B-pillar light alternative...
Automan2164 replied to JeffK's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for thinking about us Joe. Its good to know we can still get the lights, and help out an american company. But, I have a question... Could you look into purchasing the tooling for our tail lights? You could make a decent amount of sales if we had an aftermarket alternative. A short while ago our used tail lights were fetching $350 a set on ebay in good condition. They have dropped in price recently, but imagine the draw for them. That would be awesome if you could look into that. Thanks, Rob L. -

Coming from someone who maintains squad cars and upfits emergency vehicles, that thing will be a power sucker. Make sure you run some big cable for that thing. A friend installed one of that vintage, and he ended up only running the outer 2 rotators because of the amperage draw. Looks cool though. Might want to rethink the mount its on. Under decent speed they make a decent amount of wind noise. Dropping it closer to the cab will reduce the profile. Rob L.

Pull a line off of the gearbox, and let it drain... There is no drain plug. Rob L.

How's september looking for a MNG? I would really like to have a chance to get everyone together... Maybe pushing it back until the busy times of summer are over might be best. Rob L.

Def wall art. Pick up a transformer to put out 12V, and wire up the lights. Maybe put some 110 lamp bulbs in the headlight housings... Cool though. Rob L. :D

I fixed it for you. Camaro the white-trash Ferrari When I went to tech school, we had "Hot rod U". Basically, it was a huge shop full of cars to play with... Ricers, small domestics, and in the fleet, one 3rd gen Z-28 Camaro, fully decked out. Guess which one my group picked... :brows: The Z. We did some head work, aftermarket throttle body, and some exhaust... But the best part was that for every dyno run, you had to dawn the mullet wig hanging from the rear view mirror. :clapping: Rob L.

Didn't even have to go upstairs. I'll even throw in the bumper. Matt, its free if you want it. Come 'n' git it. Sorry Wilson, I looked around... Only have one... Rob L.

You need a torque wrench on main caps. It's crucial. Autozone and them don't lend torque wrenches because its more of a precision tool. Doing it without one could do major permanent damage to your engine. And don't use anything besides a brass drift or punch. If you use steel, you can nick or mar the surfaces of the crank journal, and have a bad situation. The rear main is not something you can half @$$. Rob L.
-
The rear main can go either way. For some its easy, for others its a royal pain. I would have a brass drift or punch at hand, and a mallot or deadblow... You're also going to need a torque wrench to put your main cap back on and torqued to spec. For getting the pan out, take loose the sway bar and the upper shock mounts, and that should net you the extra droop you need out of the axle to slide it out. Just be careful not to overextend the brake lines. Rob L.

'74(ish) VW Dune Buggy Build
Automan2164 replied to neohic's topic in Member Projects: Other Cool Stuff
I do it all the time. No biggie in Il. Normally, when I buy a vehicle, I tell the seller to sign, but not date it. I never know if I am going to keep it, or flip it. Longest I have gone is a year or two on a dated title. Turned it in, the people at the dmv didn't bat an eye. If I keep it, ill date and sign it when I transfer, if I flip it, I just tell the new owner to do the same. Besides, what's the worst that can happen, they say no? Rob L. -
And to think you almost sold it. If you were close enough to me you would have... I'd have bought that in a second. Glad you still have it. Rob L.

Put that drivetrain into the MJ. Then put something HUGE into the wagon. In tech school, we had an instructor who loved big sleeper cars. After wrecking his caprice, he found a wagon just like yours... Put a 454 in it, and supercharged it on top of that... Nothing gave it away except for a custom pillar gauge pod, and the whine of the charger, easily mistaken for a bad power steering pump. Before I graduated, that thing was putting down something in the 500-600 HP at the wheels. Awesome. Rob L.
