Help..no spark after motor change
dasbulliwagen replied to sinkrun's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you swapped also, you could have busted the crank sensor where it goes into the bellhousing while installing the motor. Pull the sensor out and see if its broken....and replace it while its out anyways if it isnt broken. If I remember correctly, the new ones come with a peice if cardboard on the end of them to set proper air gap to the flywheel, when the engine turns over, the cardboard is ground off by the flywheel and proper air gap is established. Good luck! -
I just fixed a durango with the 4.7 in it with the same problem, it was the crank sensor. It would crank for a long time, sometimes act like it was out of time, and then when it did fire up, the idle would go up and down, eventually stalling out. Just my 2 cents, and I know not a 4.0, but its all relative.

butterfly/ vent window removal
dasbulliwagen replied to 88pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
At the bottom of that track there is a bolt, 10mm. The door panel will have to come off. You may also have to remove the window to get it out... or maybe not, I just know its a pain putting it back together though. Good luck -
I don't know anything about your car specifically, but in most the window motors all ground through the driver door switch assy. You can go to alldata.com and buy a 1 year subscription for the service info on your particular model for like $20. That would give you all the wiring diagrams and troublshooting info you need. In a lot of the Jeep Grand Cherokees, there is a wire in the door harness at the hinges that likes to break and will cause this same problem. I think Autozone also sells these subscriptions to alldata, but If I were you I would call and ask them first. I think the autozone website has a link to buy a subsciption too. Good Luck!

I thought you made that word up.... until I searched it. Yup youre right a Jeepney.... wonder how it got to norfolk?

My GF's 12 year old daughter told me the other day that she wants her first car to be a stick, wants nothing to do with automatics. My daughter will be 1 year old next month, but when it comes time, she won't have much choice. And yes, a stick does make you a more alert driver, kinda like riding a motorcycle... if youre not alert on one of them, you arent going to last very long.

Reminds me of the Toyota FJ55, which is about that long, but I couldnt find any pics of a truck version like this one, and the front end is wrong too. The front end looks like the early Willys pickup version, but the rest of it is too big. Who knows. Is there anyone who can go look at this thing and tell us exactly what it is?

Everything I have is stick, and I intend to keep it that way. Do you know how hard it is to find a new car anymore with a stick??? Its horrible! When I bought my 05 Hyundai Tucson, it was like pulling teeth trying to find one with a stick, and then the salesman only want to sell you the V6 with the automatic. And kids nowadays don't even want to learn to drive one at all. I don't understand it. Sticks get you better gas milage, better reliability overall, and are more fun! And I heard something recently, maybe it was on here, that many auto manufacturers are doing away with sticks altogether because their computers can control emmisions better with an electronically controlled automatic. If it has an auto, I won't buy it, and I will seek out those that still do... except for GM products that is.

I don't know about them being more expensive than Toys, but my current Jeep addiction is definitely cheaper than my VW addiction. I guess it doesnt hurt me either being a Jeep dealer tech running into cheap or free parts quite often. Jeeps are definitely cheaper than a lot of things we could be into, and it also depends on what you want to do with em, and if you don't mind playing with used parts. -
I could use it as a DD, but more often it is just easier to jump in one of the Hyundai's and just go, but sometimes it will get driven on a daily basis, depends on how I feel at the time. I just bought a baby seat for it so I can drive it more often too. And now that I think I have my 68 Beetle sold, I may want to drive it more often as it will be my only "fun car" to drive.

CRL Slider Rear window - ?
dasbulliwagen replied to Go4Lo's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Urethane is the glue you refered to for the front window. It is what is used to install windows like that that don't have the rubber gasket. It is a thick rubbery black tar looking stuff that is really nasty if you get any on you. -
I'm in the process of making a fitted fan shround for the WJ electric fan I am installing in my 2.5 MJ. I'm using 2 seprate 2.8 V6 fan shrouds cut down and epoxied to the fan unit itself so it can mount to the original radiator mounting holes. I hope the 2 part epoxy holds up OK. I bought an adjustable temp fan controller, and plan on doing all this when I replace my leaky water pump. I'm curious to see how much of a difference it will make with no crank driven fan in there.

If he only paid $50 each for them, hes robbing that dealer blind, scrap price paid to regular people is at least double that if not triple. But I have to have respect for someone like that with their own business making a good profit.... at least someone is. Not that it is any good that he will want to screw the next guy, but business is business and you are there to make a profit. Now the Katrina cars is another story.... all of those should have went right to scrap, no ifs, ands, or buts. Reselling one of those cars is ripping someone off. That guy should be publically whipped for something like that.

Not selling the whole vehicle may also be the yards rules, many yards won't sell complete vehicles for whatever reasons, especially newer ones. Just saw on one of the spike shows where they are putting a dodge drivetrain under a 70's Ford body... they said that thee yard doesnt sell whole vehicles, but made an exception for them. Maybe a liability issue?

I have yet to get to the point of swapping in an 8.8. But go to therangerstation.com, and you should be able to find that info. -

You may know stuff about the yota axle already, but I think it would best to stay away from it in an MJ, Too many other good options available. -

car-part.com will bring up any number of 8.8's with 4:10 and limited slip for $300 and up, or pick-n-pull for half that. -

The 8.8 also has the right bolt pattern for the wheels. -

Where in NC are you.... just curious. Never seen anyone run a yota rear, the ford exploder 8.8 is much more popular, and can be had stock with 4:10 and limited slip and disc brakes. -
Try removing the fan and keep the pulley in place and see if the noise goes away.

I know this isnt a real MJ, but it may be the part you want to look at. I would like to do something like this myself, but with MJ taillights, I like the look of the Cherokee rear bumper better than the original style step bumpers. Hope this helps!

I don't know what to say.... I'm just glad someone else realizes it too. That place is a cesspool and I hate having to go there every week. Their selection sucks, the produce is horrible most of the time, and all the ground beef has old gray meat hidden in the middle of it. But the prices are better than anywhere else and the wife won't let us go anywhere else because of that. And the people of wal-mart........ :ack:

According to the rules to blow them up, you are not supposed to run the engine more than 2000 RPM while going through the procedure. I'm sure that was meant to avoid throwing pistons through the hood or into the driver seat. Someones gonna get hurt, and the govmnt aint gonna take responsibilty, having set the rules for safety sake. People are frickin stupid!
