This cheap socket set from Home Depot has been the most used tool/time saver in my garage or on the trail. It disassembled 90% of my '92 MJ and comes with me on every trail run I do. Being cheap I don't have to worry about losing a piece or getting sand in the ratchet. That said, I have only had to replace a cracked 13mm socket once. The tools also have a great feel to them, nice and sturdy. Image Not Found

For sale 88 Comanche.
87Warrior replied to Bitemybag's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
Can you go into more detail about the RADesigns shifter? I am planning on converting a 5spd truck to an AW4 and had planned on swapping in an auto harness/TCU but like the looks of the RADesigns stuff. Did you need to source any stock parts for the swap (shift cable, gates, etc)? Or is the RADesgins (Rock shifter + Baja II) all you need to get the manually shifting AW4 going? By the way, your truck is very nice! -

Going Rate For Full Width Axles?
87Warrior replied to 87Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
A lot of good information here! The thread seems more tech oriented now, but that is good! This method seems to be what most folks do and what I will probably end up doing. I do have a question regarding the cast leaf perch. Is there any reason why you would HAVE to run a bead around the tube and the cut portion of the perch casting? As I can tell, each side of the differential cast will have the same amount of material/plug welds around the tube after trimming and from the factory Dana did not weld it. I do understand that welding axle tubes to the housing is common practice to prevent the tubes from rotating or pulling out of the housing. Does anybody have pictures of their chassis side link mounts (3 or 4 link)? I am curious to see what others have done. -
Going Rate For Full Width Axles?
87Warrior replied to 87Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I anticipate going with a 3 link setup modeled after Claytons. Trackbar is one of those things I figure will need to be done once ride height/steering is figured out. But an integrated trackbar and UCA mount on the axle will probably be best along with some serious plate/beef at the frame end. Toying with coil overs. I ran the tape measure across the front of the MJ and the 60 today and think I may have a decent idea that would allow me to use coils and shocks. But really, a set of good coils and.shocks will cost what a decent used coilover does. I will start a build once I get closer to actually starting the work. -

Those Ballistic brackets are at the top of my list. Seems like they should fit the bill perfectly. -
Going Rate For Full Width Axles?

The KingPin is generally regarded as being a better axle. However, the ball joint axles are not considered to be bad and should suit my driving style just fine. Came out of a '95 F350. I will be running it full width. You just need to jump the pond for a bit. There are quite a few HP 44's for sale out of the F250. Might be cheaper than Currie+Shipping..... -
Going Rate For Full Width Axles?

It looks like I may be in business. I picked up this complete HP ball joint Dana 60 yesterday. It made the '86 squat about 4". I also built a portable rack to make it easier to maneuver. Lazy man's unloader: -
Dang, I drove 6 hours to pick up my 'rust free' 92. Also drove 7 hours to pick up the trucks from Correy. Drove 14 hours to pick up my Rubi. Make it an adventure. I love driving.

TJs hold their value incredibly well. I've never been able to figure out exactly why though.

Brown Santa left this truck a few presents on the front porch today. What we have is round #2 replacement rocker panel and the JCR Offroad DIY MJ bumper: The rocker came Auto Parts Network under the direction of my body shop guy. It is a Sherman part. He believes we will have more success with this rocker than the C2C he was trying to make look right. I will say that this Sherman rocker looks to have more detailed bends and notches. Hopefully I can visit with him on Friday about the plan of attack. Then for the second box of joy, the Black Friday sale DIY MJ rear bumper. Here are a few of my first impressions: - The box was heavy! - JCR sticker included - After reviewing the build instructions online (no print version sent) and studying the parts, I feel confident the build will be straight forward - The $20 receiver hitch is very pathetic. I would skip it next time. - I am a little disappointed the D-ring slots were cut into the bumper face as I do not plan on using them. Won't be to hard to fill the holes. When this bumper became available, I knew I had to have it for this truck. While I believe a stock bumper looks best on the rear end of an MJ, I had to face the fact that they are very weak. Weak is not what I want protecting the rust free bed of my truck ;)

Don't think so. Closest thing is a Rubicon 44, but it is low pinion. -
Man, they always look better in natural light :)

Going Rate For Full Width Axles?
87Warrior replied to 87Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for the info guys :) The plan formulating in my mind has selected 38" tires for the truck. I hope to find a solid set of axles within 6 hours from central KS. I haven't shredded a Ujoint with my TJ on 35's yet with Alloy shafts/joints, but I drive it real carefully. I don't think that will be the case in the future as I have a yearning to go bigger and better ;) -
Sheesh. Looks painful.

I have been debating on a different build direction for my rusty MJ. Full width and big tires. So I have been researching axles. What types of prices are you guys finding for a set of axles, front and rear? D44, D60, 14 bolt, etc? Saw a hub to hub D44 HP and 60 with disks and 4.56's on CL this evening. Price seems to be on target for those particular axles. Pair from the same truck is nice too.

Just haven't had the time to sit on the deck and 'take care' of the problem ;)

My mouser has done a great job since we moved out of town. Image Not Found He catches a mouse about once a month. Haven't had any indoor/garage rodent problems. Even my 86 that sits beside the garage has been all clear. As part of our home pest management, we have a few of those outdoor box traps. The problem I have is with squirrels. They are constantly running around and try to build nests under the hood of the 91's. The squirrels are just too fast for my dog.

That would be an awesome Christmas present! We've ran into a few more fit-n-finish snags and are awaiting new parts to arrive :)

TPS, CPS, ISC, Mobil 1 filters and oil, and a Hanson rear bumper.

Jim, I just placed my order online with a card. Once in the checkout mode you can select a few different payment types. ;)
