I've been reading along on this thread, but haven't posted b/c I'm really not that knowledgeable in this area. However....I was wondering if divorce mounting the atlas was an option to add length to the drivetrain. I believe AA makes a divorce mount Atlas, but don't know if an original Atlas can be adapted. Would this even help or would it cause a problem for rear driveshaft. I'm not even sure if the idea is possible, but I figured I'd post it anyway.....anybody got any opinions?

88 Long bed project( new picures)
BJA814 replied to Brenmg's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Got any pics of the progress today buddy? I ended up throwing that tranny in my truck finally, so I never got to stop by and see how you guys did. -
AW4 and 3.55's here And open exhaust is loud...an annoying kind of loud, but shouldn't affect power to the point where it's noticable.

Welcome to the club house buddy!! I think you should name it.....baby Clifford -
Pete, I NEED one of those Comanche Pimp shirts :rotfl2: Just picked up another last week to build for a buddy.

nope she just a little 2 whl model. it does have the power transmison tho to change the ratio or somthing i guess its like 4 hi and 4 lo. not sure exactly tho or if it even works or not lol That's for changing the shift points on the AW4 transmission. Most early XJ and MJ's came with this button. And PLEASE don't leave it in the desert. It's just not a responsible thing to do. Atleast sell the taillights to make your moeny back and call someone to get it for scrap. Matter of fact, if you're willing to take them time, I'm sure you could sell some body parts to those of us up here in the northeast and the rustbelt. Bed is in decent shape minus the rear quarter...but the wheel arches are perfect, the rockers and cab corners look good too.

Throw on the biggest mud tires you can fit, then wheel the snot out of it. When the rear leaf springs break in half, then find another one to swap parts on. (Pass side top leaf looks fubar) EDIT: Is it even 4wd? I don't see any T-case shifter.

I got a set of stick on flames for it if you want. They'll really make it jump off the line.

Thanks for the comments guys. I've got some tricks up my sleeve for the headache rack...still undecided. But the basic idea should be pretty simple. Started pulling the tranny this morning...hoping to get the 2wd aw4 out after lunch. I'm still waiting on my control arms too :fs1: I'll throw some pics up tonight. -
Bagged! haha Thats rough...definately a close one. I've done that before, but with the cat....didn't think she had enough room to get under the door, so I hit the button...as she crawled under it. Not sure how many times I hit the button, but it went up again, and she wasn't flat. I guess it worked out :dunno: Glad to hear no major damage.

Nuts.....just absolutely crazy. So many great shots in that one....not gonna spoil it for everybody though!!

He won't need weight, haven't you seen the throbs of hot women that just hop into the backs of our MJ's? Just drive it around the block ;) . :rotf: I wish! Rob L. Hey now, I had about a half dozen in the back of mine last weekend -
Doorless kicks @$$...it really is stupid fun. And the bitties love hood vents :D
-
Seeing as MJs have a foot more wheelbase, I've got my doubts. :D But I always hate to assume anything when it comes to Jeeps. Pete...look what I found while looking around on this wonderful site: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5484&start=15 About a third of the way down the 2nd page

Those are 34x9.5x15 TSL's They fit perfect in my opinion. They tuck nicely with a little trimming. I've been meaning to measure the BS on the rims. -
Project Swamp Yankee UPDATE: 36" TSL SX
BJA814 replied to BJA814's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Well... I had a hell of a time out in the woods this Friday. We had a bonfire way in the back of some friends land, so he and I were running people back in forth in the Jeeps. (All this with 2wd and an open D35...EEKS) And now it is time to rebuild a good portion of the Jeep. I've been enjoying driving it too much to do anything major to it. But my girl leaves for Italy thursday, so I'll have the time to do some serious wrenching  Plans are: All new MOOG balljoints Full set of RC adj. control arms CB install Rear bumper AW4 and 231 swap New exhaust (Thrush 3") Roll Bar/headache rack/lights Tire carrier/can holder Replace lost swaybar disco :fool: On board air Swap in radiator from XJ (only 6 mo old) Fix/modify e-brake bracket And possibly regear and swap in the D44 if I have the money. The D44 might have to wait until next month. Stay Tuned!!!
