If we could only be so lucky. I wish they would stop dancing around it and do it. I want to see a Jeep car that could take on a Subaru WRX... That kind of style. AWD, have a sedan and a wagon, small mill with some power behind it, with some style. Rob

Pay attention next time you are on there... They put a little icon next to the parts you are looking at if it ships from the same location as parts already in your cart. I think it is a little box truck if I remember right. Rob

There is an inner door skin support that those mirrors also need to be installed properly also. Rob

Was it a tire only shop? I mean, I'd have been all over that for upsell and more money in my pocket if I was still at the dealer. Only thing I can think of is that it was a tire only kinda place that doesn't do that sort of work and just wanted the money for the tires, knowing that you would wait if additional work was required... It's super rare for any mechanic to look work in the eye and say no on the clock. Rob

A couple just popped up on CL in Chicago... I think one is a rust free '89 4.0L 5 speed 4x4... Rob

Would I be the only one that just isn't impressed with Corvettes? They just don't do anything for me. I can recollect very few that I stopped to inspect in my car shows and outings. Maybe one or two stand out. Rob

Ebay. I picked up a whole engine seal kit from Hamburg Germany. Rob

Crown Auto Cupholder!!
Automan2164 replied to 1989 Eliminator's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
The OEM cupholder that goes up by the console lid is too shallow to hold anything during a turn or bumps. They did offer another style that snaps under the black trim and hangs into the passenger side. Nice and deep, holds drinks perfectly. Picked mine out of the JY for $5 IIRC. You can still get them new from the dealer. -
That has to be a member here... Rob

Key in run position, charger on the battery. I doubt you would have any adverse affects other than maybe a check gauges or CEL while the engine was off. Rob :dunno:

The worlds Fastest Comanche
Automan2164 replied to Worlds Fastest Comanche's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Peter's son Scott is the current caretaker of the truck, just thought I would post up that he had been posing pics of him working on it, and today he posted a video of it running after all the work. Rob :brows: -
http://rockford.craigslist.org/cto/4260178096.html Sounds like you are on a tight budget, could be a nice entry MJ for you if you want to get your hands dirty. Been on CL for awhile and relisted a few times, may be worth a call and low ball. Rob

ComancheHungry, what town are you in? Rob

I could grab a set from a JY XJ if needed. Let me know. Rob

I think the MJ looks good the way it is. Find another XJ for a wheeler/lifted rig. That MJ looks like a nice, clean, fun driver. Welcome to the fold. Rob

Need Help With 97 4.0, Very Strange Problem
Automan2164 replied to Jeep Driver's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm coming in here late as have just read this post for the first time, but as you were describing it in the first few posts I kept thinking battery connections or battery... Having operation until the large draw of the starter was a red flag for me. Glad you figured it out. Rob  -
The original yahoo group was more of a mass email kind of thing than anything. It could get confusing, especially when we were pushing 800-900 posts a month... Rob

The original CC started as the Yahoo groups page, Jeepcomanche. It still exists... You can see the high point in the postings and then it trail off as the new page was started. https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/jeepcomanche/info Aslith was the one who started the JeepComanche yahoo group, and passed the torch on to Pete. How did you find this!? Rob
-
IIRC, it was low. All the pics are still up on facebook, some of the links here have died. You can't really trust the odo though, because I believe the truck started life as an emissions test mule or similar before it was taken and turned into the Chief. Rob

H4 Conversion... Ipf, Hella, Cibie?
Automan2164 replied to Automan2164's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Time to update this thread. Ended up going Hella H4. Got the bulbs and everything earlier this month in the middle of a cold snap, and I mean -15 without windchill cold snap. Excuse the frost on the lenses, I had just brought them in. I had planned to do a full redeux of the lighting system back to coup-stock, by plugging in the original harness and letting the stock system drag it down, but it was just too darn cold out. I ended up just doing all the comparisons with the Putco Harness in place. The bulbs to start with really woke up with the harness, like pure white compared to dusty yellow. The sealed beams were higher quality Sylvania from a previous owner. Stock, Putco Harness: Hella H4 housing and lamp that came with on left, sealed beam on right... Low beams. You can see the flare of the E-codes to the right to highlight signs yet not be obtrusive to oncoming traffic.: Same with high beams: Both converted, low beams.: Both converted, high beams.: Impressions after driving with them for a few weeks... I like them, a lot. I think it would have been more "Oh my unholy god" if I had done everything at once. I think, nay, know, that the number one thing someone can do is upgrade that stupid stock harness to a relay based design. Whether it be Putco, ARB, Daniel Stern, IPF... Just do it. It woke up the stock lights. I think the beam pattern was what it was all about with the Hella bulbs. I would compare the cutoff on these to those of a projection beam. I had projections on my '05 Yamaha R6, and if you were to just sit in the XJ without knowing, you'd swear they were projection beam also. I have them aimed just right so that they cut the trunk/tails of most smaller cars in half. Just high enough without the actual intensity of the beam in anyone's face. As far ahead as I look when I drive, I wish I could point them maybe a tad higher, or maybe upgrade the lamp when the time comes for that extra distance. The high beams... Forget about it... The pattern is unreal. I wish I could drive around with them on all the time, but I couldn't even imagine being an oncoming driver. I will say though that after poking around on the internet, I kind of wish I would have pulled the trigger on the TruckLite LED's... Pricey, but you don't have to upgrade the harness, and the pics of the light they cast out is incredible. Rob -
If I had the time, I would have made my own. It's really not all that complicated. I used the Putco Harness because it is stupid cheap, and the only real thing I heard from anyone was that the relays are cheaply made and the headlight connectors may melt if you use too much of a bulb... The $20 was almost a non issue. The forums told me I can get quality relays to replace the cheap ones out of a Honda or Toyota in the junkyard, and if I ever melt a connector, I can just cut off the plastic one and replace it with a ceramic job. I don't plan on running ungodly wattage bulbs though, so I don't see that happening. Putco and forget it. Rob
