  1. That's good to know
  2. I should have a spare d30/d35 combo with 3.55s soon If you don't want to regear yet I would fix the axle you have,if you buy an upgraded axle with 3.07s your gonna have to regear it later which will cost a lot more then if you just bought an axle of a better ratio in the first place.
  3. Good to hear you found it
  4. I've seen several V8 grand cherokees converted to D35s,I know one guy who wheels his with 35" tires. A D44 would be better but I see no reason why a d35 won't hold a small v8 in a street application, really your not talking about much more power then a 4.0L HO which came hooked to a D35
  5. That's true, there's plenty of d35s running behind v8s. But he has an AMC theme to his build and the 20 is part of that.
  6. So I guess you found someone to take that chevy truck off your hands,I bet that firebirds fun. My brother had a 97 T/A WS6 it was fun to drive, that LT1 can put down some power.
  7. The track bar causes the axle to move side to side as the suspension travels,if your steer link doesn't match the movement of the track bar your steering wheel will jerk side to side(bump steer) as your suspension moves. The two links must be parallel so they will move the same, this is where various length pitman arms come into play. They allow you to move the steer link up or down to match the track bar.
  8. Max torque rating 1486lbs 242 std 2028lbs 242hd 2340lbs 242amg/hummer 1885lbs 231std 1940lbs 231hd 5555lbs 241 Most aftermarket 231s seem to be using 241 guts in a 231 case,I couldn't find a rating but I'm sure its much higher then the hummer 242 since every part used in the conversion is bigger then the hummer 242. Also you can go 4.1:1 with the 231,I didn't see anything other then 2.72:1 for the 242
  9. Flux core sucks on sheet metal
  10. If he owns a shop why doesn't he get the parts? He should already have vendors for that stuff and can get discounts.
  11. You can build a 242 to be stronger than any 231 ever dreamed of being. What transfer case do you think is used in the military HUMVEE? (Hint -- it has the numbers 2, 4 and 2 in it.) Then why is it that you can order just about anything you can dream up for the 231 but there is almost nothing available for the 242? If you can make it so much stronger where do you get the parts and why does nobody build them?
  12. I could still burn the tires when I had 31s, the 2.5l pulled them around pretty good.
  13. Any of them should be fine. Who's gonna rebuild the transmission?
  14. Manifold design can greatly affect the way your engine delivers power, If you already gutted the cat and added a high flow muffler the manifold is the only thing creating backpressure removing the backpressure could move up the powerband and hurt torque. The truck might feel faster due to the increase in top end but in a 4X4 your after low end grunt.
  15. Sounds like a bad connection at the battery
  16. The 231 is barely stronger then the 242. The difference is you can build the 231 to be much stronger and you can get a much better crawl ratio out of it. For most people either case is gonna work fine,if you were building a dedicated offroad rig I would go with the 231.
  17. Why do you want a header? You would probably get better low end torque with the factory manifold.
  18. You could budget boost your truck and get 30s or 31s Here's mine when it was stock with 31x10.50s
  19. Looks about perfect for an LPG conversion
  20. Well you need to either swap the entire front end or just buy 97+ parts for yours. Unless you just don't like the newer front I would leave it alone.
  21. I bet you could find someone that would trade you front ends if you don't like the 97+ stuff.
  22. If your gonna ask questions you need to give enough information for somebody to answer correctly. Yes cherokee and comanche fenders interchange, but if IIRC you have a 97+ conversion so only 97+ cherokee fenders will fit it.
  23. I've seen a few cars done that way, they can turn out nice if done right.
  24. 4.6L/5.0L Mustangs, Crown Vics, and a few other models. Your best bet is to get the ones from precision injector off Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Set-6-UP ... 836wt_1026 There's other vendors on there selling remans and lots of used ones
