  1. you can easily lock out high speed and reverse with a single screw and then bring them into play later once they've mastered driving around at 2.5 mph. and they are impossible to tip by a small child. they don't have the power to exceed any tipping point and they weigh a surprising amount for a chunk of plastic. on a side note, he took his brother for a spin yesterday. . :MJ 1: . I'm told photos are on their way.
  2. the 2.5L/auto combo was cancelled long before 97.
  3. car-part.com might be of help
  4. no problemo
  5. You definitely need a longer track bar at 4.5" of lift. any brand will do. notice that your front axle isn't centered side to side and one tire sticks out a bit more than the other.
  6. t-case drops are not for the front, they are all about the back, specifically the angles of the ujoints in the rear shaft. XJs and wranglers have short wheelbases and the angles of their rear shafts as you go up are severe enough to sometimes cause vibration. MJs have a foot more wheelbase than a cherokee and so the angles are much less and vibrations are rare. It is unnecessary.
  7. you don't even need one t-case drop kit. sell both. :D
  8. if you're still having difficulty, you can send the image to me and I'll take care of the rest. comancheclub@hotmail.com
  9. you are most welcome! that's what we're here for. (well, that and to feed our own MJ obsessions  )
  10. yup. a 98 could have had an earlier 8.25 swapped in to replace a blown dana 35. all 97+ 8.25s will be 29 spline, but not all 97+ XJs had an 8.25.
  11. I've seen spray paints that do that. I think it was on the xtreme 4x4 show.
  12. I originally went with black too (being my fav factory MJ interior color) but changed it to red. a truck like that deserves more... pop. :D
  13. I both love them and hate them for all the reasons given so far. :D
  14. well, regearing an axle is actually a not-so-great place to start if you're doing the work yourself and it's your first repair. it' a complicated and involved procedure that you'll end up doing numerous times to get it just right. they aren't installed as much as "set up". to pay a pro would cast around 600 per axle. that's how involved it is. read up on the procedure and maybe find someone local that knows how to do it that's willing to lend a hand and a watchful eye. if you do it wrong, you can ruin the gears and bearings. an alternative is to find junkyard axles with 4.10s in the and freshen them up and install them under your truck. it can be much cheaper.
  15. sweet! if only there were sidewalks where my nephew lives... ahhh, who am I kidding. he'll never go back from a powered ride. :rotf:
  16. auto or manual? although, admittedly if I was paying for a gear install I'd run 4.56 gear either way. just don't spend a dime on upgrading a dana 35 if that's what is out back. invest in a better axle. heck, if it were me I'd find some junkyard axles from a later model XJ (dana 30 with bigger ujoints and one-piece shafts and a Chrysler 8.25) and build those up and then swap with the current ones.
  17. now THAT'S what I'll be doing to mine. very nice!
  18. KJ. it came with a factory setup. we have an add-on unit in the PT that used to be in my van. I imagine if I needed to drive the MJ somewhere I'd just borrow it from the PT.
  19. I do a lot of driving and love my sat radio. :D the stations are always the same everywhere I go. and it is best in places like rural GA, where there aren't exactly a ton of regular stations that suit my tastes.
  20. It's a CRD libby. I'm pretty sure the jemlins were installed from the factory.
  21. no need. the haunted-ness was of my own doing. After pulling out just about every fuse back when it wouldn't start, a couple fuses in the interior fuse panel (a pair joined together in a weird contraption) weren't pushed in all the way. it's all good meow. :D whew. was a bit worried there. :thwak: either way the spare battery is only temporary.
  22. fuse is good. more weird things to report. the locks only work with the key on. the rear window doesn't work at all. and the gauges dance from left to right and back again each time the key is turned. it's haunted fer sure.
  23. seems the radio is dead too. yay.
