  1. Mine didnt work when I got my truck, I took them out and cleaned all the contact points in the lights, there is a little roller in there made of metal that is also a contact. Just clean them up and re try, thry should work, or search the forum here for DIY replacements with other types of lights. I think one was from a Porsche!, The contact in the door switch too should be cleaned too. Theres no reason you can't get them working!
  2. When I saw "4.7" I was thinking Chrysler 4.7 V8! But a stroker 4.7 is just as good!
  3. Ive had the same problem trying to find a bed for a friends yota, I see one posted, and call, and the jerk at first acts like he doesnt know what I'm talking about, then when he realizes, the dang bed isnt even anywhere where it can be looked at to be bought! What the frick did they list it for sale for then! Stupid people! Oh and my friend had first dibs on my 87 MJ, but passed it up and told me about it. I bought it, and havent had any problems, and hes been regretting it ever since! And since that time, hes rebuilt the engine and trans in his yota, and borrows the MJ when his is in the shop. I figure I owe him that much! :brows:
  4. Does it really have a 4.7 in it? We need to see a build thread for that!!!!!!!
  5. Welcome to the club! We always love having new faces in here! But many of us are old timers, and find it very difficult to read texting language. Could you please please please type evrything out. I know for sure that there are some guys that won't even respond to such a message, making the Comanche Club a smaller resource to you. There is such a huge knowledge base here that I would hate to see it getting shorted to you for not fully typing. We love to see a new generation of guys loving and caring for our dear trucks. There really never has been anything else like them. As for your problems...looks like you have a great start so far getting it going. And yes, there are going to many more problems you are going to encounter bringing it back to life after sitting for five years. Just read everything you can from these pages and the builds in the projects section, and you will find everything your heart desires. There have been members who have used similar products like Rhino Line to cover their trucks. A guy that works in the body shop where I work just did it to his 2dr Cherokee and it looks great! There are several products on the market, some better than others, so when you are ready for it, start a new thread, or use our search function, and you will find what members have had good and bad luck with. And we absolutely love pictures! So if you can, post some for us. You will be loved by all if you do. Good luck getting going, and keep us posted!
  6. You may want to consider valve seals too. If they are worn, with 200K they probably are, replacing them may help.
  7. Not worth the hassle. Youll need to change the whole driveline including the front alxe to make what you have work, as the Chebbie is passenger side drop. Sell the blazer and buy a Cherokee donor with everything youll need, or just find a used 2.5!
  8. What di9fference is it going to make going to a non full time trans case, if you don't have a disco front axle? With a non disco, all your bearings and pinion are still going to turn anyways! Whats the difference? Swap in a new front axle and call it a day!
  9. I did this to my 87 Comanche 2.5. The bracket was already there for the pump, but with just an idler pulley in the place of the pump. Get the correct pump for your application and the correct hoses. The steering box will just be a direct swap, the steering shaft should be the correct length already. Bolt up the box, bolt up the pump, add the lines. If you have a 4.0 the resevior will mount to the pump, if you have a 2.5 the resevior will be remote mount. Your best bet would be to find a complete setup in the junkyard and pull it all yourself. That will get you aquainted with all that you will need to do to put it in yours. Use some quality fluid, and a bottle of Lucas Power steering stop leak and youll be all set ot go. Good Luck! Edit: If you buy all new, you will also need a pulley for the pump. I could not find an aftermarket pulley anywhere for my 2.5 pump. I had to get one through Chrysler restoration parts through the dealer. Also.. no one carrys a resevior for it either.. not even chrysler... Junk yard is your friend! I modified a resevior from a Caravan and it seems to work OK, but I think an original would be better. Here is a pic of my Caravan resevior. I made the mounting bracket for it, and ran the hoses. You may on may not need to get a new serpentine belt also. And the rest of the steering linkage should be the same. If you buy a new or rebuilt box, just transfer the pitman arm over and youll be all set. If you get a junkyard box from a Cherokee or Comanche, it should be correct already, just make sure they look the same. Good Luck!
  10. Just re read whole thread. Have you checked the color of the spark you are getting at the plugs? Maybe spark isnt strong enough? Just another idea. Spark should be strong and blue white in color. If it is yellow and won't jump very far, then maybe you need a new coil.
  11. Previous poster wildman says 34-39 psi. If you have pressure, then you may be looking at an electrical issue, or timing. The computer may not be telling the injectors to fire. Have you done cam and crank sensors? I don't remember. The cam sensor mount to the distributor if I remember correctly, and the crank sensor is on the trans belhousing.
