$65 total.... I think wal-mart has them in the $70 range. Good price though, and the cost of them came down way faster than other comparable electronics of the past. Like my 4 head VCR..... and the Star-tac phone I had.... that one really pissed me off! Oh well!

Are all of you guys going at the same time, or did you get to pick when you wanted to go? Sounds cool though, I thought if I ever took a cruise, I would want an Alaska Cruise!

I was watching overhaulin yesterday afternoon, and began to wonder what I would do to my MJ if I had an unlimited budget. This goes with the assumption that if we had unlimited budget we would still keep our beloved MJ's. I was windering too what any one of you guys would do as well. Post it up... your ultimate MJ! Mine... I would like to stick with 4 cylinder, I'm not sure why, I just like it... either the 2.8 diesel from a libby, or MOPAR makes a 4 cylinder block for Midget racing that you can get with a Hemi head, or a regular head, lots of potential there, just saw one built with turbo for slat flat racing that had close to 1200HP... that would be cool! For a trans, maybe a NV3550, or one of the newer 6 speeds. Atlas transfer case. For axles, I like those ones that have the tilted looking pumpkins, not sure what theyre called or if theyd even be practical for a truck this size or not, but they are freakin cool looking. 4:10, 4:56. or 4:88 gearing, not sure which yet, but whatever would be best with either some 35's or 37's on 17 or 18 inch wheels. Long arms of course, discs front and rear, black leather covered buckets and interior, Dakota Digital dash, 5 point RCI camlock harness', fresh white paint job. Stuff like that! I'm sure too, that for many of you your ultimate MJ would be any MJ that is rust free.... for the sake of this we will make that an assumption!

Poll: Does your MJ have the original rear bumper?
dasbulliwagen replied to beepbeepmyredjeep's topic in The Pub
It had to have one from leaving the factory. That plate light was on some MJ's from factory hidden up there... Rob L. My 87 Sportruck DIDNT have one from the factory. It had the light mounted to the bed under the tailgate with factory connectors. The Cherokee bumper is this trucks first bumper ever. The original owner made absolutely no modifications to this truck. -
I read that as 736,000, not 736k, as in kilometers.... funny I guess! That would be a LONG trip!

Cherokee rear bumper.... ....with custom made mounting brackets... -
:agree: Mine were the same way when I got it, cleaned all the connections in the lights and they work perfectly now, just take your time and be careful.

86 MJ 2.5L 5spd What to beware of?

:agree: -
You didnt really lift your MJ did you. I think that is just a pic you found of one the same color as yours... right? There are a few differences, inluding the Texas plate on the front. I'm not trying to be an azz here, just trying to figure this out as it has been bugging me since you first posted it. You wish yours was that big right? Yeah, me too, but like the others said, something would need to be done with that steering, and track bar! Maybe someday we can roll that high too!

Is the automatic floor shifter original? I thought all the MJ autos had a column shift? Just wondering!
-
I agree... maybe make it a two speed or three speed like a low range transfer case type deal 1WD LR!

Chrysler has little to no info for the 87 models. I ran my VIN for my 87 and it comes up but it won't give any details like the 89 and later models will. Your best bet would be if it still has a build sheet hidden in the door or under the seat. The generic VIN decoders won't tell you much. Sorry.

Emergency brake pedal not working..
dasbulliwagen replied to CHINOTJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
YJ jeeps have a similar set up brake pedal, but it may take a little fab to mount it up, but from what Ive seen it wouldnt take much. The factory still carries these new too as there was a recall on them. Did one recently is the only reason I know. Might be a reasonable alternative if you can't find a good used one. -
86 MJ 2.5L 5spd What to beware of?
dasbulliwagen replied to Jax2A's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Central Ohio? OHHHH thats a bad place to be looking for an MJ project..... they don't last too long after being exposed to road salt over the years, as I'm sure you know. If you have any connections in the south, you may be better off to find a southern project truck..... I have 2 right now, the first one even runs, and for the two theres a grand total of $375 in purchase price! Then theres the free XJ i got recently. I'm just saying if youre willing to travel, you can have a rust free truck for as much or less than what you would pay up north. Good luck though. You anywhere near Canton? My wifes family is up that way! -
As long as the JY gives you a 30 day warranty, go get one from there, take it to autozone or wherever and have it tested... if good, install it, if not, take it back and get a different one!

86 MJ 2.5L 5spd What to beware of?
dasbulliwagen replied to Jax2A's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My 2.5 has almost 344,000 on the clock, the original owner says that the motor and trans were repalced with Jasper units at 140,000... so that makes around 200,000 on the current strong running motor. This same guy recently asked me if he should replace the 4.0 in his current Cherokee because hes up to 150,000.... just because! There probably wasnt anything wrong with the original 2.5, so other than tune ups, and maybe a sensor here and there, you should be fine! Welome to the club! -
Trailer hitch delema
dasbulliwagen replied to specialkeay's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
There was another one posted receently about a universal hitch working perfectly, just search universal hitch. -
As much as I hate to say it, there just isnt a big enough of a market for an MJ only magazine. JP tries to cover all aspects of Jeep, and most XJ stuff applies to us as well, so that is where we are left.... trying to skim any XJ info that may apply to us from wherever we can find it.

A friend of mine had a similar situation, but with a carpet store. She bought some carpet for her house, and when we went to pick it up, there was more than she had ordered, but they didnt want to cut it off, so they told us to take it all for the agreed amount. 6 months later the carpet store calls her up and says she owes them so much for the carpet they didnt want to cut off. She pretty much told them it was their own doing and that they could go screw themselves. People are screwy anymore! What can you do!

^^^^^ If you ever need that Jeep worked on, give me a call!

Which states/countries have you visited in your MJ?
dasbulliwagen replied to beepbeepmyredjeep's topic in The Pub
Sincee in my possesion, I havent had it more than 50 miles from home in NC, But the previous owner, he bought it new in NY, I know that he lived in AZ for a while and Back to NC, but he said he had driven it all over the country. It had 336,000 miles on it when I got it.... so he really drove it...original owner too. -
If your grey seats are in good shape, go get some spray fabric dye in the color you want and spray it. Or get some of the Krylon plastic paint, paint the seats and then brush the paint into the fabric so it won't be crunchy. The vinyl parts are plastic, and the fabric parts are probably polyester or nylon, so spray away!

Speaking of "smaller diesels" Dodge is coming out with a 5.0 L V8 deisel for the half ton pickups within the next year.... I know its not really a small diesel, but one more diesel is better than nothing.

All went well driving to the VW swap meet, and I sold almost everything, making almost $400!, On the drive back, much lighter, in the middle lane of a 3 lane interstate... brand new smooth road, and out of nowhere.... DEATH WOBBLE!!!! I cut a guy off in the slow lane trying to make it to the shoulder. The wobble stopped, and I slowed down the rest of the way home. I had replaced the track bar while swapping in the front axle with an almost new one I had laying around but was unable to get a cotter pin into it, so I'm hoping maybe it just came loose and it will be an easy fix. I also have an adjustable track bar from Pro-Comp, but couldnt install it because it looks like Ill need to drill out the tapered hole for its new bolt for the heim joint. I'm hoping I don't need new ball joints yet. Time will tell.
