  1. Bosch Platinums don't live as long with CDI or HEI ignition. The old racers story is Champions are sold in boxes of 10 so you have a good chance of getting 8 good ones in a box. (I think that was more how the warehouse handled them and dropped so many things that caused it) If you have a ping issue, NGK BKR6EK plugs tend to fix it. (EGR is disconnected on mine with no ping) Plain old factory Autolites are good but not to fight ping.
  2. 2wd or 4wd? What's your planned use?
  3. Shouldn't be too bad, unless it's from a TJ or something except MJ or XJ. Count the teeth of the input! Renix is 21 spline and HO ('91 up) is 23 spline.
  4. Don't do 5th wheel if you plan on ANY rough terrain! Go gooseneck instead.
  5. Here's a fun search www.ebay.com/sch/Complete-Engines-/33615/i.html?_nkw=diesel
  6. The aftermarket rear bumper mounts go on the sides and not the bottom. Mine is rated at 3500 lbs and I bought a HF bolt on hitch insert that bolts to it (haven't put it on yet) With some extra steel added, it should be pretty strong
  7. wonder if he was washed away in that flood?
  8. Here's a great feebay search for you http://www.ebay.com/sch/Complete-Engines-/33615/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=diesel&saveon=2
  9. tends to shear the tcase off when you hit a big potthole or speed bump.
  10. ... The Volvo setup requires a bellhousing from a Volvo with AW4 (I think they started in '91 but I lost all my notes when my D'Hell computer kicked the bucket) The diesel engine is more commonly found in boats than Volvo autos. I am not sure if the gas motor has the same bell pattern. Volvo didn't use an AX-15 trans as far as I know. Good info to be sure - thanks heaps. I am in boat country down here, but the salt water wreaks havoc on marine applications, so I fear it may be hard locally to find such an engine. (I will ask around though.) Any ideas where to source an AW4 bellhousing for that Volvo diesel? . How about some of those other engines you mentioned, I wonder? The AW in AW4 stands for "Aisin (Aishin) Warner", and I know Aisin supplies a LOT of stuff to the Japanese car industry. Any idea if any of the other diesels you mentioned had an AW4 or AX15 pairing? And if they were available in the USA? . My interest in this is starting to heat up, as I have a couple leads on Comanches with blown engines that look to be available locally. To my thinking, blown engine = perfect time for a swap... Toyota diesels used an AX trans that the bell "should" swap with the AX-15, but it may be the AX-5 as well as AW3 trans (3 speed auto) Imported ones have been known to have the AW4 on them. I prefer the non-computer controlled version, but the 2LT has a long track record (that's what's in the Hilux Top Gear tried to kill) http://www.ebay.com/itm/JDM-TOYOTA-2L-TE-2-4L-Turbo-Diesel-4WD-Auto-2LTE-Hilux-Surf-2LT-4Runner-Tacoma-/181231471527?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a323ccba7&vxp=mtr
  11. 77 trucks just from WA state alone made it, but since i495 was closed down, side streets became ugly. The Vets were also there protesting and getting arrested. http://foxnewsinsider.com/2013/10/14/exclusive-video-vet-protesters-remove-barricades-dc-memorials how about those missing nukes and 9 fired nuke commanders? http://gopthedailydose.com/2013/10/14/michael-savage-missing-nukes-purging-commanders-whacking-people/
  12. I have clocks, but none with the right connector for my '87!
  13. I have a chrome front bumper in my for sale pile.
  14. Someone stole BOTH of the gauge sets I had with the prndl setup this past summer. I pulled the needle and faceplate off the '73 J4000 column and I will be mounting it on my column.
  15. This is the thing: Jeep gauges always have been for amusement only. Any resemblance between them and reality is purely coincidental and sure to get you in trouble if you always believe them.
  16. No, but up by the battery is a single connector wire that unplugs and you put the jumper button to there (need at least 30 amp switch)
  17. 2 core is enough for an 0.060 bored stroker in the Mohave desert while towing a trailer as long as you add Redline Water Wetter.
  18. Pass on the Renault. You can find them all over the RV section in Winnebago Le Sharos with a broken bellhousing where the starter USED to sit. Major weak point. I'd take a 4.3 over it and run a 200R4 BOP trans with either 2wd or divorced tcase. There are a few shops that sell motor/trans combos from Japan and elsewhere posted on CL and evilbay. Latest one I was checking out (for a full size Jeep) is an Isuzu 4BD1T but only IF the bell pattern fit the later Aisan Warner trans. As in AW4's big brother. The Jatco trans is okay, but has no O/D or 4x4 available AFAIK (although Datsun used them). The later motors are known for tossing rods (not a good design)
  19. It's sad that the "law" is just going to result in higher costs for everyone from the insurance companies, which is why they aren't screaming. Instead they are just salivating at the thought of collecting from EVERY American. The only thing that was really needed was either 1 payer system (like in Canada, but keep the #$^%@#&* bean counters out of it! They pocket $100,000+ a year to tell people they can't have a $5,000 surgery. Where is the "savings?") or pass a law that forbids them denying coverage for "preexisting conditions" that caused the mess in the first place.
  20. . Still interested in hearing more about that potential Volvo diesel swap - the one that will mate to an AW4. AAre they not available from an automotive application? And if it mates to an AW4 bellhousing, would it not mate to an AX15 as well? Sounds like it might be a relatively easy way to go compared to having to get an adapter plate and associated custom machine work/trouble with flywheels and additional risk of failure from bolt-on cobbled-together rotating parts. Deviating as little as possible from factory engineering is highly desirable in my book - that leaves leeway when you do have to make modifications (there will always be unforeseen things that pop up that will require mods, you can be sure of that...). . Anyone have any details to share? Carnuck, I am looking to you in particular - seems you have spent some thought on this and know of a number of options worth a closer look. I am not familiar with any of them, so don't be shy about elaborating, please! 22. Wranglers had a different configuration
  23. 4 cyl is AX4 or AX5 and can withstand the GL5 for awhile (gets harder to shift as it goes along). 6 cyl is BA 10/5 and must take the earlier fluid (Peugeot spec for the same trans is 30W synthetic motor oil and they designed it). The factory clutch master cap said Castrol GTLMA only. The other non-synthetic brake fluids absorb water and destroy the real rubber seals. If someone made a neoprene rubber set for them, so many wouldn't go bad after just a year of use from new.