  12. Cash for clunkers has allowed me to snag a few more parts for the old 87. I got a sway bar off of an XJ country. I got the rear bumper too to see if I could make it fit the comanche. I know its not a bolt on, but I like the look better than the step bumpers. I also took the trailer hitch off that XJ (XJ number 5 from our dealer that has been turned in for CFC). I also took the visors and clips, the rear overhead speaker bar. I also took a trailer hitch off of a ZJ cash for clunker turn in. I plan to see if I can make a trailer hitch between the two of them to fit my truck, at the same time as fabbing the cherokee bumper. This is all in addition to the Wagoneer front end including doors with power windows, locks and movable vent widows, chrome front bumper, radio, cig lighter, clock, seat belt ( to fix my broken one ), skid plates and overhead console. Ive got some work to do! I also bought a 2.5 longblock from the classifieds here for a future rebuild. Ive only been into the Comanches for two years now and now Ive got parts coming out my ears. History is repeating itself I guess... 10-15 years ago it was Volkswagens... everywhere! Theyre getting too expensive now, and working at a Jeep dealer I guess has its perks for my current infatuation!
  13. With the key on engine off, the pump will initially run for about 1-3 seconds and shut off. It will not cycle on and off with the engine not running. After the initial pump up, the computer then looks to see if the engine is turning or running and will turn the pump back on to keep up pressure. If the engine stalls the pump shuts off... this is a safety feature. The only way to keep the pump running with the engine off is to jump the fuel pump relay to keep power going to the pump. This should allow you to test pressure with the engine off. And replace the fuel filter just because... to eliminate that as the problem, they don't cost that much. You should be able to hear the pump run in the tank also if you are real close. If it is running when jumping the power to it from the relay, it could be that it is no longer building enough pressure, of there could be a bad hose in the tank running from the pump motor itself to the pump bracket where it exits the tank. That would be a cheap easy fix. If any of the other hoses are bad, this one could be too. As for how to jump the relay... first find the fuel pump relay. Pull the relay out. Some of them have little diagrams on them to show where and how the power is routed. You need to find a short peice of wire stripped at both ends and bent into a U shape. Look at your relay and see how each pin is related to it connector and jump across the two terminal numbered 87 and 30. This will send power to the pump. Just don't let it run too long with no fuel in the tank or for any extended period with the engine not running. I hope this helps. Good luck!
  14. It can be the cause, but that doest mean that it is the cause. I would start there first. With the truck sitting on the ground, have a friend turn the steering back and forth and look for movement. Replace anything you see move. Also look at the frame around the steering box for cracks and breaks. good luck!
  15. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
  16. The guys here at work are kidding me about adding the woodgrain to the truck, but I really don't think I will be keeping it. And one thing that has me dissappointed is that the trim above and below the woodgrain has little wholes drill their lenght to keep the trims on. One thing Ill have to address when I finnally paint would be filling those little holes. I did used to have a Grand Wagoneer, so Ive done the woodgrain thing once. Now its someone elses turn!
  17. I saw a silimar ad on craigslist in my area for a lady who needed mechanjcal work done on her car. Desperate times call for desperate measures!
  18. The lever on the valve should be close to the three oclock position, or level with the ground as looking from the rear, this may help your braking putting the arm in the correct position.
  19. Maybe you could have a roll bar made that the front part is a normal hoop, but the back legs come down to rest on the top of the bed sides instead of the wheel wells. That would leave you room to still drive the quad in and still get the look you want. Just my opinion!
  20. I got the front doors, and fenders today. At some point they will go on my Comanche. Maybe by this winter or during this winter Ill get all my stuff put on the truck including the 4x4 conversion. here's some more pics. THE DOORS AND FENDERS AND THE POOR BASTARD IT ALL CAME FROM AND ITS PERFECT INTERIOR Cash for clunkers claims another rust free XJ, one of 4 on our lot, not including 2 ZJ's WHAT A WASTE
  21. Do you know why it won't run yet? Electrical? Engine internal? Fuel system?
  22. Here are a couple pics of some of the parts I took off of the Wagoneer. The grille, bumper, and skid plates. I'm going to try to get the front doors with power windows, locks and vent windows too, and probablt the right front fender with the power antenna seeing as how mine in crushed in. Too keep this tech, is it very hard to wire in the power locks and windows, Ive yet to do a search because I don't have the doors yet. Thanks Guys!
  23. This is what weve had to resort to.....
  24. I found my camera, I'm going to get pics tommorow, maybe even do the swap too if I can sneak the truck in the shop. We havent been very busy so should be no problem! :brows:
  25. Best Ive ever used have been Delco's. I'm not a GM person at all, but Ill take me a Delco battery!
