that rear 44 isn't desirable for anything. the 35 is a better axle. and that's sayin' something.

bad optima. went out and checked voltage drop when I bypass the starter relay and it drops to next to nothing. finally got my spare batt charged and installed and the jeep fires right up. yay? still not sure why I couldn't get it to start with the jumper cables. but that's another problem for another day. oh, and just in case anyone thought I was free and clear, now the keyfob won't work at all. wtf.

I looked up how to reset the libby computer (disconnect battery and turn key 3 times) with no difference. I'm now charging what constitutes my "spare" battery and we'll see if there's any change.

06 CRD Libby. ran fine yesterday. suddenly it won't crank. the dash lights flash and it beeps at me. thought it was a dead battery, but getting a jump and charging the battery has not changed anything. bypassing the starter relay just results in a feint clicking sound in the engine bay. no bad fuses that I can find. battery shows 12.8 volts. have run out of ideas. :fs1:

or maybe it fits our trucks perfectly and is NQR on the S-10. :D (probably not)

gear swap (axle swap, really). it's an instant kick in the pants. the 4spd 2.5s were undergeared from the factory with a 3.55 ratio

see, I woulda thought that would have been just too much awesomeness in one location and that the universe would have imploded or something. guess the universe is tougher than I gave it credit. :bowdown:

just to add in another idea, easier than all that is upgrading the gearing with a 4.10 geared axle from the junkyard. :thumbsup:

yeah, to drop 2" you'll need to use different leafs. keep your mains and it'll all line up. :thumbsup: also be sure that each leaf is properly supported. you can seriously bend the leafs if they hang out to far from the one below (especially the main).

Nope. that's perfectly normal in axles. because of differing axle sizes, the ring gear size change and the tooth count changes. manufacturers just get the ratios close enough to work. the difference between a 3.55 and a 3.54 is smaller than the difference in tire diameters. :thumbsup: there are limits though. 4.09, 4.10 and 4.11 are all considered the same ratio. but, for example, mix a 4.10 with a 4.30 and problems will happen.

it's a bone-stock, running camaro so it should be as good a price as any. looks like 6-800 based on the insta-quotes. I think dad will be pleased with that. between trailer rental and diesel, doing it ourselves could easily match that (plus the aforementioned 24 hours of driving). excellent :D

I see from your past posts that you have an 87/4.0. I know in 88 the 4.0 had at least 2 different alts with 2 different brackets depending on which level output the alt had. not sure on 87, but it wouldn't shock me to find they did then too.

there are some major differences in alts between engines, between years or even during the same year for the same engine. its possible you have the wrong one for your truck. like they said, we need more info :thumbsup:
