88' Comanche SWB 4x4 FS in NE Pa
Kerry replied to Twysted696's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I wonder how much that rear bumper weighs? -
If and when you replace the weatherstrip or deal between the body and the door use one for a 97 -01 Cherokee. They are an exact fit but are thicker. I had air leaks (but no daylight) around the door on my XJ that went away after installing a junkyard fresh seal. It now takes a firm push to shut the door which could be adjusted out but I kind of like it that way. You can also open the door, roll down the window and open vent wing, put your knee against the inside panel, and pull the top of the door towards you as hard as needed. I did that before replacing the seal which made my daylight gaps turn in to air gaps. The XJ is an 87.

Team Cherokee sells those clips at a very reasonable price.

There were a few different versions of dash clocks through the years. They all can be made to work but the correct one will plug in to the wiring connector in your dash that should already be there. There's a good write about it somewhere (gojeep.com?) with lots of pictures. I'll look and see if I have one and if so will take $15 shipping included.

Mine only leak when at a car wash so I just stick a quarter, nickel, whatever behind the latch until after I'm done.

The info on the design change is good to know, the pictures make it even better. I wonder how many other changes didn't get documented during the AMC to Chrysler transition years and is there a thread on this or other forums that might list others?

The WJ has a much better ride,is quieter, and has more room for both people and cargo than the XJ or ZJ. My wife drives one and averages around 18 mpg in the city and 21 mpg highway (6cyl/2wd). I would avoid the V-8 WJs,the 4.7's had reliability problems and were difficult to work on. I have not owned any of the newer models so I can't compare to them but the Grand Cherokee continues to sell so they gotta be doing something right.

My dad had a S10 Chevy that had an electric heating element in the gasket,it was an 83 or 84.

I have seven 5.9s now. They are excellent at almost everything except gas mileage (11.5 mpg city) and a they are a bargain today. They are generally in better shape and have lower miles than the average used ZJ. These were $40k when new so most weren't used as the family truckster. If you're looking more for comfort and ride a WJ is a better choice and use a lot less gas. Avoid the V8 WJs at all cost,Craigslist and the yards around here are littered with V8 WJs with engine problems.

That seller does have good stuff. I bought a set of XJ Cordovan seat covers from him that look new, I'm still kicking myself for not getting the door panels too. In this case the price was worth it. He sells other parts too and is worth checking out.

http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/pts/4871123346.html Here's another you might try . I can ship for you if he won't. I've been looking out for a good one in the yards since you asked me a while back without success. There was one really nice "passenger" seat in a RHD XJ but it wasn't the right color. Good luck!

http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/pts/4861551418.html His ad says no tears in seats but the pic shows what does look like a small one, not too bad overall. If he's unwilling to remove the cover and/or ship PM me.

Bilstein shocks came standard on ZJs with the Up Country package in the 90's. They are usually blue with a black boot and are easy to spot because they mount "upside down". The fronts are a direct bolt in but I'm not sure about the rear ones. I've bought a couple of sets and used them on regular ZJs and prefer them over the Edelbrock Performers I have on my other ZJ. The front coils may also work well on an MJ and should give around 1" - 2" of lift and along with a firmer ride.

Rough Country Long Arm Install
Kerry replied to joester1908's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
RC had problems with the poly "fixed" joint (axle side} on their long and short arms. They redesigned them to use factory style rubber bushings and also redesigned their flexible joints making the tension on the bushing adjustable. I'm currently installing their LA kits on both an XJ and a ZJ but haven't driven either one yet. RC seems to be kind of hit or miss on their products. I had a set of their 3" leafs and gas shocks on my XJ before and they rode great, but the leafs that came with the XJ long arm (4" & 6.5" short arm kits also) were too short causing the shackle angle to be all wrong. They sell a shackle relocation kit seperately which fixed the shackle angle but added another inch or so of unwanted lift. I ended up replacing them with a set from Rustys. Overall though, in my opinion, they make a quality product for the price and their customer service is great. I found it's better to call them for help rather than emailing. -
Sent you a PM but I'm not sure it went through. Anyway, I have a set if you're still looking.

The 90 and earlier are different parts including the header panel itself. The 87 and earlier grilles had ten slats(?) instead of eight but they do interchange, at least up through 90. I'm not sure if the 91 and up grills will.

I'll sell you the whole setup minus rotors for $120 shipped. This will be the brackets, dust shields, calipers, pads, hardware, and rubber brake lines. Also includes the parking brake shoes, hardware, and cables. All are in good usable condition but I recommend new pads and rubber lines minimum for safety (and liability) reasons. You'll need rotors, longer bolts for the brackets longer wheel studs. I may have a ZJ proportioning valve too for another $5 if you want it. If I'm leaving anything out let me know. Text or call me for pictures. I'll seperate if you only want the brackets. Kerry 817 716-8833

The plate does fit. I'm not too sure about Chrfysler but AMC parts in general are very interchangeable compared to the big three. AMC had to do it for economic reasons and people who own and restore AMCs today benefit from it. Anyway if your 1st deal falls through I have a red one and a maroon one if you're interested and inserts for AW-4 and 242 or 231 tcases.

Sure the 12.1 wasn't the time spent masking the engine compartment before painting? Only kidding, very nice looking truck.

Clicking Sound In Dash And A/c Compressor Cycling
Kerry replied to 87MJJeep's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That seems a little excessive. The AC clutch relay is actually under the hood next to the right side shock tower. Underneath the plastic cover (if the cover's still there) is a row of relays and the AC clutch relay is the one nearest the cab. It is energized by the ECU when it sees an "AC Request" signal which is based on the AC controls being on and the thermostat calling for cooling. The thermostat is located under the dash in the passenger side area. The low pressure switch which is located on the drier (can looking thing) under the compressor will also stop the "AC Request" signal by breaking power before the thermostat. The low pressure switch is mostly a safety to prevent your compressor from running without freon but it will also open if the stat is stuck on or bypassed because low temp equals low pressure. If there's any warranty left from your compressor replacement I'd let them take a look but if not and you have a multimeter PM me and I can email you a wiring diagram. Also the info above is based on a 4.0 Renix but all should be similar. -
Clicking Sound In Dash And A/c Compressor Cycling
Kerry replied to 87MJJeep's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you're getting 40-45 deg air then you're charge probably isn't low. The AC does come on with the defrost and it most likely is the relay you're hearing. It's normal for the compressor to cycle some and it will do it more often in cooler weather. How often on the average is it cycling (count an off and on as one cycle not two)? -
I'm new to the MJ world but the XJs came with about a dozen different seats. There's a chart in one of the Cherokee catalogs, QuadratecI think.
