  1. Go have it appraised. I bet since its a Comanche, the book values will apply and you'll only get a very small bump for all the extras. It'll probably grade out at an "excellent" condition and price out what the book says an MJ or 97+ XJ in that condition would price at. Every built Jeep I see at an auction always goes for an embarrassingly low price. Look at all the TV auction shows that rebuild muscle cars that are out there. There's just not as big a market or demand for Jeeps. I don't care if it's a Shelby or an SS Camaro, 100k is just a rip off. Most jeeps are far rarer. For instance concours quality Jeepsters and Commandos go for pennies and they're rarer than those "rare" muscle cars that go for stupid money. Wranglers and CJ8s hold there value well. Rarer CJ6s do not. Unfortunately for us, based on auction prices for far rarer jeeps, we must accept the reality that our MJs will never be worth much. AFAIK, the most valuable Jeeps are truly restored Wagoneers (because they're still a status symbol), followed by WWII MBs and GPWs, then maybe restored Gladiator trucks and first gen Jeepsters. Restored and perfect waggys are 30-35k, WWII jeeps go 5-20K. Everything else is usually 5-10K. I'm only considering older jeeps not newer used JKs and I'm not considering short production runs of military aluminum body models, or special duty units like the military dual cab FC170s or very rare civilian Agri-jeeps with implements. Unfortunately for us, and other guys in other Jeep circles , we're stuck in a niche enthusiast market. I'd give a kidney for a fully loaded 92' or to have my loaded 86' XLS back. But they'd go for peanuts at auction.
  2. 1. True 2. Untrue 3. True
  3. Looks like Bama has this one in the bag. It's like men verses boys. But that's only because Bama used 100% of their highway maintenance funds to recruit players from TX. Anyone driven through Birmingham lately? They officially took the road maintenance crown (or lack of) from Louisiana.
  4. People from Kentucky talk weird.
  5. Sometimes my MJ gets sad when he catches me looking at prettier trucks.
  6. What types of applications do you guys run? Thought we could share ideas for what you use for automotive, travel, entertainment, anything. I have four pages of apps on my iphone. In addition to the stuff below, I've got some local weather, news and events applications a couple of daily devotional apps and a banking app. Here's a few other notable ones. I really wish I could get a program that would read a renix computer but that's unlikely someone would or could make software that would work on a handheld device or phone. For automotive stuff: JP Magazine app CL Ebay Motors For entertainment, most are for kids: Star Walk - This one is really good! It lists celestial events, moon phases, and helps you find constellations in the sky just by directing the phone skyward. The kids really like this one. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/star-walk-hd-5-stars-astronomy/id363486802?mt=8 Home Run Battle 2. This one is very addictive. Its by Com2us. Tower Defense Lost Earth. Also by Com2us. GunApp Angry Birds A bunch of frog games my daughter plays. 95.9 The Ranch app, so I can listen to some decent music. The country stations here stink. AlpineCrawler, duh, it has a Comanche on it. What do you guys run?
  7. I spoke with a few locals in Alpine, one old lady told me the lights would actually follow you from a distance and that back in the 60s and 70s you could get really close to them, in fact they would come really close to town. I don't doubt your sightings, a lot of people vehemently swear by what they saw. ...and I'm sorry for hijacking the thread into the paranormal. If alien RVers didn't maliciously dump their radioactive gray water in Alpine we wouldn't be talking about this.
  8. Marfa Lights! I took a motorcycle trip out there back in my college days. Stayed up all night at a roadside park waiting to see those dang things. What a crock, of course they never showed themselves, because they don't actually exist,,,and I sure felt duped. :thwak:
  9. Never had one but I do like the looks of the 4th gen 83-85 Toyotas. I have a friend with a 5th gen truck, it was 4 cyl, no power at all but after 15 years he still uses it to run cattle.
