Need help finding Header for my 86 2.5l
dasbulliwagen replied to Me&my86MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you look at replacement stock manifolds they are the same part for egr or non egr systems. You just plug the egr port for the ones that don't need it. Therefore it can be extrapolated that the header like the one from aFe twisted steel that doesn't have an egr port will bolt right up. -

They bolt in the same but don't have the connection for the renix egr system. -
Need help finding Header for my 86 2.5l

Do you have emissions inspections in your state? If you don't. Buy one for the 91 and newer and block off the egr to the intake manifold. -
Friend sent this to me figured it was funny enough to share

I had that happen once. -
Show me your 2.8l v6
dasbulliwagen replied to 86manche207's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think most people are too ashamed to admit having a 2.8 let alone want to show it off. I do plan to build one in the future myself for my 86 longbed. It will probably be a 3.1 or a 3.4 though. Thats a ways down the road though. I want to build it for my daughter to drive when the time comes. I think I have 8 or 9 years to get it done at this point. -
Can anyone tell me what the front axle is?

I got the beast home. Its in a little worse condition than I imagined before seeing it. Nothing that can't be fixed with my Hobart and some scrap metal. It has bias ply tires on 16x4 rims, 9 inch rear end and what appears to be some sort of closed knuckle Dana in the front. The chassis is solid though but the brake lines all need to be re done. One of them got busted strapping it down to the trailer and leaked brake fluid all over. I'll try to load a couple pics pretty soon.

The 292 Y block is an early Ford v8. I pretty sure I'm getting it. I'm actually trading my bike for it. I haven't ridden in 6 years so its just been sitting. If the truck is solid it should be a decent trade. I'll see it in person next week. The guy originally wanted me to trade my Comanche but that ain't happening. Anybody know any good old ford truck forums?

Break in oil post rebuild
dasbulliwagen replied to Sir Jacob the 2nd's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
After break in make sure to continue using an oil with a high zinc content. It will make sure things stay happy. -
PCM... ECU... Its semantics. Isn't it under the dash. I am only assuming that the wiring harnesses for each under the dash is completely different. I'm not trying to give bad information. Please correct me of I'm wrong. I've never read otherwise on this forum. Every time I read about a conversion both under hood and dash harnesses need to be swapped I'm assuming because the ECU wiring is different between the two. Am I wrong? Please don't take this as angry or confrontational. Its not. I just want to help. Correctly if I can!

Do you guys know anything about these? Its a long bed stepside with a 292 Y block with a 4 speed manual and divorced transfer case. Its not drivable but seems to be complete. I've found out that Ford started in house production of these 4x4's in 1959. Beyond that I don't know much. This would not be an MJ parts donor. Its too rare and valuable for that. Just looking for some opinions and experiences.

1986 SJ Grand Wagoneer 1987 MJ Comanche Sportruck For parts: 1986 MJ Comanche X 1986 XJ Wagoneer

List: everything front doors and forward to the front bumper. 1990 and down 1991 and up. There's another break at 1997 when the doors and front sheet metal changed slightly and 1996 went to OBDII electrical.

It sounds like you're not going to be happy with this no matter what you do. Even a rebuilt 2.5 is still going to be way down on power compared to a broken in 4.0. I think you should fix the stalling problem and re sell it and wait on a 4.0 to come around. You'll be much happier later on when you want lift and big tires. don't screw this one up to the point you won't be able to sell it and get your money back.

Violently shaking at high speeds
dasbulliwagen replied to ComancheLover90's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Any time you change something on the front end you need to do an alignment including caster. Balance the wheels good too. This all needs to be right before blaming other stuff. Do that and put new ujoints in the driveshaft and see what happens.- 14 replies

If you search enough jeep forums you'll find a cheap complete 2.5 to either swap in or use as a donor. I bought a complete running spare engine for $100 off the classifieds here. There's always someone doing a swap and selling one off. The 2.5 is a much better engine than that 2.8. The 2.8 isn't worth the time and energy its going to take to make it work in your Comanche. Just keep searching for what's needed to fix the 2.5. You'll be much happier in the end.

oil pump location
dasbulliwagen replied to creep_in_the_jeep's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had no figment issues either with the Melling HV pump I installed on my Grand Waggy 4.2. -
I have this problem with my 2012 jk sport. I have had a check engine light on non stop since I bought it. 54,000 miles on it now. They never gave me a straight answer about the light until now. Just was told about the left head issue and parts are on order now all under warranty. I believe they extended the warranty on this issue until 150k. SO if you haven't done so get this fixed. Or put 148k on it and get a fresh head and gasket then...Have them put three new spark plugs in the right head while they are doing the job. That way you won't have to worry about a tune up or just half a tune up when the time comes. The new left head comes with plugs in it already. You'll have to pay for the right three but it won't be much relatively speaking. Just don't let them charge you the full tune up labor amount. 3 to 5 tenths should cover it being tied to the rest of the job.

oil pump location
dasbulliwagen replied to creep_in_the_jeep's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
"Clattering and Knocking" ??? I was going to say get a high volume pump, maybe a Melling, and use diesel engine oil 15w40, but if you have what is generally considered real knocking, it may be too late. Again, what is your milage and your normal driving style? And is yours auto or manual? Hopefully we can help you out better with a little more info. -
2 junk rustys steering stabilizers....
dasbulliwagen replied to krustyballer16's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You should be able to find the old man emu stabilizer cheaper somewhere else if you search. Quadratech isn't known for their low prices. -
The 12 model and early 13 models have an extended warranty on the left cylinder head assy. If you ever get a cyl 2, 4, or 6 misfire you'll probably get a new head... That is if it hasn't been done already. Even then some of the early repairs were done with the same part number so they can go bad again. Besides that you'll need to keep an eye on the oil cooler leaking underneath the intake manifold and the oil pressure sensor going bad throwing a check engine light. The 5 speed Mercedes auto trans is a decent one so you shouldn't see any issues there. I know you guys are going to love it.
