  1. Don't worry Don, I will enjoy the 60 degree temperature today by doing something useful for an MJ project :)
  2. Oooo. Purdy! You can deliver the truck anytime. Just leave the keys on the back deck :)
  3. Wow, that is a clean truck! I don't quite understand the Barrett Jackson crowd. They seem to go googly-eyed over a shiny modified vehicle. That MJ would be worth a whole lot more to me, as something special, if it was restored to stock. I view all of the muscle cars that get pushed through the auction the same way. Maybe big and shiny is what it takes for an 80's style pickup to get noticed at Barrett Jackson.
  4. That was the first thing I noticed when I saw the picture. Knowing most folks don't like reading, I figured it would be appropriate to capture what is going on at a quick glance so I borrowed it from Facebook. If you wish to see who is the backbone of this movement visit: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1115194 I have never been to JV. I have never participated in a KOH race. I do not have any rig suitable to tackle the course. I do, however, spend 95% of my time wheeling on public land owned by the government. We all benefit from the guys involved with the KOH. Manufactures step up aftermarket support through designs and trials through the cars in the KOH. All of the manufactures with top of the line products have close ties to JV and the KOH. Even the Sierra Club opposes the JV take over. When was the last time wheelers and the Sierra Club had a common goal? That in its self should speak volumes.
  5. It is time for the users of any public land to let it be known that you wish to keep it that way. https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/save-johnson-valley-ohv-area-be-fiscally-responsible-stop-29-palms-marine-base-expansion-keep-public/5r0C7Xw4 If we get 25,000 signatures in one month, the White House has to respond to our concerns. The group that has been fighting to save Johnson Valley has made some good headway by getting an amendment attached to the recent Defense bill that just passed. Basically, the amendment sends the Marines back to the table to assess the impact that the expansion would have on the economy. The Marines themselves admit they no longer need this land but the order to take it was given five years ago and it's hard to stop the train once it's left the station. Please send this to everyone you know!!!!!!!!! 1000 signatures every day. Spread the word! Thanks in advance for your help in keeping public lands public.
  6. I do not believe so. The drag link is sold as a unit from the adjusting sleeve to the knuckle. The joint is usually formed into the end of the drag link. If you need to replace it, consider using the slightly larger V8 ZJ drag link, adjusting sleeve and TRE at the pitman arm that will bolt right onto the truck. Then consider using the slightly larger V8 ZJ tierod, adjusting sleeve and TRE for a complete steering upgrade.
  7. I was forced to put the top on my TJ in order to make it into town to order an O2 sensor. (It was below freezing, I'm not that tough) New O2 will be at the local NAPA in the morning. I am sure the O2 sensor needed replaced anyhow. Let's hope it fixes problem :)
  8. Seems like an decent truck. But those wheels are uuuuuugggllllyyyy! He may get 15k in LA for it.
  9. No big loss on the bumper, at least it was a Fey and not OEM :) Dang you for stealing the nicest MJ in the state of KS. They just aren't that clean around here.
  10. This truck has always run a bit on the cool side, about at the 1/2 way point between 100 and 210 (as indicated on the factory gauge). Regardless, the gauge seems to read just as it did in the summer. I can watch the gauge climb and fall some when the t-stat opens. Winter or summer it occurs at about the same bend in the road every time I leave the house. I know this truck sat unused for at least 8 years in an unknown condition. I am not sure how the sensors handle that kind of condition. Is there anyway to test the O2 sensor on the 2.5l TBI?
