it was a fun project. :D added some Jeep emblems to the backside. (and a cap for the spare tire :D ) yes, that hood emblem was what you thought it was. :D the headlights/taillights are not yet functional. I'll get to that later. but the LEDs are installed inside. bought an aftermarket battery and installed it under the seat instead of in the engine bay. now the engine bay can be a trunk of sorts. I also added a trickle charger so we can just plug it in at the end of the day and it'll always be topped off.

it's not what I would call bad now, but there was only a tiny hint of it before and it's now in the seams and under that upper frame support. places that I can't easily reach. I still hate me.

at this point, road salt might have been better.

on a whim I sprayed the floors on my rust free truck shell that's in storage. can't hurt, right? a year later the paint is dissolving off the floors and rust is setting in. I hate myself.

installed the battery today. everything is pretty much done except for the steering wheel. tomorrow we'll see what my nephew thinks of it. :D update photos will be posted tomorrow (ran out of sunlight tday). oh and it turns out the voltmeter doesn't work. :fs1:

I'm told they should be in store tomorrow. and I'll be back in town late on weds, so you should get an update on thursday on whether or not they are the correct coozies this time. :thumbsup:

my separation of tow rig and DD is less about money and more about knowing that my DD will never be put at risk by my playing on the weekends. also, if my DD does go down, I have a temporary backup. :D all depends on how far away is work and how important it is for me to get there.

don't just reply with the url, add a note with it. Like, if they say that such-and-such on the truck is bad, offer up the site as a way to help them fix it. :thumbsup:

older half-tons suck. modern half-tons can be VERY adept at towing. They just can't carry any cargo in the bed because the springs are insanely soft. check the tow ratings before dismissing them all outright. :thumbsup:

pulling the shifter is probably the right way to do it :yes: , but my peugeot trans got stuck in gear on the side of the freeway I ended up kicking the shifter out of frustration. popped right out. :dunno:

the new battery arrived today!! sneak peak of the new rollbar I'm making. :D I think it looks much more "jeep" than that silly PW bar.

don't remember. they only had like a quarter mile or less to the finish line of that stage when the fuel pump died.

I was a bit overwhelmed when I started looking into new flashlights. they are quite hi-tech these days. check out that candlepower website. I'm sure there's a flashlight out there for everyone's needs. :D they go up past 2500 lumens for the big ones. :eek: not sure if anyone can buy this particular one now. even the manufacturers website shows they are out of stock. :( did I somehow buy the last one? that seems a bit odd. :dunno: glad I didn't wait any longer. :banana:

few years ago I watched a rally car end its race with the co-driver sitting on the engine bay spraying a starter fluid can into the intake hose to keep the engine going. where there's a will, there's a way. :D

"simpler" is a relative thing. the carb trades wires and sensors for jets and tiny linkages. just gotta pick your poison.

you should also check the condition of the harness connector behind the driver side rear tire.

sounds like a simple question, but with my particular light it's not. It automatically steps down the brightness after a few mins at 740 lumens to protect itself from heat and again after 30 mins at 400 lumens, so the highest setting with continuous run is 140 lumens and that does over 7 hours. 40 lumens goes 27 hrs and 9 lumens goes 130 hrs. I can turn it back on to its high settings immediately after it steps down, it's just not recommended. if you get a bit bigger flashlight you can get a longer continuous run of high output. I sacrificed a bit of continuous performance time to get a smaller package. Or you can think of it as I bought a regular looking flashlight that has some super powers :D I highly recommend candlepowerforums.com for research. There is a bewilderingly ginormous amount of info there and they seem very friendly. kinda the Comanche Club of flashlight forums, I guess. :) Among the things to consider when looking for a flashlight are battery type and number of batteries, throw distance (is it more spot or more flood?), LED temperature (not degrees, I mean the perceived color palate of the objects you're shining the light at), switch setup (where is the "on" switch, where is the "mode" switch if applicable, and how do they operate), cost (duh!), features (do you want a momentary switch? do you need the strobe effect?), etc. check out the "recommend me a light for..." forum.

you couldn't pay me to go to a carb. we have some of the simplest FI setups out there with only a few sensors to worry about. and with a multimeter and a printout, you can diagnose your troubles. we have OLD trucks. not a thing wrong with FI setups as long as you upkeep them. same as a carb.
