Rubicon Express Control Arm Problem
87Warrior replied to comanche13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That is wrong. But I don't think its your fault. My old RE arms did not install like that. You could pull the arm, apply heat and hit with a BFH. I wouldn't try to close the entire gap with the stock UCA bolts. They are pretty pathetic. I had a JKS UCA have a little more slop at the axle bushing than I liked. Installed with a grade 8 washer 5+ years ago and it is still going strong. -
I was about to place my order, then read the build/install directions. Didn't realize you had to bend the material as well. With no access to a brake or press, paying somebody to do it would send the cost of the bumper sky-high. How much did the shipping run you, Mike?

Dang Mike, that sucks! And here I was complaining about needing to work tomorrow.

Horrific Torture Of A 4.0, Warning: Extremely Graphic
87Warrior replied to ftpiercecracker1's topic in The Pub
Sad. -
From what I can see from the numbers, it looks like the FSJ rear leaf should fit but will put the axle a little bit further forward in the wheel arch. Surprisingly, the spring rates are also comparable (MJ rate in the first chart is for metric ton).

98 Xj Interior To An 88 Comanche?
87Warrior replied to 1tonMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Much more involved than you think. Start here: http://comancheclub.com/index.php?/topic/30671-97+-Swap-How-To -
How have I missed this? Dumb and Dumber is one of those movies I have watched more times than any person should. I wonder if the film makers had any discussions with Chrysler. After all, the XJ takes center stage during the gas station scene.

86 Rough Idle Fix 2.5
87Warrior replied to anti-christ-comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Looks like I have a new project for tomorrow! I noticed that rubber block fit a bit loose last time I was under the hood. -
X2 I am real curious to see some detailed pictures of how this beast was constructed.

Sounds good. I did take the 86 out last weekend. Was a lot of fun.

I have been searching high and low, but can't seem to find an underhood wiring harness for a 91-95 4.0/AW4 (XJ) that hasn't been hacked up by somebody. I am also in need of the PCM and TCU for the same rig. If you are somewhat local, I'd be glad to come and pull what I need from your parts rig, or I will pay to have what I need shipped to me. Located in Central KS (66441). Thanks, Brett

What To Do With My New(First) Mj
87Warrior replied to Jester1341's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Find a good 2.5 and swap it in. As I understand it, a 2.5 block is a 2.5 block no matter the year. This means AMC 2.5 or Chrysler 2.5, it doesn't matter. I would strongly suggest you find a cheap 2.5 and stick in there so you can start enjoying the truck. If you find the 2.5 undesirable, then start collecting parts for a 4.0 or V8 swap. -
Shoot, for $4500 it should include the old race motor!

The 92 is known as 'Rusty', although its not entirely accurate anymore. The 86 is simply known as 'Comanche' or 'Heavy Four'.

Don't really follow, but its exciting to see my alma mater at #1. :) Go Cats!

Lookin' good Rob!

1986 MJ 2.5L 4x4 | "Heavy Four"

Went wheeling today. The little MJ was trail leader because I know the trails like the back of my hand. Spent most of the day spotting the bigger XJs over bigger obstacles so not many pictures. And a shot my my JKS discos wired up: -
I have come across similar issues. It is always helpful to know what parts interchange among Jeeps.

Bought A 2000 Xj Today For Comanche Upgrades

Power window switch molding. I don't believe manual window doors would be a problem. Awhile back this exact topic came up and there was even a pictorial example of the interference. -

The doors will close. The issue is that the glovebox door won't open all the way. -

The CAD (central axle disconnect) is a series of 4 vacuum lines and a vacuum operated actuator on the front axle that is part of the 4wd system. Usually after 20+ years the system doesn't work so folks bypass it. The muffler is a cheap no name unit. -

Carpet will fit 'funny' because it is formed for the XJ that has cross seat braces and a flat floor. Your Comanche has no seat braces and an additional frame brace. That said, the carpet will fit in the MJ cab and will look fine. -

I finally got the truck dropped off at the muffler shop. The shop is old school, has been around forever and is well known just as the bodyshop guy is doing the work on my 92. Needless to say, I dropped it off to get everything from the head pipe back replaced. Opted out of using the catalytic converter as the TBI system isn't sensitive to it and the fact the existing converter was gutted by a previous owner. For a ridiculously cheap price, I got a new muffler and tailpipe installed. The little 2.5 has a nice rumble to it with this set up with absolutely no drone. Then again, ANYTHING would have been better than the wired up rusted pipe that was in there before. -
Wow, she's a beauty! About 8 years ago I was at an automobile special interest auction for dealers only. I watched a spotless, better than new, in stock condition Pacer run through the auction and only fetch $2300. I suspect that same car would get much more than that today with the popularity AMC vehicles are gaining.
