Take the castlenut off. replace with a regular nut and run it down to the level of the stud. Smack the piss out of it with a 3lb fist maul or hammer. it should unseat and the threads should still be ok. most important is to have the sacrificial nut perfectly flat with the top of the stud.

Steve is a great guy. I have guided with him up in that area for a few years. He is MR. Jeep up there. I have seen him do trail recovery's with a couple ratchet straps and a few downed trees. He is a great guy to know just to pick his brain every once in a while.

beefing up dana 30...how to
tjbliley replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Best way to beef up a Dana 30 is to buy a Dana 44, replace the 30 with it and use the 30 to make a welding table after you melt it down. -
Sounds like it could have been from the column shift type. My 88MJ is a column shift. Also has AW4.

Its not the kickdown cable is it. attaches to the throttle body to downshift at full throttle.

:needpics: Somebody had to say it. The cars and her.

You need to go to the aftermarket. Drilled and slotted. Also need to look at the calipers and pads to see if you can find something like dual pistons, and ceramic pads to help with the heat. Or you could just turn them and deal with it. Summit is where I have found the most options for brakes.

It would just look exactly like that but with 7 slots in the grill.

You need to get a different length rod for the bracket. you can use the shifter and linkage you already have its just got to have a different rod. The TJ stuff is absolutely different. You need XJ stuff and that will be junkyard stuff. I know its not an easy pill to swallow but it will bolt together if you get the bracket and rod. Ole Rube doesn't have anything on a Jeep engineer.

differences in trackbars between engine options?
tjbliley replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes it should fit up to 90. -
I know the guy who owns the long one. Those Pics were at Camp Jeep I think. I can get more info on the truck if you guys want. He has a few XJ's and MJ's in his collection from what I remember. He is a great mechanic. He also has an older Tug that has a deisel in it. not sure if it is from an isuzu or a jeep deisel but it has torque out the whazoo. If I find more pics I will let you know.

Plus the towing capacity on the 2WD is higher from the factory.

The knuckles need to stay at the angle they are at ccurrently. the axle tubes need to be turned up to the t-case. this is a big undertaking. it means rebuilding the entire axle. if you just turn the knuckles then the alignment will be off like a grocery cart with a loose wheel.

check the o-ring on the pump/sending unit. you can still get them from a parts store. Mine did the sdame thing and I just had to re-install it with a new o-ring.

Since it is a TBI it has only one injector. I found that the connector going to the injector was a fault. I am going to replace it when I can get my hands on one. For now I have it running.
-
Well, I was driving to work yesterday and as I pull into the Micky D's to get somethign to eat my MJ dies(88 2.5l TBI). I am frustrated now cause I was a little late but hungry. I try the couple of quick things like checking the cps to make sure its still there and checkign the coil. I have to call my wife so I can get her to pick me up and drive my wrangler to work. I am on the way home and call a buddy who then gets 8 of his buddies to help me get it home(they brought a trailer and truck). I could not bring myself to touch it last night for fear I would rip something out of it whe I could not figure it out. This morning after some rest and breakfast, I go out there and begin my diagnostics. Try the starter fluid cause it was cranking. Spray some in and low and behold it runs. Attach the fuel pressure gauge and it has 14 lbs. I know it has to be something to do with the injector firing or the Throttle body itself not letting gas to the injector. Check the injector and ihas gas to it. Check the plug and it has a loose connector right where the injector connects. So now I am off to the junkyard to get new(to-me) plugs and a new injector just incase.

what intake did you use. Isn't the 88 a wet manifold and the 95 a dry. Could this block some passages in the head causing the overheating? I am just guessing.
