Georgia's 4Wd Conversion On Hold: Kid Playing With Cell Phone
FrankTheDog replied to 1987Comanche's topic in The Pub
Sorry for your loss, she looked like a beauty. -
I have a 96 XJ, it still has the obd l flash code system even though it is obd ll. I've also had 4 other 96's that worked the same way. So, it's not bad advice at all if you don't have access to a scanner. I use the allpar.com obd l chart to determine what the code is. Did you try the speed sensor in all four positions? Try that first. If it isn't that it may be a busted wire leading to the sensor. Like it says for code 15, the problem is in the sensor or in its circuitry.

Did you try the speed sensor in all four positions? Give that a try. You may have it in the wrong slot. Do you know how to check the codes for the check engine light? Cycle the ignition key on/off on/off on and count the flashes of your check engine light. More than likely the code you will have will be the speed sensor not sensing.

With my wife's 92 XJ the vacuum canister was busted and the PO siliconed a coffee can onto the busted end and made a hole for a vacuum fitting. When I acquired it the can was rotted out. Put a new cannister in and all was well.

Rear Drum Brake Size
FrankTheDog replied to ajohnson928's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
WMS to WMS is 59" to 59 1/2" depending on who's posting. Explorer wheels have an inch less back spacing than jeep wheels. Ranger and explorer rims will work on a XJ MJ axle as long as you open up the center hole 1/32. -

Yes all 86-89 are 10". But Dana 44's are 2 1/2" wide. Dana 35's are 1 3/4" -
Like above, any dog that does that should be put down.

I don't care for cats, I'm a dog person. But, I hope that cat at least clawed an eyeball out. Glad to hear the dog was put down.

For spark plugs put the stock Champions in it. No other spark plug will work any better. -
Tre And Ball Joint Advice Needed

I have stock Spicer parts on XJ's that have been driven over 250k. Put what the factory put in there. -
This truck had been listed on Albany NY craigslist for several months at $12,000 IIRC.

What's the wheel mount surface to wheel mount surface dimension on those? I know Chevy van 14 bolts are 70" wide.
-
You're not going to like 35's and 4.10's with 60's. You're adding about 750 pounds by going to tons, at least. Plus the weight of the links and new heavier crossmember. So say a thousand pounds plus the heavier tires. Your overdrive will rarely be used. Friend built an XJ with tons, four link front and rear, cage and was running 36" swamper SX's and his weighed 5500 pounds. He runs 5.13's and they feel just right. I'd say you want at least 4.88's for gears. I ran 4.10's with 32's and they were right on. 35's are a lot bigger.

Is This Acceptable?
FrankTheDog replied to onlyinajeep726's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The 97 and up heads usually don't have the port on the back drivers side of the head but the boss is there and you can drill it out for 1/8 NPT. Some early 97's still had the port. -
Hey! That's my truck! Well, except mine has a little errr a lot more rust. And mine is 4wd now. Paint is the same though, burned off. I think that is what they call sage green.
-
That seems high but I saw a 67 set up exactly like that as far as color and body but with a 232 and 3 speed stick shift sell for $3000. All the old timer did was pull into a garage with a lot of Jeeps in the lot and asked the guy to come look at his truck and make him an offer. The truck didn't have any straight or rot free panels on it and it was used as a site truck and for plowing. It was beat to hell. So what do I know about the value of old Jeeps.

4Wd Swap Needs Done Asap, Need Answers
FrankTheDog replied to Dando's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
car-part.com is not a parts store, it is a website put up for junkyards to sell their stuff. They collectively have probably torn apart a million or so XJ and MJ's. -

I don't know how accurate those years are for the TC bolt patterns but I bolted a AW4 out of a 96 into my 92. TC bolted up and wires plugged in. car-part.com says 87-97 will work, that's from the Hollander interchange manual. I don't know what the difference is from the 98-01's. 87-96 are bolt in and plug in. www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1053970 will link you to a good thread with a ton of AW4 info. That thread is by Kastein, a member on here. -
Check the lug nuts. Mine did this the other day. Daughters boyfriend had tightened that wheel back up after having it off several hundred miles ago while she was driving it. Neither of us rechecked it after a few days driving
