Trying to figure out what to do??
kro10000 replied to tallon2064's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Depends on the shape of the rest of the jeep, unless it is a complete rust bucket I'd put in a new/rebuilt/used engine. They don't cost a whole lot for our jeeps and swapping motors isnt all that difficult. Good opportunity to build a stroker? -
It never really bothers me, comedians for the last few years have been exploiting racism for comedy, because it is just socially shocking. IMHO a little humor in such a serious subject isn't a bad thing. He definitely isn't my favorite, but he doesn't strike me as racist. Other comedians that I can think of with racist humor: Dave Chappelle and Carlos Mencia

You threw me off there a minute, I thought for a second that you were going to use that 15 degree VW veesix lol.

Maybe not the best looking vehicles in the world, but I am all for it. If they do sell reasonably well there is always the chance that the company assimilates into the ChryCo/Fiat brand and some get built in the U.S. I would buy one in a heartbeat if funds were available. I wouldn't really call the Durango a crossover, not to say I like it at all or the idea of the Grand Waggy being a rebadged durango, but since the terms crossover and SUV are loosely used, I think an SUV has the engine mounted longitudinally, and a crossover with the engine mounted transverse. I don't think anyone calls the Mercedes ML a crossover and that shares the platform with the GC and durango.

Believe it when I see it

IMO glasspacks make it sound farty, I'd recommend a welded muffler. I've got a Flowmaster 40 series on mine (running 2.5 inch pipe and no cat) and love the burble at idle and the overrun. But some guys love the glass pack noise so I guess it is just preference. Although I wouldve gotten a Thrush glasspack because they are a perforated tube style instead of louvered which causes a lot of turbulence (restriction).

Paid $3.22 last night, might have to give up the MJ if it gets too bad :( since I'm a poor college student

Where do you go to school at? -
I used 9/16" 2.75 inner diameter u-bolts. I could not find any online so I went to a local spring shop (KC spring) and had some made. Took them all of 15 minutes and was about $45 bucks, which was more then I wanted to spend, but at that point I just wanted to do the d44 swap and get it 4x4 again.

Be careful with Purple Power, your paint might not like it so much. I'd use simple green, not only does it work really well, but it also smells like root beer. -
You might wanna reword that, I am completely confused

Awesome ride, my high school auto service teacher had a RWD Westfalia one in that style that he did a subie motor swap in, but he sold it and got an old Split window Westie that we worked on restoring my senior year. He also took his Westy to Alaska the summer before last, I've always wanted to make an adventure like that. With that bellhousing shifting back and forth you have guaranteed pilot bearing issues, and probably a cracked clutch disk hub. I'd definitely pull it before it explodes, or your input shaft bearing grenades.

I know I have had mine over 100 several times, but mine is only lifted about 1.5 inches, and on relatively wide tires. When I had my 5.2 dakota I got it to about 135 before I ran out of cajones. Fastest I have ever gone is a buck 75 in my buddies 9 second firebird  his speedo just wrapped up like a tach.

Well a lot of Pike houses have them, although most don't actually run. If I remember right ours was donated to us from the Louisburg KS. fire dept. We've had ours for a while but I was just elected Fire Chief since I am an auto tech major. Anyway it means I get to drive the truck and maintain it. Learning to double-cluch this thing was interesting, but I've got it down now. Oh yeah and the PTO pumps work and everything, I just have gotta get the siren working. 6v horn on a 12v system doesnt work so well, it might be fried but it makes a little noise now, so I might have to rebuild it cause its an antique.

That depends, a wrangler is many times worth less modified then if it is all stock. An old XJ or MJ is different since they aren't worth a whole lot to begin with. Really it is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it (obviously), meaning that I would post it up for what you think it is worth, and if you get interest from people then youve got the right price. Keep in mind that you will very rarely, if ever get as much as what you put into it.

Well its not technically mine, it's my fraternity's, but I'm in charge of it. this is the only pic I have, that is me, my fraternity brothers, and of course our firetruck That is a 1937 Ford firetruck. It was in service for 60 some years and has been restored many times. Now it sports a chevy 350 mated to the stock non synchro gearbox. Just figured I'd post it up cause it's friggen awesome

Wonder how he cools it? Or maybe its just run 1/4 mile at a time.

Maybe neither... You could use a different insulation, like dynapad, I think that is what its called, the foil covered adhesive backed stuff. It shouldnt absorb water like the OEM insulation. Of course I am cheap, so I'd use the adhesive backed stuff they sell at the home depot that everyone here keeps talking about.

Land rover might not have been the best choice. Be prepared for EVERYTHING to stop working or explode catastrophically. Auto service teacher in high school had one, and had nothing but problems. He eventually fixed it and sold it as far away as he possibly could.
