Stopped to take a look at the truck today. It's in the body shop having the bed repainted due to a few bubbles near the second gas tank door. I talked to the builder/owner for a while. Pretty cool guy and seems to love comanches. He said he's heard about the website, but isn't very computer savy. I'll be heading back friday to snag some pics if its still there. Said he'd be more than happy to let me take a look at it and post up pics here on the board. What would you gusy like to see? Brad

I got tired of tearing up the leather on my DD and getting grease all over the carpets. So when I was looking for a work truck, I just couldn't resist the chance to build a wheeler too!

This is literally minutes from my town. Anyone interested enough to give me a reason to check it out?? Brad

When I'm finally ready to get rid of the Yukon, I'll be looking for a LS2 GTO. :clapping: Ok, so that didn't help. As other have said, Honda, Toyota, jettas, etc. are great choices. One thing to keep in mind is that if you're looking for a car that will be easy and cheap to maintain, pick a popular model. For instance, you could build an entire mid 90's honda accord from Autozone parts alone. Because they're such a popular car, most places will have common items in stock.

Those are Canadian Hemlocks. Some do actually prefer them as christmas trees. :smart: They do look better tied to the 'Manche!

Maybe he ment the YJ already took it's nap, so it's no longer disgruntled :dunno:

The jeep was a 2000 TJ 2.5l ax-5 And not having experienced the carnage first hand, I can't really offer insight into exactly what happened. But the CV joint was trashed. Looks like it had been for a while. I was thinking that it may have caused a bind and split the case. The the chain let loose. The underside of the floor was trashed as well as the inside of the skid pan. The fuel line was crushed against the frame, luckily not split. The brake line and evap line were wrapped around the front driveshaft like a candy-cane. Here's a pic of the floor damage. You can see the brake line after we straigtened them to get them out of the way.

JeepcoMJ...replied to your PM Pete...The driveshaft was still connected to the axle...and the shaft from the t-case. I don't believe it was in 4wd at the time. But like I said, I just got a call saying "something went boom" haha.

He was driving on the highway :dunno: The front CV joint was trashed, and apparently someone tried towing him. Not sure what happened really. We just put some Black RTV on the pieces and are letting them dry right now. Just kidding.....I had a spare NP231 that we threw in. We never found the other half of the original case, although we did find a gear in the breakdown lane :D

Got a call from a buddy on Friday night. He said he thought a U-joint let go. Here's what I found:

Sad news to hear. I feel for you. Putting down a best friend is not an easy thing to do, but when their suffering is too great, it's for the better. I've been there myself, and this really tugs at the heart for me. I truly am sorry for your loss. Brad

Thanks Pete! Just got my swag....awesome stuff! Almost as exciting as getting the 'manche itself!

I'd have to disagree... 32C :smart:  32?? Remember, the measurement isn't just about how big or little the rack is. A girl, not necessarily saying Miss Green Shirt, might have a, um, "large back". ahhhhhh hahaha! you guys are the best. "Because...you're kind of cute like a frog, and you're always jumping around, and I'd like to jump you. "

what beds can be used on our comanches
BJA814 replied to comanche87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
As far as looks, any older small truck should be close....ranger/s10/dakota? But I vote flat tube bed :D -
Dang, I wish I ONLY had that much rust haha.

Well since we haven't see a whole week above 50* since Thanksgiving, I'll really been itching for the warm weather again. I thought it might be fun to post up pics of what non-jeep activities you guys are looking forward this spring/summer. I can't wait to get back out fishing, and drag the camper around.

Project Swamp Yankee UPDATE: 36" TSL SX
BJA814 replied to BJA814's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Well, after being tied up with selling off parts, cleaning up all the junk around my place, and dealing with the snow, it's finally time to get going on this project. I'm picking up the 6.5" lift this weekend, hoping to get that installed. The front should be pretty straight forward, I may skip the spacers at first and just run 4.5" of lift. Need to pick up some perches and U-bolts for the SOA in the rear. I'll be running the 4:10 D35 for now, but I have a D44 out of a rodeo in mind for the future. Tranny is pulled from the 87. I will be sticking with the pukegoat for now, as I'm cheap and have nothing else. When it grenades, I'll swap in an ax-15. I also got the nose swapped from the 87 to the 88. It's now straight and multi-colored woooooo! Still need to finish patching the floors, and fixing the seat brackets. I also picked up a fullsize rollbar from the JY for $20 (some modifying will be in store to make it fit). And ordered some 4' firestiks off ebay. Here's some pics to keep everyone happy for a few days. It should be nice this weekend, so look for updates. My current seat: Other projects I picked up....the Jeep is hiding in the BG -
thats what I was thinking. If I were to run them, it'd only be offroad, i.e. I would trailer to the event. So I wouldn't be worried about balancing. I'm fairly confident I could get them square. Just wondering if it's even worth it. Anybody ever run Bobcat tires in the mud? these are just under 33"
-
well I guess some background would help. We have a 3/4 yd. Loader that we're scraping at the farm. It has brand new tires (similar to bobcat treads, but more spacing b/w lugs) I could probably get all for $50. I was just wondering if they would work for a mud bog. I wouldn't be airing them down any less then if the were on the loader. Not too many big rocks around here anyhow. I might still try to make something work, we'll see. Thanks for the info so far guys.

Indeed they are. I've failed to come up with anything other than recentered H1 rims. Didn't know if any one here has run them on any jeep.
-
Has anyone ever seen 16.5" rims with a 5x4.5 bolt pattern? Does such a thing exist or is the only option to run adaptors? I found some......interesting  .......tires that I'd like to run on wheeling trips and the local mud bogs.
-
:agree: I love towing with my Yukon, even though its the short version (2000). My parents have an 01 XL, and the added wheelbase isn't really noticably better, as one would think. But since we're dreaming, I say go for it, but how about powering it with the 7.3l diesel?
-
Concept, was that this weekends storm? we had alot of snow earlier, I just thought we would be done with it for a while gues not. I've been keeping my eye out for a small plow for the manche. The C50 is great for pushing a foot and a half of snow, but it takes an act of God to turn it around at the top of the driveway.

Grrrrr......we all tried to buy that truck rob. My girl even went to school with that kid, but no dice. I called several times and told him I had cash and a trailer waiting. :dunno:
