that was my thought. the paint codes in the vin printout are not usually correct (mainly because chrysler keeps reusing codes for newer colors) and repainting a truck twice is a definite possibility. have you removed a door panel yet?

oh, they are notorious for failing and glitchy electronics. (not that any company in the 70s had a reputation for rock solid electronics )

front bumper might be the rare dealership tube bumper option? rims look like TJ era.

just don't forget that the 87-90 clusters will work in your truck with the speedo hookup change.

that's the thing, ownership hadn't changed yet. introduction of the 4.0 was the big change for 87. far as I can tell, chrysler branded parts didn't arrive until 89. I realize my evidence is few and far between, but it would appear they definitely upgraded the cluster board in 87. can't imagine it was due to faults though, as the 86 boards would still be like-new. guess it was a lucky improvement.

I've got plenty of clusters, 2 are full ones from 84-86 and they are the ONLY clusters in my stash that have board problems. something changed in 87.

ran a wire off the other cab lights (which are now euramtec or however it's spelled). everything is LED now, so power draw is minimal. there's a chance that the old windshield mount is wrong? I had the windshield replaced too and can't remember if the 97+ XJs use a different size.
