Removable bedsides?
dasbulliwagen replied to comanche 88's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah it sounds like a good idea, but it really isnt practical, and to do it right will take more fabrication than it is worth. It will be a much larger job than you think it is, and it will never be right if you try to put it back together. -
I want to do the same thing on my parts truck if I ever get around to building it. If you do a search on here and in the the projects section, you should find plenty. I copied every pic I could find to my other computer for future reference. The bed on my 86 is pretty dented up, so I really don't feel too bad about cutting up a rust free box. I too will want to re attach the original end section for the tailights and tailgate.

I enjoy your enthusiasm. I couldnt see myself tackling a project like that at my age now, but I have been there, many years ago, working on a freezing cold garage floor with minimal tools and numb fingers. Ive been in the gravel driveway with no help too. I hope you don't lose interest in it because I like seeing it getting done. Good Luck!

I finally got around to installing my Wagoneer front end. I sure am glad I don't live in an area that uses salt on the roads in the winter. First I pulled the header panel off. The nuts holding it on looked pretty rusty, but they came right off. I pulled the black front fender flare off the old fender in order to put it on the new fender to replace the caved in one. I broke one stud on each of the three flare support brackets. I think if I would have taken a little more time with them, I wouldnt have broke any. But pulling the white flare off the new fender, all the nuts came right off no problem, no fight. I installed the power antenna first, then set the new fender on and lined it up to the hood. The Wagoneer header has studs built to the header itself, and my 87 has the studs welded to the fenders. That wasnt a problem with the new fender, but the original left fender had to have the studs cut off and drilled out. Swapped all the original bracketry over from the old header and the Waggy header slipped right on. The connector plugged right in and everything worked except the horns. The 87 has the horn woring outside of the header harness, the 86 Waggy header has them built in, so I just cut off the horn connector and adapted it to the original horn connector and mounted the dual horns. I notoced that the horn had two wires coming to it from the harness, and later found that one of those wires goes to the right side front of the vehicle next to the vacuum ball behind the front bumper. That wire would have been for a second horn had I known about it before I made the other modification. Oh well. After getting the header buttoned up, I put on the chrome bumper, then the XJ country sway bar. I looked at bolting up the front skid plate but was running out of time at that point. Here are the pics ... Before.... After... And my 87, my 86 donor, and the boss's 88 Olympic edition

Lower Control Arms-is this a good replacement?
dasbulliwagen replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If I was going to replace my lower control arms, theres no way I would go back with stock replacement units unless they were free. I agree with the WJ replacements. The WJ upper arms are also the correct length to replace your upper arms and are built much better. I have a whole set that I will install when I finish my 4x4 conversion. Let us know what you end up doing! -
Yesterday I installed a factory AMC Electronic tuning AM/FM cassete radio that I pulled out of a 1986 CFC Wagoneer, though I don't have speakers wired in yet. I also installed a cig lighter, and a quartz clock for the same vehicle. With the clock, I found the factory plug for one in my 87, but the connector was different so i spliced into the wires and hooked in the original connector. The clock worked for about two minutes, long enough for me to set the time on it and test the lights, then it just went dark. So much for that. And today I went into work to put my wagoneer front end on. I got it all installed along with a power antenna and chrome front bumper. Also installed a sway bar from a Cherokee country. I have yet to drive it enough to see if I can tell any difference. Ill give more details and before and after pics in my build thread " Comanche Limited".

Here is a pic of Gizmo suffocating me sitting on my chest. He is one of 8 we have. Gizmo, Enzo, Blackie, Conlan, Topaz, Saphire, JD, and Beckham. All of them were picked up as kittens and except for Gizmo and Enzo, they used to be up for adoption through a local rescue organization we worked with. We put close to 40 cats and kittens through our home in the last 6 years. Sorry I don't have pics of everybody on this computer. Which one is the baby? :shake:

Looking for a Marine Heater
dasbulliwagen replied to pitbull4x4's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Look to see if your heater bypass valve is working. If the cable has come disconnected in the closed position, you won't get any hot water to the core. -
If it is a carbed motor, it should bolt right in. The CPS mounts in the trans bellhousing, so assuming you don't swap the trans you should be fine. Just swap over all the accesories from your original 2.5 including intake and exhaust manifolds, and you should be fine.

I hold my animals in higher regard than I do most people, including some family members. Putting my childhood pet down was the hardest thing Ive ever done. I laid in bed for a whole week after that, and moped around for a whole month after that. I feel for ya. Its just gonna take time.

Growing up I always hated charcoal cooked food, because back then eveyone I knew put about a gallon of lighter fluid on the coals to get them lit and all the food tasted like lighter fluid. But a couple years ago I decided to buy a charcoal grill from lowes... don't know tha brand, but they have these chimney coal starters now where you don't need to use lighter fluid... fill the chimney with my favorite hardwood CHUNK charcoal, put a couple peices of newspaper with some vegetable oil drizzled on it under the chimney, light it and 10-15 minutes later you have hot coals! You get the smoke flavor without the lighter fluid. To get back on topic... I didnt pay enough for this grille to expect it to last forever, but my leaving it outside in the rain doesnt help anything. It is holding up well though, the only bad spot on it is the lower shelf which I think I will replace with some wood slats sometime in the near future.