  11. Truck in question: 1986, 2.5L TBI, AX5, 207. 99% stock, 168k miles. As of lately I have begun having driveability issues with my truck. When ever the air temperature is below 35 degrees it runs terrible for the first 10 miles or so. Example: Cold start first thing in the morning it fires right up and has a slightly elevated idle. The engine responds very quickly when throttle is applied. Things go down hill when the truck hits the road. Put the truck in 1st and notice some hesitation/stuttering as I head up the driveway. Once on the road I can only manage 45-50 mph in 3rd gear. The truck will simply not go any faster. If I try to go faster I am met with a bad engine stutter. It sounds like it is either not getting fuel or spark. Depress the clutch and the engine will rev to the moon like normal. While holding an inconsistent 45mph with a slight stutter, the truck will occasionally pick up speed as if somebody hit the 'go baby go' button. I am able to reproduce this by varying the throttle position between 1/4 and 3/4 throttle. After fighting with the truck for 10 miles, it is as if somebody flips a switch. The truck will instantly run like normal and will let me achieve any speed the 2.5L can muster. When this issue started to appear, fuel economy went from 20+mpg to 13-mpg. The truck will also diesel for 1-2 seconds when shutting it off. This only occurs at the first start up of the day. Let it sit for a few hours and it runs like normal, however it will occasionally diesel at shut down. My fuel tank, fuel pump and fuel filter are approximately 8 months old. Air filter is clean. I am running 87 octane fuel from the same fuel stations I have been going to for 15 years. I think the truck is running pig rich for whatever reason and flooding it when cold. I am unsure how to go about diagnosing the TBI Renix system. What sensors, if any, does the Renix system read from when in closed loop? My gut is telling me to replace the TPS and TBI injector. However, I don't want to start blindly throwing parts at it. Thanks for any help :)
  12. Beautiful. Let's take bets, I bet she sells for $10k+ :)
  13. You are correct. I was very relieved to find a black key to my Rubi after I won the online auction.
  14. ^ Nice Rubi, but its not an Umlimited! :) Chrysler should have talked to Toyota about an automatic transmission instead of throwing in the 42RLE. It shifts like a wet noodle at the most inopportune times.
  15. Actually, 3/2 or 4/1 will work for me. Whatever it takes to get a group run going ;)
  16. In regards to your airbag light, the XJ and TJ do not have any frontal sensors that trigger the bags. The only trigger is the accelerometer module under the center console. I would start by checking the plugs there :) Nice progress on the truck. Glad you decided to keep it and finish the conversion!
  17. You are correct Ryan. The TJ Unlimited did come standard with a D44 in the rear. I was not aware the 04 Unlimited was only offered with an automatic transmission.
  18. I have no doubt a stock TJ Unlimited will be worth some serious coin in 20+ years. Even now they are holding their value very well when compared to a TJ. If I was looking for one, I would be on the look out for a 2004. The 05/06 have the 4.0 that is known for its oil pump gear drive assembly failures. 2004 was the last year for the NV3550 5-speed transmission as well.
  19. I think I paid $300 for a rust free long bed with tailgate and tail lights. I also got the cab corners from the same truck. I did have to drive 6 hours one way to get it.
  20. The TJ Unlimited was manufactured from 2004 to 2006.
  21. Picture of hanger and spring: Sorry about the quality, its the best I could do since its dark and raining. I think the 3/2 configuration would suit the military wrap style of spring best. I would be very happy with 3" of lift over the factory configuration. 2" would work that is what everybody else wants as I can make up the difference with shackles.
  22. Hanger: But I think he wants to see the hanger with the stock spring eye installed in order to check for interference. I will snap a picture of my, complete, 86 this evening :)
  23. If I understand correctly, is this for a headliner board, headliner material and sun visor material? If so, count me in for gray :) If not, do not include me as I have the material from Joanns in my attic.
  24. I stopped in a week couple weeks ago to deliver the replacement rocker. The replacement was tapered and looked correct in comparison to the C2C junk we tried to make work. The doors were fitted and in primer. He found bondo in the passenger door but removed it and pulled the metal into shape. New strikers were installed as well. The doors shut soooooo smooth, I was in shock. Nothing like any XJ or MJ I have seen in the past. Still trying to find a set of fenders locally as the set I purchased was full of bondo and missing clips. He is slow, but does a dang good job. I knew this project would take him a long while as it is very in depth. The truck will come back to me with a show quality finish. I am hopeful that the truck will come home in 2013. The customization is done and following the rocker replacement its just blocking, painting and front/rear window replacement. :) My fuel plans involve using a 22g Dakota tank in the stock place with a late 90's Dakota sending unit and pump. The Ohm values of empty/full with the Dakota sender are extremely close to the 97+ XJ and should read mostly accurate.
