See if you can find a diagram of all the vacuum lines and go through it and make sure all the lines are good and in the correct places. My old 86 Grand Wagoneer had this transfer case and there were a ton of vacuum lines. My new parts XJ also has the auto and NP228 selec-trac and Ive been wondering about adding it to my 87 MJ, so Ill be curious to see what you figure out. Good luck and keep us posted!

pedal-brake to hand-brake???
dasbulliwagen replied to wannabeMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It has been done, and I know ive seen it in the projects section, but its been so long since Ive seen it I can't remember who it was. A search might help, or someone else will chime in. Good luck! -
Any of you Canucks ever heard this guy before....

Wasnt he on the Red Green Show? :Canadaflag: -
You have listed now that its an 87 2wd, it has spindles and regular bearings... theres no reason that job should cost $500, I would get a second opinion if I were you, sounds like a rip off to me. I did this job myself not that long ago, parts alone should be less than $100 total, and even at $100 an hour shop lablor rate which is a high guess for rounding purposes, it shouldnt be any more than 1 hour per side. Go talk to someone else if you can't do this job, at least price out the bearings and seals yourself at a local parts store. Its not a hard job, just messy. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

I cringe every time I see pics of underneath your truck..... its sooooo horrible! All the rust! I'm glad I don't live in Michigan anymore. All my brake lines are OEM and you can still break them loose if needed. I'm not trying to brag, but I'm glad I don't have to go through what youre going through. Good luck with the build!

Some 2wd models have the spindle and seperate bearings, and some have the 4wd unit bearing with a fake spindle put in place to hold everything together.... I'm not sure what years they changed that but by the price, it sounds like you have the unit bearing type, because the parts for the spindle type don't cost that much and are fairly easy to change. The unit bearing type arent horrible if you don't live in the rust belt, but still they can be a pain sometimes and the unit bearings are expensive....and in case you don't know what unit bearings are, they are a sealed pre-assembled bearing set that just bolts in place on the steering knuckle, held on by three bolts, which I think take an inverted torx socket that would need to be special bought if you are doing this yourself. If you put your vehicle model and year and drivetrain info in your signature it would be much easier for us to give you correct info too, just saying. Good luck, let us know how it turns out!

At ht every least for CA, youll need to make sure ALL original emissions equipment that was on there from the factory is in place and working properly, that includes the cat conv, the vapor canister and all its hoses, the O2 sensor, EGR valve...etc. You might want to find a phone book for where youre moving to and look up local shops that might specialize in Jeeps and give them a call so they can get you all the right info on what youll need to do. Second.... can you phsically move the vehicle side to side with it sitting parked? If so, lay under it and have someone move it like that for you so you can watch to see where the slop is coming from. Usually side movement involes the track bar, but you should experience DW as well.... who knows, but that would be a good place to start. Third... sounds like warped brake rotors, but you should be able to feel that in the steering wheel too. Good luck!

Finally after many months, I got around to adjusting the electric fan controller to turn the fan on at the correct temperature and turn back off. When I first installed it it would come on at 160 and stay on, now, it comes on between 210-215, and shuts off between 190-195. Let me know if you guys don't think this is right, but seems right to me. Its in my 87 2.5.

If its anything like North Carolinas testing, even with emissions only, there is still a safety and tampering inspection built in, and the PCM VIN and vehicle VIN need to match and all. The only vehicles that don't get inspected at all are ones that are 35 years old or older. Safety and tampering inspections only up to 95, 96 and late get full emmisions, safety and tampering inspection. When I say tampering, I mean that all original emissions equipment needs to be in place and working properly including cat converter.

can anyone help me out?
dasbulliwagen replied to STERLING STINGER's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
 hehehehehehehehehehehehe -
Most states have provisions for this type of thing, assuming all original emmisions controls were tranfered from the vehicle the engine came from. You may need to do some research, but it should be able to be done, assuming the swap was done correctly according to state guidelines. Call a local hotrod shop and find out what they do in cases like that. I'm sure there is someone who can set you in the right direction to get this thing legal.

42oz Steak? Are you refering to the Grille House in Michigan? Been there done that! And got the T-shirt to prove it! I agree with MVF being junk, but its really not that bad in comparison to some other shows. And I can't beleive that shows like Springer are still on... What kind of people watch this junk enough to keep these shows on the air??? Nevermind... I know the answer, I just don't want to think that there are that many stupid people out there...just scares the hell out of me!

A ZJ with 250,000... is that miles or kilos? Still alot, and in a rust area to boot. I wouldnt go over $1000, and that would be pushing it...Oh and how does the US canadian exchange rate go? Might be worse or better than we think? If its worth it to you, then get it, an ABS ring on the rear might be big bucks, but its easy on the front. Let us know what you do, Good luck!

Speaking of Pawn Stars..... why do shows like that insist on having at least one friggin idiot on there...I speak of Chumley. I won't watch the show because of him... that and continually seeing people think that they are going to be paid full price from a pawn broker.... stupid people!
-
Why cut stuff up when you can just take it apart and see how it works....yes just a stupid way to make a new show.... I don't see it lasting long. Another one I think was crash Lab? was that the one where they basically blew stuff up and wrecked stuff in the name of (flawed) science? I watched the first couple episodes and saw how really flawed their stuff was and had to quit watching. I'm no scientist, but I have a scientific mind and always did really good in high school science classes. I knew when the stuff they were doing was being done improperly or wasnt thought through......ANYWAYS!!! I agree!

Ecotec Comanche?
dasbulliwagen replied to Worlds Fastest Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
For those of us not GM savvy, what exactly is the Ecotech? Just curious. Is it a 4 cylinder too? If it came with an Aisin trans are you assuming that getting a bellhousing from one would allow us to bolt up an AX4 or AX-15? Sounds cool if it would work, but then again, its a GM engine, and I'm not a fan of GM, though I am considering a 3.4 swap for a 2.8 MJ, but I don't like it, just the easiest option to go with. An Ecotech swap would be very involved, with all the emmisions, and computer controls, making guages work, though if it could be done, having OBDII would be great for diagnostics. Lots of stuff to think about! -
So...my wife's car took its final drive...
dasbulliwagen replied to beepbeepmyredjeep's topic in The Pub
I agree about getting rid of the tires and getting something different. We here at the dealership see complaints with them all the time. Remove them and sell them all while they are still new looking so you can get some money for them and buy a decent tire. I love that color too, but I don't think I personally would like it on my MJ. Good score! -
You need to re read the post.... he didnt move it, and he had noticed it in the area for three months before he even looked at it. If anything needed to be done with it, it should have been done long before he took the axle out of it. The roads dept that moved it should have had an officer take down its info and taken care of it.... and maybe they did. Maybe it came back not stolen and the police washed their hands of it. I think enough time had elapsed that our original poster is safe. I think myself that hes lucky someone else like a scrap hauler didnt get to it before he did!

2WD MJ Suspension Questions/Input wanted
dasbulliwagen replied to Trix's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
:agree: WFC took two beam front ends and basically cut the ends off of one up to the spring mounts, and the ends off of the other at the end of the axle, and stacked them on top of each other to create a drop front end and still have full springs for a good ride and better contol arm mounting locations for correct geometry. The rear is like you said with blocks to drop the rear, though depending on how far you go, you may need to reinforce and notch the frame. Theres another lowrider build on here, but can't think of his name.... he put a Comance body over an S10 frame and bagged it to the point of laying frame... it has a Wagoneer front end on it. Good luck and keep us posted..... and start a build thread!
