painting alum turbine rims

I've seen spray paints that do that. I think it was on the xtreme 4x4 show. -
I originally went with black too (being my fav factory MJ interior color) but changed it to red. a truck like that deserves more... pop. :D
-
I both love them and hate them for all the reasons given so far. :D

well, regearing an axle is actually a not-so-great place to start if you're doing the work yourself and it's your first repair. it' a complicated and involved procedure that you'll end up doing numerous times to get it just right. they aren't installed as much as "set up". to pay a pro would cast around 600 per axle. that's how involved it is. read up on the procedure and maybe find someone local that knows how to do it that's willing to lend a hand and a watchful eye. if you do it wrong, you can ruin the gears and bearings. an alternative is to find junkyard axles with 4.10s in the and freshen them up and install them under your truck. it can be much cheaper.

sweet! if only there were sidewalks where my nephew lives... ahhh, who am I kidding. he'll never go back from a powered ride. :rotf:
-
auto or manual? although, admittedly if I was paying for a gear install I'd run 4.56 gear either way. just don't spend a dime on upgrading a dana 35 if that's what is out back. invest in a better axle. heck, if it were me I'd find some junkyard axles from a later model XJ (dana 30 with bigger ujoints and one-piece shafts and a Chrysler 8.25) and build those up and then swap with the current ones.

now THAT'S what I'll be doing to mine. very nice! -
KJ. it came with a factory setup. we have an add-on unit in the PT that used to be in my van. I imagine if I needed to drive the MJ somewhere I'd just borrow it from the PT.

I do a lot of driving and love my sat radio. :D the stations are always the same everywhere I go. and it is best in places like rural GA, where there aren't exactly a ton of regular stations that suit my tastes.

It's a CRD libby. I'm pretty sure the jemlins were installed from the factory.

no need. the haunted-ness was of my own doing. After pulling out just about every fuse back when it wouldn't start, a couple fuses in the interior fuse panel (a pair joined together in a weird contraption) weren't pushed in all the way. it's all good meow. :D whew. was a bit worried there. :thwak: either way the spare battery is only temporary.
-
fuse is good. more weird things to report. the locks only work with the key on. the rear window doesn't work at all. and the gauges dance from left to right and back again each time the key is turned. it's haunted fer sure.
-
seems the radio is dead too. yay.

stripper-clean-sand-clean-primer-paint I don't advise the die grinder as it'll remove aluminum if you're not careful. -
95 v8 zj. what parts can I use?
Pete M replied to thejim42's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
that rear 44 isn't desirable for anything. the 35 is a better axle. and that's sayin' something. -
bad optima. went out and checked voltage drop when I bypass the starter relay and it drops to next to nothing. finally got my spare batt charged and installed and the jeep fires right up. yay? still not sure why I couldn't get it to start with the jumper cables. but that's another problem for another day. oh, and just in case anyone thought I was free and clear, now the keyfob won't work at all. wtf.
-
I looked up how to reset the libby computer (disconnect battery and turn key 3 times) with no difference. I'm now charging what constitutes my "spare" battery and we'll see if there's any change.
-
06 CRD Libby. ran fine yesterday. suddenly it won't crank. the dash lights flash and it beeps at me. thought it was a dead battery, but getting a jump and charging the battery has not changed anything. bypassing the starter relay just results in a feint clicking sound in the engine bay. no bad fuses that I can find. battery shows 12.8 volts. have run out of ideas. :fs1:

damn, that's some gorgeous country up there!
-
or maybe it fits our trucks perfectly and is NQR on the S-10. :D (probably not)
-
gear swap (axle swap, really). it's an instant kick in the pants. the 4spd 2.5s were undergeared from the factory with a 3.55 ratio

there's a lot of nasty little buggers crawlin' around on the ground in georgia. :(

see, I woulda thought that would have been just too much awesomeness in one location and that the universe would have imploded or something. guess the universe is tougher than I gave it credit.
-
just to add in another idea, easier than all that is upgrading the gearing with a 4.10 geared axle from the junkyard.

I was looking for something with hanks number and found a two-fur that I couldn't resist. :D google insists this is a photo of a 757. :dunno: I don't see it.