  10. I would get a deck with 6 powered pre-outs if you want to run 4 mids and subs, that's if you want stereo subs instead of one mono sub. Depending on the amp in the deck and what speakers you run, you could get away with not running an amp to your mids, providing the deck is strong enough to power them. Check out Crutchfield's holiday specials. For just a little more you can get 6 pre-outs. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KDCX596/Kenwood-Excelon-KDC-X596.html. I have an Excelon 994 in my ZJ and its very good. Other tip would be to dish out some bucks on the wiring. Go big on the power wire and get good quality rca wires. Not from walmart. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_20609PK4/Kicker-09PK4.html. Its easy to make your own too. Also, if your budget allows, go with component sets instead of coaxial speakers. Much better sound since the tweets and mids are separated and not interfering with each other like a 2 or 3 way speaker. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-oYzoSko02fx/p_206DS62/Kicker-DS6-2.html I have a 600w amp pushing two kicker component sets and a 450 kicker amp pushing two 12" kicker subs. I have more bass than I need and since I can direct the tweets, its very clear, I hear Van Halen like its supposed to sound and with the components I can clearly hear the spoons in Spoonman too. Kinda purpose built to be clear because I lost most of my high frequency hearing in Iraq.
  11. You just joined the cool guy club! I have these on mine, except I just screwed them to the hood. I like em! On a hot day you will see the heat streaming out of them. But I cut the one with the square opening to let more heat out.
  12. Nice, never seen one before. Thanks for posting that, but my initial concerns would be watts and amperage draw. One of those would be really nice to have, especially if you could adjust the output for any DC item or laptop, phone whatever. I assume that's all taken care of with some miniature transformers? yes no?
  13. Most likely a hole for a front PTO driven winch or other PTO driven accessory.
  14. Dumping those split rim wheels should be #1 on the to-do list, or get a tire cage. I bet its got left hand thread lug nuts on the left side too.
  15. Its a Gurkha 20 churchill set with a pretty decent full tang knife and leg holster (not pictured). Nice set and the smoke is mild but very nice. They're at least a 45 min - 1hr cigar. Nice bag, I mean that. I'd use it for a day pack or a daily carry medi-pak. You got off cheap.
  16. :agree: This is how our country is becoming more and more divided. The more politicians tell us what we need and don't need the more it erodes our freedom.
  17. Relax brother. Our guns are going nowhere. The main problem with this impending legislation, is that it impedes on state's rights. The Constitution gives us the right to bear arms. That means any arms of a personal nature. It does not give us the right to arm ourselves with WMDs, Artillery, Chem weapons etc. We by federal law can carry open, concealed or otherwise and the constitution does not give congress or the president the right to restrict that. The way we carry personal arms is not limited by the constitution. To limit how we bare arms would require another constitutional ammendment. However, we are not a "nation" bound by a single federal entity. We are a republic of nation states. That's right...all of our states are nations. We are bound by our own state laws. The "state" elsewhere in the world equates a nation. But nowadays most Americans forget that. They don't know that a state equals a nation. We're a republic of "nations". The "United States", its a concept never conceived or successfully tried anywhere but here. Look at the EU, is that successful?,,,financially speaking it's not and it never will be due to the vast differences in ethnic and historical diversity. There's quite a lot to be said about our "melting pot", it worked for us but its not working successfully for anyone else....and yes I acknowledge there are many, many countries with a wide array of ethnicity and race. But none of them come close to our success. That's besides the point. The point is that states are the prime limiter of gun rights, not the federal government. We have the right to bare arms and maintain an armed militia to defend us from outside states and from the federal governement. I believe that is one of the reasons it was included so succinctly in the constitution. Revisionists in the current congress don't see it that way...and they are gaining ground. But there will never be an amendment to take our guns away. Unless the party that pushes it wishes to completely stomp on state's rights and disarm the entire public, which in effect would mean the end of that party, as well as weaken our country immeasurably. To repeal the 2nd ammendment would mean a civil war and the dissolution