, upgrade to the ZJ clutch if desired and buy the electric cooling fan from a 97+ XJ. This setup will keep your 4 Liter cool and happy... If you go with the three fan setup, this should include all relays and harness to operate properly, all you would need to ensure is that you get a temp switch that turns the fans on at the temperature of your choice. The thermostat housing is a great spot to mount the temp switch.
  14. If your motor is on it's way out, upgrade to the late model XJ unit if replacing it is your plan...
  15. Solved. The installation of the universal tachometer signal converter fixed the RPM display error, tachometer is all good now...
  16. I went ahead and ordered a tach signal converter and will install it soon, I'll holler with the results...
  17. Any tachometer swap gurus know how to get the blue instrument cluster tach to read correctly? I swapped in a full gauge cluster into the MJ but I assume it came from a 4banger because I'm at 2000-2100 RPM at idle. I took the tach off the housing hoping there was a potentiometer to adjust but no dice, do I need a 6 cylinder tach circuit board for this to work? I see a couple of ICs soldered on the tach CB, maybe one of those needs swapped? Holler...
  18. Similar to ghet's situation, I just got done installing the ZJ Hayden fan clutch and a new VDO efan on my XJ and immediately noticed improvement. I'm currently in the southwest and my efan was constantly on while driving around in the mornings and evenings without using the air conditioner. After the fans' refresh, I have noticed that the efan hardly ever comes on now, the new clutch seems to be doing most of the cooling and it is not nearly as noisy as some claim.
  19. AW4 shift kit on your mind Pete? I am planning to do just that on the XJ...
  20. I recently had the issue you describe, the problem was the blower fuse got hot and the plastic melted and deformed causing the fan to work intermittently. I replaced the fuse and cleaned and tightened the fuse contacts on the fuse block, all is well now.
  21. One of the symptoms was that the transmission shifts were super late and overdrive would never engage. Cruise control was inoperative. Once I hooked up my OBDII code reader, there was a TPS voltage high fault so I proceeded to check it out with a meter since my reader is unable to show me live data off the PCM.
  22. Correct, but make sure both circuits are good first, 5v supply and solid ground.
