  1. the AMC 20 has a perfectly round diff cover. like basketball levels of round.
  2. that's a dana 35 you'll love the 8.8
  3. Love it! couple thoughts: -you can't legally tow any more than the truck was rated for at the factory. nothing you add can change that number. -nothing you're planning will need frame stiffeners of any kind. this is a truck, not a station wagon like the cherokee. the frame is plenty tough.

not sure. my guess is a reused code for something like a block heater. being an AK truck, it would make sense.
  7. I think we've all been there with that one screw or bolt that is a tiny fraction of an inch of clearance from being easy and thus becomes a huge nightmare. comes with the territory of working on trucks.
  8. talk to Jeremy. I'm rockin' one of his refurbs with the added AUX input. then I slapped a bluetooth dongle into the AUX for uber modernity (and yes, that's a 92 XJ radio in an 06 KJ) just don't buy a radio made in Korea. the ones made in Japan are superior.

easy, I hadn't deleted the paint description yet
  12. would this be a good time or a bad time to mention that a member very recently discovered that the relay cover clips might be a Ford part found on late 80s trucks? the picture on ebay looks remarkably similar but no way of knowing until I can get to a junkyard to confirm (I'm not paying 35 bucks to find out). fingers crossed for friday.
  13. the only way I can store them is upright on the front end. otherwise I can't deal with them. they are heavy and I'm only one dude.
  14. we shall see come springtime. starting to run out of room to store the things. not a problem I really ever thought I'd have.

    wood stoves

it's an art and a science. I really thought I had mastered the art side of things, but the past few days I've really struggled to keep a fire going without resorting to cracking open the ash door for fresh air. it was really frustrating. so today I took the back heat shield of the stove off and sure enough, the chain connected to the internal damper had fallen off. I'm not entirely sure what that chain moves inside the bottom of the stove (there's a separate chain for the thermostat flapper), but I repaired it and today's fire is roasty-toasty so it was clearly something important. part art, part science, and this time it was a science (engineering) failure.

with 31s he's going to want 4.56 at least. 4.10 was stock with 27" tires. whatever you do, don't regear a dana 35.
  17. ouch! yeah, I bet a house would be easier to live out of.
  18. If I can start selling them at 2k I'm rich!

bigger tires make your engine work harder and it'll feel like you lost horsepower. lower gear ratios (higher numerically) give a mechanical advantage back to the engine. finding the right ratio for your tire/trans/engine combo can give your Jeep quite the kick in the pant when it comes to acceleration.

the link in my signature has the method for factory brake bleeding. it's different than most cars so you have to do all teh steps or you won't get all the old fluid out. also in there should be links to the disk brake conversion
  21. the world is definitely different than when I was a kid. mostly for the better though. but yeah, I feel your pain on not getting a snow day. it was truly one of the best parts of being a kid!
  22. just a shadow
  23. yup. thanks for the heads up!
