  1. I believe you once told me "and so it begins", did you ever think you would have so much time and money invested in your pickup? I already have a few rock chips in my paint and I have decided to not worry about it. I live six miles out in the country so I drive gravel roads daily. It gets driven more than my new Colorado. I have had a lot of compliments about the paint job simply because it turned out decent and I did it myself. It's a good feeling. It looks like you are doing a great job, can't wait to see the final product.
  2. Did you decide to do it yourself?
  3. You can buy seam sealer for where the rocker meets the cab corner. I dug out all I could and re-did every seam I could. Mine wasn't cracked below the back window like yours. That might be tricky to make look good.
  4. I didn't even try. I figured it was just as fast and cheap to take care of it myself.
  5. Wow, I can't believe someone is more expensive than Novak. I looked at them on Ebay and the Flex a lites look to be nice. I would guess they would both be good, or should be for the money.
  6. That thing is going to be sweet when you get it done. Better get some WD40 started on the bed bolts now. Mine were frozen in good. While I had the bed off I took out every bolt I could in the suspension and used anti-seize on them. Might come in handy in the future.
  7. Sanding around the door hinges and in the door area takes forever. Looks real good. I can't wait to see the finished product. It's kinda scary tackling a paint job but it's actually not that bad. I could have saved a quart of paint if the damn bugs didn't love paint.
  8. Exactly what I said about the budget. Tack on many thousands more. I swear everything possible was worn out-no idea how the previous owner even drove it. I am anxious to see your truck finished, kudos to you sir.
  9. Minuit is right. I replaced every piece of rubber in and around my doors. You really have to pay attention to the fitment of the triangle window to the front of the door. The thin rubber wants to fold over and catch on everything. I lubricated the rubber and the metal with soapy water and it really helped. I took mine in and out several times till I got it right.
  10. I seen this truck this weekend and when it is done it will be a beast. Oh, and those sliders are a work of art. Good job, Crusty. I will be ordering a hitch pretty soon.
  11. That's a tough one to answer. I think I went old school because I live in the middle of nowhere and it would be easier to do the Gen1 small block. I also had never done a complete vehicle and I thought it would be easier and cheaper. I wouldn't be afraid to do an LS now, though. Being 2wd it would be easier than yours since you are 4wd. I have given some thought to doing an LS Cherokee but it will have to wait for awhile. With all the aftermarket help it isn't all that bad. I had to make a transmission mount to mate the trans and cross member and the wiring was a bit of a headache but other than that it was pretty simple. If you look back at the beginning of my thread you will see what a rats nest the wiring was. The engine was blown and the guys I bought it from had unhooked a bunch of stuff and I had to figure out what went where. Then going through the harness and getting rid of all the wires not needed was a learning experience. I drove it to Wichita this weekend to my sons and delivered some parts to Digitalbman and she performed like a dream. I guess I would say to you to do what you want. You are the one paying for it and driving it. Fuel injection would be nice, though.
  12. Dang, we all wish we would have had such a good starting point. Looking forward to more.
  13. I had the sub boxes already on hand and I thought it would be easier to do it this way than build a custom box. I actually built a couple custom sub boxes years ago for a Nissan pickup that fit in the holes for the jump seats. Turned out really nice but it was a LOT of work. I made wooden boxes and covered them in fiberglass. When I sold the pickup that seemed to be a selling point. Of course, a younger guy bought it.
  14. That thing is clean!
  15. Looks like you have a good base to start with. Have fun!
  16. Congrats. Well deserved
  17. Sounds pretty good!
  18. Nice. Hey, my nephew is also there at McConnel. Tyler N is his name. My son says he parks by you all the time. Bryan T is his name. They are both Tech Sergeants.
  19. I got the back wall carpeted. Turned out real good. Made a shelf for the subs to sit on but still need to carpet it. Just sat the speakers in to make sure everything clears and it does-by a finger width. Still need to hook up the wires but I think I will be on 12's the rest of the week and Saturday so not going to get much done.
