Been hunting some proper bump stops. Here's some from (L-R) Xterra, newer Rodeo, Nissan truck (hard as a rock), older Rodeo and what's left of a stock XJ bump stop. The Rodeo bump stops are about the right size for a stock or mild MJ/XJ and they'll bolt in too. But I think I'm gonna use the taller Xterra stops and just weld em on. Bolt holes match up... My laptop is down again, I'll try to square away these pics when I get it up again. -

Power steering swap
Comanche County replied to ownedueasy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yup, I just converted a manual 87' 2.5L TBI MJ to power steering. My donor was a 95/96' 2.5L XJ from the JY. I tried using a 4.0 renix PS set up, it can be made to work but it will interfere with the airbox...if you ditched the airbox and used a cone type air filter I imagine it would work okay. You won't need the steering shaft. The boxes are the same length. Get the pitman arm. The manual pitman arm will not fit the PS box...its too small. -

Got the lift on. Its a little low in the front I think. The front coils seam a bit worn out. We'll see how it looks after I get the front end put back together. But I really like the rear springs so far. They're Pro Comps #53111 with overload leafs. I think it'll ride nice though...seeing how its got shocks that are more expensive than the Jeep  But I only paid something like $26 for em... . I'm on the hunt for some cheap 31"s or 32"s. Needs brakes! I've got some new Chevy front hoses and I'll use a 78' F250 rear hose, its stupid long. I did the ole' BPE elim with the rear sway brackets but I don't like how it rotates the upper bushing 90 degrees. It causes a little bit of binding when the shock tries to pivot, so I cut some small wedges out of the brackets to match the curvature of the underside then welded them up to the bottom of the Jeep. If I was using cheaper shocks I probably wouldn't have cared. -
Probably looking to swap a newer chevy/buick v6 into it.

Yeah I need to start wandering the import sections more often.

Will do! -
Has anyone used these? Thinking about purchasing a set and $89 isn't too bad a price IMO. http://www.amazon.com/1984-96-Cherokee-Wagoneer-Comanche-Front/dp/B004GAX2G4

I could use an MJ sized tool box for my little blue truck.... :brows:

Had to weld up the bumper brackets. The factory spot welds weren't very good so I welded up all the seams. Let the paint dry and worked on the rear springs. -
The front bumper has me at a loss...what is it from? Fits well.

Got the passenger side patched up...The paint is actually black, just looks blue. Cleaning some carpet for it.... -
Yeah could've been one of those supercharged carbs, didn't resemble an AFB/Eddy style carb at all.

I've been grabbing odd or unique carburetors off of old cars I see in the JY lately. Practically every car in the yards now are injected and for some reason I guess I get nostalgic tinkering with em or just looking at em in my garage (among all my other junk). I've got a Carter WE from a 50' Studebaker Champion, A carter WO, some kind of Weber carb (I believe) from a 60ish VW Type 3 fastback, a slant 6 carb, a couple of autolites, a couple of BBDs, a 4350 from a 76' Lincoln. I have no need for em, got most of em on a %50 off weekend. Wish I still had the Autolite 4100 that came on my 65' mustang, I was 18 and tossed it for a dumb @$$ Holley. Anyway, these Studebakers showed up a week or two ago, I wanted to grab all the carbs especially the one off the Silver Hawk (??) in the foreground, it had an odd looking 4bbl. But today I looked again, and someone has pulled the engines out of the first three cars. Only one left now. I might go back and get it. I know it doesn't make sense to have a bunch of random car parts that will most likely never get used again but I figure if my kids ever really tick me off I'll leave my life insurance to charity and the kids can just have my carburetor collection. :brows:

I actually ran outta time to get the seats so I went back and got everything, still had the other junk in the ZJ so it was interesting fitting everything but I got everything in except for the carpet which I tied up top. Bunch of stuff huh? The carpet is for my little blue MJ. I loaned my trailer to a dance studio to use as a float in the city christmas parade, just got it back today after the JY run. So I hauled the carpet down to the car wash, soaked it with engine cleaner, it came out okay. I could have picked a cleaner donor but hey it was only $7. The frame rails took more of a hit than I thought. Not a show stopper but I've got a little work ahead of me that I wasn't counting on. Hooked the bumper to my 5.9L powered frame straightener and had my new wifey get in and hold the brakes. :rotfl2: Bumper is off. :brows: Few days old pic of Jessie, she's a cutie. Her mother was a registered Bassett with obviously loose morals, cause no one is sure who dad was. -

Sounds good. We're planning a wheeling trip possibly around the MLK weekend, probably to Durhamtown but maybe Uwharrie or Gulches. -
