got the 86 truck in the shop after sweating my buttocks off bolting the rear axle back in, and re attaching the steering assy so it could be dragged in easier. Pulle d the 87 in at 10 this morning an put them both on lifts and to work I went with swapping the front axles for my next step in my 4x4 conversion. Worked on it till 4 PM nonstop just to drive it out of the shop and 1/4 mile up the road to realize that I didnt put any oil in my "new" front diff, so I turned around pulled back in and filled er up. Sorry to those looking for a locked up diff....NOT THIS TIME!!!! I have put a few miles on it around town so far, no problems, and its loaded up now to make a 45 minute trip to a VW swap meet, drag race, and car show tommorow morning first thing..... I hope my front brake lines hold out as they look horrible. That should be my next update, and maybe a pic for MJ's earing their keep!

Fuel rails don't give many issues, and it is unlikely that there is any problem with yours, just get a bottle or 2 of Berrymans B12 Chemtool from the auto parts store and soak your rail if you think it might be gummed up, but unless it has been sitting not running, and the rail dried up with old fuel in it, you probably won't have any problems, just install your new injectors with new O-rings properly installed and youll be fine.

Something I've always wondered...
dasbulliwagen replied to beepbeepmyredjeep's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
When you close the door of a vehicle, a higher pressure can be created inside, causing ears to pop or be uncomfortable, the things you speak of cover cab vents that allow this extra air pressure to be released. Most cars have these mounted elsewhere, either in the door jambs, or in most trucks they are in the back of the cab, between the cab and front of the bed. -
Which drivetrains should have 4.10 gears?
dasbulliwagen replied to bighause's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
This is a guidline for MJ's. which as we all know are few and far between in junk yards, XJ's will be slightly different, but your best bet would be in a 4 cylinder XJ, youll just have to confirm the gears when looking. -
Engine problem 2.5 5 speed with 4X4
dasbulliwagen replied to wranglercory's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
:agree: One up to temp, the computer starts reading the O2 sensor instead of relying on programmed values. I would start there, also coolant temp sensor for computer. I'm not sure that there are any other things that would cause temp related problems. Good luck, let us know what you figure out. -
Ive always wondered about that too.... with the 4x4 conversion, PS, AC, and other upgrades Ive done to it. I have to have raised the value some! I mean a 4x4 is always worth more than a 2wd.

dakota light mod
dasbulliwagen replied to STERLING STINGER's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
As Mr. Horse says from the Ren and Stimpy cartoons, "No sir, I don't like it." It just doesnt seem to fit right or look right. With the gap at the tailgate side it makes it look like its sitting crooked/slanted. I think I would stick a trailer light in mine before going that route, but thats just my opinion. Its good to know that someone has tried it though to see if it would work. -
Fender flare paint removal
dasbulliwagen replied to airspeed's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
They should be black plastic underneath, but it will be next to impossible to get the paint off of them, just remove them, scuff up the paint real good, clean with a good solvent, like laquer thinner, and spray with your choice of flat or satin paints from any number of stores. Youll chance ruining them if you try to remove the paint. Traditional paint removers will eat up the plastic, and the strippers for fiberglass are made for fiberglass, not ABS plastic. I wouldnt risk ruining them if I were you. Especially with as rare as the rear flares are to find. Good luck, and post us some pics when done! -
Jeep Trailduster..... coming to a dealer near you.
dasbulliwagen replied to dasbulliwagen's topic in The Pub
I'm a dealer tech, and Ive never seen a 2wd JK wrangler. I have seen 2wd TJ's though. And the new Liberty is not based on the Nitro, its the other way around. If you look underneath an early Liberty, and a new Liberty, it is almost exactly the same, The Nitro was built on a Liberty platform, they just have similar body styling now. The upper bodies were redesigned, but the lower chassis area is still the same old Liberty. -
NEVER US AIR TOOLS ON LUG NUTS?????? What in the world? This guy has obviously never been in a production auto repair shop. Ive never had an issue, but I follow a few simple rules. 1. Never start lug nuts using an air gun...always start them by hand. 2. Never tighten lug nuts onto the hub with an air gun unless you use a torque stick that has been calibrated to your gun and shop air pressure. 3.ALWAYS use the correct size socket to avoid rounding the nuts or their flimsy caps... that also goes towards using thin wall sockets when needed to avoid damaging custom wheels. It can be with no problem if youre careful and know what youre doing.

Back to OP, If the guy just showed you his gun, thats called brandishing and is illegal, and he said he had a badge, but didnt show you? Either he's impersonating an officer... also VERY illegal, or he knew he was in the wrong as well and didnt want to chance getting in trouble himself. And if him cutting you off was for some legit reason, I think he would have either arrested you, or cited you on the spot.

904 transmission/driveshaft
dasbulliwagen replied to creekscout's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Did some research on 904's yesterday, and also saw that they were 23 spline. -
Finally adjusted my electic fan, not running so much now, only when needed. Was informed yesterday that my 86 Mj project vehicle will need to be moved soon from its parking place behind the dealership, so this weekend it will get dragged back in the shop so I can swap the front axles between it and my 87 to continue the 4x4 conversion. I also need to bolt the rear axle back in the 86 as it is curently sitting unbolted over axle out in the parking lot. And the front axle isnt sitting on any springs so it is resting on the bumpstops with its azz in the air! I will be putting my 87's beam axle in the 86 with a set of JK springs Ive had laying around just to see what happens. This truck is too rust free to junk, so Ill have to go begging again to see if I can park it next to the recently aquired 86 Cherokee.

No I don't think it was ever a recall, because it wasnt that much of a safety issue. -
exhaust leak/ new exhaust
dasbulliwagen replied to zzze's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You probably have busted exhaust manifold studs at the very front and very rear of the cyl head. It is very common and Chrysler has a tech bulletin for this with new studs, nuts, torque value and a plastic spacer. Either that or your EGR tube gaskets have gone bad, or like my truck, and have the Crankcase fumes running in a tube dumping out under the truck before they make their way back into the cab! -
Jeep Trailduster Coming in as Jeep’s entry level model and somewhat replacing the Compass, is a Fiat Panda derived Jeep. Built in Toluca along the the Fiat 500, the Trailduster is more than just another all wheel drive econo-box. http://www.allpar.com/cars/chrysler/2013/

Its OK lenard, I believe you! Good job, and keep it up!

Either that, or its the other type.... "That things a collectors item! I couldnt let that go for less than $8000. It been sitting there since 95, should just fire right up and drive anywhere!" I hope for you, and us, that that is not the case. Good luck!

Off topic I know, but we need some details about that truck in your sig...... how it was built, how you got it so low.... stuff like that. I'm very curious. Do you have a build thread? Not that I would build a lowrider MJ, but I would still like to know. My last project was a slammed 68 VW Beetle, and before that was a slammed 59 VW Microbus Panel van, so Ive done the lowrider thing and still love to get build details... let us know!

904 automatic transmission interchange
dasbulliwagen replied to creekscout's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you have both out, set them side by side and make sure all the stuff is the same, like the driveshaft flange and tailshaft housing... might be of a different length, you may also have to keep the torque converter from the 2.8 as the 2.5 one may be different. And I'm not sure what year the AMC 2.5 came out because the mail Jeep may have had the GM 2.5 which is a different engine and I don't know if the bellhousing is the same or not. Good luck and let us know what you find out.
