  1. I think I remember seeing something like that, but I have no idea where it is. Or maybe it was the center section from a CJ grafted to an MJ tailgate.... i don't remember, Id like to see that again too.
  2. The 4.0 are usually good for 200000 or better depending on how well it was kept up. They are a great high milage motor as long as the oil is changed regularly. They will have their share of oil leaks, but nothing that can't fairly easily be taken care of. I'm sure there are a few on here with even more than 200k on the clock. being a dealer tech, I see a bunch of cherokees, and grands with the 4.0 that people will just drive the wheels off of them with the trusty 4.0 still going strong.
  3. Looks good, but you should probably do something to tighten up the canvas a bit to keep it from flapping too much while driving down the road. If it gets to flapping too much, it will tear itself apart. Cool though!
  4. If the XJ is too small for you, you won't be happy with the ZJ as they really arent that much bigger than the XJ. Especially with three kids. You need something with a third row! The WJ is a little bigger, but with three kids, its going to get hairy in the back seat..... I'm sorry to say, but it may be minivan time! :ack:
  5. There have been several threads on here about bed swaps. If you do a search you will find lots of good info. Do you have a short bed or long bed? For the short beds I have seen that 93 up Ford rangers will fit pretty close with some mods to bolt it down. I have no idea about the long beds though. If yours is a long bed, it might be time to take a trip to the local junkyard with a tape measure and a not pad. You caould also post a wanted to buy thread in our classifieds, Good Luck!
  6. You say this as if he is the next coming of christ! Maybe he thought he was on that level, but to most of us, he was just another screwed up celebrity. Yeah its horrible that he died so young, but with as much money as hes made and squandered, most of us really don't feel any sympathy for him. One could say that he is the product of todays pop culture, but that doesnt give him or any other pop idol a free pass to act the way they do. I guess the bigger part of that problem is that soo many people support these idiots and just keep on enabling them to behave that way. Makes me want to go live in a 10x10 cabin in the woods and write a manifesto!
  7. 1800 does sound high, but some people think these things are jewels, and you can't tell them any different. It does look like a nice truck though. My 87 2wd has 342000 miles and still going, also a southern no rust baby, but not as pretty as that one. Print out the KBB page, show it to him, and then tell him youll give 1000 for it just to be nice. I wouldnt go much higher than that though, its really not worth that much! good luck!
  8. As originally set up, there is a flimsy hose that goes from there to the bottom of your air filter housing, where it connects to a vacuum controlled valve that when the engine is cold, it will pull warm air off of the exhaust through that hose to warm the engine up faster, after the engine is warm, the vacuum closes the valve and it pulls cold air in from another point on the airbox. Not sure about the smoke, maybe oil burning off from a valve cover oil leak? Or a cracked exhaust manifold? Fix your vacuum leaks, and see if that helps, if not you may want to do a compression test, or pull off the cat convertor and see if that makes a difference in power...may be plugged up. Timing could be a problem too if it was recently rebuilt? Did you say the PO rebuilt it? I can't remember and didnt see it by scrolling down. You have several areas to check. Good Luck!
  9. I agree with sir sam, most junkyards will have a 30 day warranty. They mark their part to know its theirs if it comes back. Then you pull another one and start over again. Good luck!
  10. Yes all of the dash wiring will have to be swapped. Why not convert to 4wd while you are at it. if you already have all the parts?
  11. If you swap a complete 4.0, then yes, ALL AC peices will work in your MJ. Youll need the engine, trans, all wiring in engine bay and dashboard, radiator and core support, transfer case, have a new rear diveshaft made, front axle, rear axle too if gearing isnt the same, and if you do swap the rear axle, youll need to have new spring perches welded on to be able to mount an XJ axle in an MJ  . Just gut the 2.5 of everything and swap all of your donor vehicle parts over including the AC. Good luck!
