    my 88 makes so much crank case pressure that oil spews out of every orifice when it gets above 3k rpms. but I've still never experienced what you're seeing.

    it's the weird contraption to the drivers side of the diff attached to the underside of the bed. has a swing arm that should be connected to the diff via a rod.

    I've spent weeks at a time in an MJ. (though I was waaaay closer to your age back then) but don't worry, the truck would be on a trailer anyway.

    is your rear prop valve hooked up to anything?

    Libertys are still cheap and are heavier. they make very good plow pushers.