of the the US. I say it would weaken our country because its a historical fact that during the cold war, the USSR would have never invaded us. Our population is the most armed on the planet. It was a major strategic factor to the Soviets. They would have never been able to occupy and control American soil. That's if you ignore the nuclear and conventional superiority we had over them and China then (and still have to this day) and assume that they could have undertaken such an operation. (also ignoring the fact that we and the Russians would nuke our own soil on an invading force) We never had anything to fear from them or any other state. We never will. We are superior to everyone else and in every way. If the Soviets could have even dreamed of defeating us in a nuclear exchange, they could never have been able to defeat the well armed remaining American populace. This is a fact. Our legislators and the executive branch knows this. One might assume that that threat doesn't exist anymore, and now they'll do it anyway and try to justify disarming the public. But it would mean political suicide and falling on their own sword for the party that forces it on us. They'll lose eventually with our system of checks and balences. It is up to the states to decide its own gun laws, much as they already do. Don't fear or villainize the feds. They can't touch the states in any lasting or meaningful way. Another Clinton'esque weapons ban would only be temporary and not the end of the world. States can always refuse to enforce such a law like the way many states are currently refusing to set up health care exchanges. It would then fall on the feds to enforce it in all the states. They don't have the manpower or the court time to try everyone. Even if they outlawed every assault weapon, the feds would never be able to physically confiscate them all. Nor would they try. They know that's an impossibility. They're too busy giving away free money to unions and welfare mommas to attack us with goon squads to take away our weapons. Although I'm a proud American, I don't fear the Federal government, I support it but I demand that they fear me....because I vote and my seemingly inconsequential vote does actually mean something.
  18. Hey Congradulations! You've got one great Comanche there! I like how you kept the tailgate and original MJ tailights.

  20. If you're driving 100 miles a day then I'd forget this idea. Your gas mileage WILL turn to poop and you will regret it. There's a massive difference between 32" to 33" to 35" tires. I'd just stick with what you have. Spend your money on good quality selectable lockers instead. OX, Ecteds, or ARB.
  21. I bought this up because I'm actually a closet chef/cook... First real job besides a paper route and shoveling snow was at 16. I worked at a McDonalds for a year. My Boss then, Mr. C was a good boss. Gave me my first butt chewing when I threatened to quit one time. Anyway, I didn't learn how to cook there but I learned how to multi-task, move quickly around a kitchen, quality control etc all from Mr. C. It served me well, because later it helped pay for my last two years of college working in family restaurants and a steak house. I love cooking and was even thinking of taking a course in it. But I probably won't, think I'd rather waste my time playing with Jeeps instead and in my spare time I'll try to tame my OCD tendencies when it comes to cookware.
  22. I did the same thing after I burned up all the beetle kill pine on the property and started burning the scrap ends of pine 4x4s that were left overs at the plant I worked at. They were nice and dry but burnt fast and the house would be cold in the morning. I went through at least 5-7 pallets like that in one winter. I started keeping an eye out for old dead hard woods on empty lots or building sites, or anywhere construction was going on or about to happen. Often old trees are just bulldozed up into a pile and there can be good hardwood gems. If there's some forest nearby that you can take wood from then its worth a day out for a "nature hike" with the GF with axe in hand. Check the local regs before taking wood from state or federal lands, but most states allow it on a personal use basis and limit you to taking already fallen trees because it helps to reduce fire danger. You'd be surprised how fast a big log can be split without a spltting axe. Just start on the outside and work your way in. Turn the circle into a hex, then a square, a triangle, etc you get the point. Its back breaking always trying to split the a log right down the middle. I was always thinking about ways to heat the home...found this idea too and its pretty nifty. Search for "solar heaters" on youtube, there's lots of ways to build one real cheap.
  23. Are they split logs? If not you might wanna split em to speed up the drying, depending on how small you're willing to make em.