  12. Ive had the same problems with trying to buy truck parts on craigslist. These guys post an ad with their phone number, and when you call them, they act like you are bothering them, and barely know what you are talking about until they realize what youre talking about, and then its I havent pulled it out of the woods, or I have to bring it from another town when you want to see what it is they are selling. Stupid people! I hope this all works out for ya! I know what its like being in Michigan and drooling over a rust free classic vehicle. Not that I ever had any till I moved to North Carolina. :brows:
  13. All the interior parts will bolt over, but you will need all the right mounting brackets for the engine, the correct condensor and receiver dryer. The condensor is different between the 4.0 and the 2.5 because of the radiator and core support. The AC lines coming from the firewall may work but don't quote me on that. You will need a donor that has the 4 cylinder. I suggest you do this yourself, because when I did it, I had a junkyard get me the parts and I think the brackets came off of a different year 2.5 as mine and the compressor didnt line up just right. I think the compressors themselves are the same though as long as you have one with the same style pulley. Back to the interior... you will want to pull the ac controls with the HVAC housing, and all the HVAC housing wiring. That is the next stumbling block... the wiring. The HVAC housing wiring I pulled from a 2.8MJ just plugged right into an existing connector in my 2.5 in the general area right behind the radio. The underhood stuff needed some wiring added though. I found an unused connector near the washer bottle... 4 pin connector that has all the wires needed to get the underhood side working with the pressure switch and the compressor clutch relay. Somewhere on here is a downloadable factory service manual that will show all the original wiring diagrams. It was very helpfull. That 4 pin connector is listed as where you would hook up dealer installed AC. If you need more help, PM me and Ill try to get pictures of what I did and what stuff looks like. Good Luck!
  14. Did the glass guy do ALL of the damage in the picture? I guess I just understood it at first that it was just the part that has the hole all the way through. If he did all that damage, and the dash was in an uncracked, unbroken condition before the winsheild replacement, I now see your point more clearly. I agree the kid would have to have been a dense idiot to not tell something like that was happening, and there is really no place for a sawzall attachment to be needed to do a job like that. Any proffessional glass guy knows that you take your time and be careful doing that stuff. Sounds like this kid just thought he could do it this way quicker and be done with it. The faster way is not allways the right way. And if the owner is getting pissy with ya, yeah its time to play hardball. GO GET 'EM CHEIF!!!
  15. Babies-r-us $59.99 I saw one in the store yesterday but didnt have a camera, so I found a pic of it online. It says it only goes to either 25 or 28 pounds. My daughter is 8 mos and at 22 lbs now, so I'm not sure how long she would really get to use it before she is either too big or walking already by herslef. We will see!
  16. That is soooo perfect!!!!! :rotf: I just made that my screensaver!
  17. I'm sure at some point in the near future I will be buying one of these.
  18. I understand the position youre in and how you feel, but considering the original condition of your dash before being broken, I myself would probably just try to call the balance even. If it does go to small claims, or even to insurance, they will claim that the dash was bad to begin with considering age and condition of not just the dash, but the entire truck. You may not even come out ahead if the judge side with them even just little bit. I knows theres no denying that they did it, but you need to consider both sides and if the whole process will even be worth it in the end. You were planing to recover/ replace it anyways. I'm ot trying to side with the glass company, but I think you should just cut your losses and be done with it, instead of taking who knows how long to resolve this and having to continue to worry about it. Just my opinion.
  19. I know why you posted this line, but it is really nobodys business but yours. You should not have to justify doing something to your truck even if it does cost you something. Shtuff happens, then you die...get over it. You are a tremendous resource on this forum because of your experience, and I would hate to see something happen that would make you not want to return. I hope everything gets resolved peacfully and without incident for all of our sakes. It would be a great loss for all of us to lose you. Sorry if I hijacked!
  20. Exactly how did Chevy put your mind at ease about their loosing the franchise and their future plans for another business? Just curious. I myslef have heard way too many "stories" about what they the dealership plan to do, just to see nothing ever happen. For your sake, I hope they are right and everything is cool. Good luck!
  21. What color is the smoke? Maybe you have a bad headgasket, allowing water into one cylinder causing power loss. You might want to check that next. I guess I should ask where the smoke is coming from first. If it is all coming from the engne area and you replaced most gaskets already then I would start by power washing the engine bay clean, then run the engine to see where the leak is coming from. Good luck.
  22. YOU MEAN WIFES ARE ALLOWED TO COOK TOO!!!!! I need to go have a talk with her! :fs1:
  23. WFC... you come up with some of the most interesting tech questions! I love it!
  24. You better make sure its not one of the GM dealers thats getting the axe next year when their contract runs out!
  25. I think we may have lost muddymj. Doesnt sound like he was too happy. I hope he comes around though, there was really no harm meant, I'm not even sure what happened as to how his OP wasnt responded to for over a week. PLEASE COME BACK!!! :dunno:
