Rotted frame. jack stand points?
dasbulliwagen replied to smithe1811's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you use something like a 2x4 between the jackstand and frame it should spread out the pressure enough to let you work, but after you get it set up, I would jump and jostle it a bit to make sure it looks like it will hold up before crawling under. Good luck! -
armour instead of cab corners?
dasbulliwagen replied to dunl's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you are doing sliders, what are you going to do about the bedside lowers? You can't tie the cab and bed areas together, and the bedside lower itself isnt that strong. And what sense does it make to make cab sliders and not continue all the way back to the rear wheel well? If you do the lower edge of the bed it would require a lot of extra reinforcing to make the area strong enough to take the abuse a slider might have to take. I am wondering about this, because I did not see any mention of it in the previous threads. Just want to make sure you are covering all of your bases here. I know it can be done, but it will take a lot more than what is being shown on the XJs. Good Luck though! It will be interesting to see how it comes out! -
Nice find! Sorry to go off topic, But is that a Puegot?

My X parts truck had no chrome, but had bucket seat interior with full center console, AC, Power steering, tilt column. Who knows what the X really means. With Jeep of that time period, it could mean anything!

The westy top conversion will be cool, but I want to see it with all the syncro stuff on it, maybe lifted, and doing some articulation poses!!! I used to have a 1959 Microbus Panel, lowered, with a 1776cc type 1 engine with dual 48mm CBPefrormance fuel injection, Big valve CBP 044 cyl heads, 1:25 ratio rockers, electronic fuel injection, serpentine belt system, and chrome everywhere. The things you can do with these VWs probably is equal to or even larger than what all you can do on Jeeps! Gotta love it. If I had a dig pics of my 59 Id show you. Keep us updated on it!

How is it not running well? What is it doing/ acting like? Could be something as simple as an O2 sensor. When I got my 87 2.5, it ran like crap too. I put through I don't know how many cans of fuel system cleaner, a tune up, etc, with only minor gains. I finnally decided to slap an O2 sensor in it just for kicks, and Oh what a difference! Its been running great since. Let us know whats going on and maybe we can help you not have the expense and time of doing the swap...unless you really want to!

Ive seen pics of a BMW painted with it before, looked really cool, you just better be sure your body work is right, because you will see every imperfection!

That part also bumps up the idle when the AC is turned on, if you have AC. I also have an 87 2.5 4spd, I swapped AC over, and wired everything in, and was suprised to see it move just enough to bump up the throttle when the AC kicked in. Good Luck!

Ive heard that there may be issues putting a 4.0 in an 86, but from what ive seen, its nothing a sledge hammer can't take care of. Just keep and eye out for a donor XJ 4.0, maybe even 4x4, and swap it all over. I myself am kinda woking on doing the opposite. I'm swapping all the 4x4 stuff, axles, trans transfer case from an 86 2.8 MJ into my 87 2.5. I know its not the same without doing the engine swap like you want to do, but oh well. What kind of ongoing problems are you still having with the 2.5. I know of the oil leak blowby issue, but have you found other problems since the last post in the other thread?
-
Technically, it will bolt in, but, unless you have a 2.8 donor to swap all parts from, or all of the 3.1 wiring harness and computer, or a carburated intake manifold, carb, etc to make it run, it would be more work than trying to really fix your 2.5. Youd be better off finding another 2.5, or get a whole cherokee 4.0 donor vehicle cheap, and swap everything over. Sorry to hear youre still having trouble, but I don't think the 3.1 will be worth the time and effort to do it correctly.

I guess you might think that from what you see, but those are notes and instructions for my essay class. My thesis topic is Gun Control: The Right to Keep and Bear Arms. My final paper is due in about 3 more weeks. Are you for or against? NOTE: Your answer MAY be used against you if your opinion differs from mine.

