exhaust / brakes
dasbulliwagen replied to SchneiderFishing's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Clean rotors, new pads, and stainless braided brake hoses will really make an improvement... the brake hoses themslves should give you better pedal feel by themselves. -

I'm not here to defend adoption agencies, but after working with one for several years, they do have their reasons for being very wary of people. Ive seen too many horror stories of animals getting adopted and then being mistreated or abandoned after the owner decides they are tired of taking care of their new pet. Sometimes the people would do the right thing and return it to the agency, we had a no questions asked return policy. But most times they would just get dumped to fend for themselves. So it makes the adption people very persnickety about who they give their animals to. To the point I guess that it can go too far.... any little thing they think will make you a bad person, weather real or perceived will make them sway toward not adopting to you. I was never one of the interviewers but saw it all the time as it was often one of my foster animals that was in question for adoption. Stereotyping people is just part of the job, because you are usually correct about it. But in persoanl experience, the ones youre wrong about on first impression often end up being the best people. I'm sure thats case with you, and I hope you find what youre looking for. Good luck!

should i chance the drive?

Another thing that should help with heat is some water wetter added to your cooling system.... supposed to help heat transfer by breaking the waters surface tension.... all the drag racers use it to cool the cars off faster between runs. There are several brands of this, just do a search. -
Ive never seen rattle can exhaust paint that really lasted any length of time, but then again, Ive never done the curing method either. But like you said, if its gonna rust anyways....

I know its sad, and they may be rare, but they are not collectors items.... at least not yet. Our trucks are as much a collectors item as a Cadillac Cimmaron is a collectors item! Its like the early mid 70's cars are now collectable, maybe our trucks will be in another 10 years. But not right now.

Is it a waggy with the solid read rear tails? Rob L. I didnt know it was a waggy because the front end and fenders are gone, and the rear hatch, bumper, and lights are gone,,,,like I said... not that it matters. Would have been nice to have spares for my front end on the 87!

rear brake proportioning valve
dasbulliwagen replied to shawn's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
:huh???: Something doesn't sound right. The main brake line to the rear goes into the valve section of the rear valve, the second line going to the rear is for emergency stops, and will send braking to the rear bypassing the valve... both should have full fluid in them, and t-ing them together just makes you have two fluid lines going to the rear, one that will provide pressure when the pedal is used normally, and one that provides presssure in a panic stop, T-ing them together and then going out to the axle just eliminates the rear valve, and full pressure goes to the rear brakes all the time instead of just in a panic, and will be doubly used if there is a panic. Does that make sense? Maybe I can draw it up in paint if I need to. This way you don't have to mess with the front valve or eliminate any lines, or block anything. Works fine too! -

Most likely internal, sorry! And yeah, while its out, do the clutch too.... can't hurt. For the slave though, spring for one from the dealership....should ne much better quality and shouldnt give any problems any time soon. -
As I was installing my 4x4 front axle for the conversion, I noticed that my front brake hoses were in terrible shape, so I replaced them today with some YJ stainless hoses I bought a while back. I can't beleive that between the new hoses, new pads, and new rotors how much better my brakes feel! Its great.... I wonder how good the brakes would be if the rear valve was disconnected? Or if I had the WJ master that I want to do! How much better can it get?!?! And my DW problem is still there, it happened to me twice today, so up on the lift it went with a guy inside... the TJ trackbar I installed when I put the front axle in will move 1/4-3/8" each direction at the axle connection...like the rubber bushing is way too soft or something. And I couldnt notice it by looking, but my outer tie rod ends are slightly loose, I can feel it moving by putting my hand on it when I try to push the wheel back and forth. I'm sure thats not helping things either, but the trac bar bothers me, so I went and bought a 5/8" drill bit so I can install my new Pro comp adjustable trac bar. I ran out of time to install it today, but Ill get it tommorow. And I guess its time to keep an eye out for better, or new tie rod ends! Oh also found out that my new parts XJ is actually a Wagoneer XJ, not that it matters, but I found out that the front axle is a non disco! Still can't read the tags on it, maybe Ill take some sandpaper, a flashlight, and a piece of cardboard to lay on to look at it tommorow to try to figure out what gears it has.... COME ON 4:10's!!!

rear brake proportioning valve
dasbulliwagen replied to shawn's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
What I did with the Boss's truck is T the two lines together at the rear that would have went into the prop valve, take the third line off the T to the flex line to the axle..... same basic principle, one of the lines was emergency braking to the rear, the other was normal braking to the rear through the valve.... they both start out at the same point, I just ended them at the same point. Simple. -
The Nissan deal fell apart when Chrysler went into bankrupcy, but it wasnt Chrysler buying Nissan, it was just Nissan getting the rights to rebadge a Dodge fullsize. I too am glad it didnt go through, but because I can't stand Nissans. The current Nissan full size is not selling well, and they were hoping to save money by getting a good platform that is already being made elsewhere to help thier truck line. Its bad enough that Mitsubishi is taking the already ugly current Dodge Dakota and making it even uglier! There were also rumors very recently that Hyundai was looking at Dodge trucks to rebadge for Hyundai trucks to expand thier lineup. But there seems to be no truth to that one, so far. This is off topic isnt it...... sorry.

Arent they already actually building those for overseas military? I think they are.... so its not like they couldnt give it to us if they wanted to.

clutch pedal needs to be "pumped" ??
dasbulliwagen replied to shawn's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Internal seal leaks at either the slave or the master sounds like. Youll probably need to replace both.... it should be external slave, so should be no big deal.... you won't need to pull the tranny! -
Are you sure its coming from the bellhousing? Try taking a long screwdriver touch it to the bellhousing and then hold it to your ear... it will act like a stethescope. Do this on the bellhousing, the trans, the engine block, and the cat converter. I'm thinking maybe when you took the exhaust loose you may have busted the innards to your converter and they are bouncing around in there with the exhaust flow. Another thing that will work to narrow down the sound is a 2-3 foot section of 3/8", or 1/2" rubber tubing held to your ear and then put near whatever may be making a noise, near, not on. Hopefully it won't be anything bad for you. Maybe this will give you a chance to gut your converter! Oh and I just remembered that some clutches come with a packing clip that would need to be removed before installation.... but I'm not sure if that applies to our trucks or not.... I just know it was an issue with the VW's I used to work on. Good Luck!

dasbulliwagen replied to bikerdude661's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
go to www.car-part.com put in what you need and in what area, and it will come up with junk yards that have what you need. Might be a good place to start, might even find one for a comanche that will bolt right in. Good luck, let us know what you end up doing.... welcome to the club! -
Looks like it finally got pulled! Oh well.
