  1. not much in the way of drawbacks really. they give a small lift while retaining your current ride quality.
  2. www.youngstownautowrecking.com shows a 4.10 '99 but they don't list a price. http://www.affordableautopartsandsalvage.com/shows a 4.10 '90 MJ but no price and it's a CAD http://www.westwoodauto.com/shows a 4.10 '86 CAD XJ for an outrageous $325 which I'd hope is negotiable.
  3. hmmm.. that's a toughie. I doubt the 35 would be alive long behind a 4.7. I think it'd still be worthwhile to drag a floorjack and check it out. have you tried car-part.com for 4.10 front axles? 4.10 8.8s are pretty easy to find.
  4. how can 4.56 be too much gear if it came from the factory with even smaller tires? get them!
  5. Rick (xjs4ever) lives in Parker. or at least did last time I sent him stickers. I've visited him there, but admittedly I was just passing through and so don't know much of anything about the town itself (we were meeting up for a trip to Moab). oh, did I forget to mention you would be living just a day away from Moab?
  6. keep us posted on what he finds out!
  7. you also have a private message system built into the CC software. :D

    Thanks

you are most welcome! that's what we're here for. (well, that as well as feeding our own MJ addictions :D )
  9. try a thought exercise and tally up all the positives of the move that you can. dig deep, like all the awesome trails that are within easy driving distance or maybe finding a nice property or 2 near your family. then focus on them for a couple days and see how you feel. then do the flip side and tally up the positives of staying in Ohio and negatives of moving. focus on that for a couple days. might bring some clarity. I gotta tell ya, if it wasn't for the internet, I'd have had a much harder time of moving away from the place I've spent my entire life (near as makes no difference 40 years). But I can keep in daily touch with just about everyone I know up there. and we can easily plan get-togethers for when I return.
  10. did you try car-part.com? I see a LOT of 4.10s available in florida.
  11. that's why I went with the extra leaf. It's not exactly easy to work around the gas tank. plus I already had the extra leafs lying around. It's not perfect, but has worked out well for me. and there are plenty of guys running straight packs that haven't yet hurt anything from spring wrap. I'd try it with what you've got and add on from there if it presents a problem.
  12. I'm not in the "black arts" crowd, but it is one of the most complicated tasks you can do in a Jeep. It requires specialty tools, lots of time, and if you screw it up bad it can ruin the entire diff. It's not for the novice and so I can't bring myself to suggest it without a whole paragraph of ifs, buts, and caveats.
  13. take lots and lots of pictures as you remove each part from the XJ. pics are free and can be absolutely invaluable later on. I also suggest a factory shop manual (digital copy) combined with a chiltons or haynes. each book has it's strong points and some explain certain things better than the others.
  14. I totally understand. I had a home and decent life in michigan but then my sis and her family moved to georgia, then my parents and grandparents followed. so I gave up the house, simplified my life and kinda live in both states at the same time. Now if I was healthy enough to hold down a regular job, I'd probably have to choose Georgia because my little nephews are pretty darn awesome. bottom line is that if you can't find employment where you are, ya gotta go somewhere and being near your family in CO sounds like a decent choice. you'll have a good chunk of cash after your house sells and will be far, far from the land of salty roads. :D Just be sure to buy a place that has enough land to store all the rust-free jeeps you'll be finding. . :MJ 1: .
  15. but a new carrier requires a new setup procedure, which is not cheap.
  16. tis true. but also is a relative statement. the rest of an 8.8 is very strong. The 8.8 carrier is still much stronger than a dana 35 carrier and people still lock that up. plus keep in mind that the 8.8 is typically found behind v8s and under fullsize trucks. I wouldn't worry about it unless rock bouncing is in your future.
  17. check this out for adding fog lights: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f140/how-2005-2009-grand-cherokee-wk-fog-light-install-867728/
  18. because you can drop a 300 buck locker into an open carrier. you can't do that with a LS carrier.
  19. yup. need more info.
  20. personally I would go with the open and drop in a locker. all depends on what sort of driving the jeep will see.
  21. it's still a dana 35 and has weak shafts, weak tubes and a weak everything else. It's better to invest in an upgrade.
  22. found bits of my 90's. :( nada on the other MJs I've owned.
  23. KJ (02-07 Liberty) WK (05-10 grand cherokee)
  24. glad to hear it was something simple.