Just got the new factory Mopar magazine, and they have a part number for the factory rebuilt stroker motor PN P5155210 It says "fall availability". I had parts try to run the number to get price, but they don't have one listed yet. They do show model year application as being the year 2050! The mag also shows a front bumper to be available this fall for the XJ. Looks to be a winch mount style, no part number on that though! Also listed is a 6.1 Hemi conversion for the SJ, with a 545 trans, Rubicon Rock trac transfer case, and Rubi axles with long arm kit. Interseting stuff!

I decided to search the Chrysler internal website, found the following info for oil in the AX15..... Gear Lube/Oil Part Numbers: 04897622A$ Issue Description: For XJ Vehicles only: 04897622AA is a 75W90 oil. 04761839AC is 10W30 oil. The 04761839AC is recommended to be used in place of 04897622AA for improved transmission shift properties. ______________________________________ Contact Us at CAGRIS@Chrysler.com for feedback related ONLY to this GPOP Tech Tip. There have been several threads on here adressing this problem on the 4.0, but the 2.5 is very similar. You may have a problem of the valve cover itself getting clogged too. I have an 87 2.5 and it doesnt have that huge plastic thing on the valve cover. Mine has this problem too, but not to the extent your does. I have yet to try to fix mine, but I need to do something soon. One thing you could do, is go to the junkyard and find the newest 2.5 cherokee you can find, pull its valve cover and COMPLETE crankcase ventilation system, and maybe even the airbox assembly, and all vacuum control hoses. Make note of where everything attaches and swap the system into your truck with a new valve cover gasket for the year 2.5 you got the valve cover from. You should be able to do this fairly cheaply if you go to a picknpull. Another thing that may be wrong is that you may have a hole in one of your pistons, and nothing you do will help this problem. Or you could rig up a breather assy with a vented jar or whatever. Just search the same problem on the 4.0 and you should find any number of backyard fixes. I see in one of the pics, you also have a PCV valve in the front port of the valve cover. Check to see that it is working as well. Remove it and shake it, if it rattles easilly, it should be OK. And make sure it is routed correctly for proper operation. To many of the guys here on the board, the only way to fix anything wrong with a 2.5 is to swap in a 4.0, Please don't get put down if you don't have any responses within a few hours of posting. Eventually we all get around to going through the threads... so be patient. Hopefully someone else will ring in on this subject as well! Good luck, and let us know what you find out.

Probably an AX4 trans if 4 speed manual. The oil you mentioned should work fine.

I'm sure theres someone on here that wouldnt mind having the bed off of it either. Sell the bed, and make back all the money you paid for the truck.! REMOVE THE TAILIGHTS AND KEEP THEM FOR YOURSELF IF YOU REALLY PLAN ON FINDING ANOTHER MJ!

I too have the Silvertstars. After having the old dim ones, they were a HUGE improvement. I can only imagine how good they will be with the wiring upgrade. You can't go wrong. -
You may have a broken belt in one of your tires. Happened to me once on a long highway trip. I had to turn around and drive back going no more than 35 MPH. It sucked.... check your tires for a huge hump being out of round. Times 2 on the driveshaft U joints too, will have the same effect....

You need to put the kickstand up! Oh, wait a minute, thats just motorcycles, sorry.
-
Instead of a mockup, why not do a couch/loveseat? you could make the tailgate the backrest and have it adjustable so it tilts a little, make the lights light up... maybe even mount the whole thing on a couple of off road tires!!! Sorry to hijack. :hijack:

The new 3.6 direct injection engine will be replacing all chrysler V6 engines eventually. It probably won't go into the wrangler until they do the next redesign. At least thats what they told us at Chrysler tech training. If you want that engine in a rubi youll probably have to wait a few years. Like has been previously posted, the 3.8 is a good solid engine, the only problems Ive seen is under full hard heavy compression, the right side of the front axle can make contact with the oil filter and punch a hole in it causing all oil to pump out, but Ive only seen this on jeeps that have been put into the ditch causing severe damage, including bent front axle and body damage. Sister in law has one, and has had no problems. Good luck on the rubi buy. If I was to got one, it would be a rubi!
