yes, those ratios are perfectly compatible. :thumbsup: the difference in number is caused by the difference in gear sizes in bigger and smaller axles. the Dana 30 and Dana 44 have different numbers of teeth and that's as close as the manufacturer could come to the same ratio. other examples are 3.07/3.08 and 4.10/4.11

do you know for sure if the brake lights went out at the same time?

is the t-case linkage adjusted properly?

checked the fuses? if it's a manual trans, is there any fluid leaking out and running down into the fusebox?

the aussie locker only replaces the spider gears and is pretty easy to install. lockers that replace the entire carrier unit (like the Detroit and the ARB) require re-setting up gears and is quite an involved process. track bar bracket just unbolts. still not sure why your 242 would make noises only in a turn if in 2wd. guess anything's possible though. rebuilding it is about as easy as a rebuild can get. :thumbsup: http://www.drivetrain.com/parts_catalog ... np242.html

I've been running a stainlesssteel band clamp on a butt joint under my 88 right in front of the muffler (ever since the cheapie autozone pipe rusted apart and dropped my muffler onto the highway back in like '99). has held up to DDing and wheeling just fine. :thumbsup:

KJ 8.25s work too. YJs only came with Dana 35s. and ZJ dana 44s should be avoided due to problems usually associated with their aluminum center section.

other strong axles that can work are the 97+ XJ 8.25 and the Explorer 8.8 (95+ have disks).

or you might be able to find a wide muffler clamp. it's a stainless band that does the job of the tube and the 2 regular clamps in a single unit. http://i01.i.aliimg.com/photo/v0/456835 ... clamps.jpg

crankshaft position sensor (CPS) will do just that.

all AX-4/AX-5s will have a 21 spline output. finding a 21 spline output 242 can be pretty difficult because they only came on 87-90ish XJs with select trac. You'll want to swap the shifter handles and shift towers between your AX-4 and the Wrangler trans. My guess is that they will swap directly, but don't know for sure.

I would slap in a main leaf from an SUA truck (cut off the eyes and add it in under the current main) and add in the longer shackle. Might even add in another leaf from that junkyard pack, depending on how sagging your packs are. I do believe that HellCreek makes an AAL that is essentially a main leaf minus the eyes. comes with new center pins and clamps. Be sure to closely inspect your old packs for broken leafs.

I am literally on my way out the door to grab a 2.25" ID adapter from Autozone. It's essentially just a short piece of tube. Be aware though, that they rust out pretty fast. stainless units and stainless clamps should be available on the internet.

specifically a 2.5L XJ. any year MJ/XJ/TJ 4wd 2.5L/5spd will work. double check the gears before buying, but most were 4.10.

I don't have an image of it, but I'm pretty sure it only hooks up one way. :dunno:

did you install the linkage bracket that attaches to the underside of the body?

so after all that, the throttle still sticks. grrr.... but the XJ the TB came from had cruise and the cruise cable bracket gave me a perfect spot for an additional spring and now it works fine. :D

try jacking up the front axle, turning the steering wheel, and then rotating the tire.

excellent. :D then tomorrow I should be able to wrap up one more thing on the 90 and get that much closer to driving it. maybe 2 if I can borrow a corded drill (the battery on my cordless is preventing me from drilling where I need to) p.s. having a spare parts vehicle around is AWESOME!!! bought it for the engine, and so far it's given up brake parts, throttle parts, wiring parts, steering column, etc. (engine is still there though)
