  1. Pete M

    Me new here

I find that extra funny since he ended up having to jump though an unexpected extra hoop when he signed up. :D
  2. Probably the same thing mine did; "What's that?". :D
  3. Ford D-60s are out there. :brows:
  4. The center receiver of my 88 (not the side clevises, those were designed for towing) will take anything your dozer can dish out. :D I bet I can pick up the truck with it. But with your brackets on it? I'd be willing to try it on the 86, but I doubt it'd make the trip.
  5. Heck no. :D It's incomplete and I'm very partial to the grill I made for the 88. (5.9 ZJ style)
  6. For a bending moment, you need to measure from the point of force application, namely the hook itself. I'd be slightly worried that the bracket might twist under high load. Not insanely worried mind you, just slightly. :D It's the natural engineer in me conflicting with the schooled engineer. (overbuilding vs. just strong enough to be within the factor of safety)
  7. I like it. Out of curiosity, is there any way to link the 2 brackets together? That'd make me much more comfortable with side pulls. There's still like 8" between the hook and the first bolt. That's quite a bit of leverage there. Don't forget to get hooks with the clips so the strap can't slip off.
  8. $750 US with like 15k kms on it. But that came at a cost, I purchased it trusting (not totally blind, but close to it) that it was what he said it was. I was able to hear it run and it purred and the valves under the cap are the cleanest I've ever seen (short of new-in-the-box). He couldn't find the paperwork and just now I'm getting warmer on the trail to track down the original company that built it. Hopefully they have copies of the build sheet and dyno printout. Today I talked to the shop that installed it and I'll be calling back tomorrow morning when the computers are on so he can look it up (in Canada, the 4th is just another day). Then I'll be able to call the original builder on Thursday (supposed to be out of California) and then I should have me answer. Plus later on I plan to use the AC components to fix my 90 MJ and the t-case is being kept until I am comfortable that the one in my 90 works alright.
  9. My trailer can't carry the whole thing and my garage can't store 2 complete vehicles at the same time. Plus the suspension and axle were gone and the seats and what-not were things he wanted to keep. I wasn't expecting to take the windshield and trans/t-case, but as we went along it became apparent that it was unavoidable. :dunno: Oh, and the uniframe was cracked in two (the big reason he was parting it out).
  10. I wasn't even looking for one, but a 4.6 popped onto the market and I had to take advantage of the opportunity. I had been planning on building one using a 4.0 and 4.2 that I bought a while back, but now I don't have to mess with all that. This engine will be going into my red 88. Step 1 was getting the half-XJ. It was negotiated that I was to get the entire engine bay contents and I felt this was the easiest and the best way to guarantee that I know where everything is once I start pulling wires. Jared and I hopped the bridge to Windsor and used his new toy (plasma cutter) to hack the XJ in half. Took a bit longer than we thought, mostly because we couldn't get the front seats out and had to cut around them and the compressor and plasma cutter kept blowing fuses. Then we loaded it onto the trailer and ran the gauntlet back to the States. I've been cleaning up the garage and prepping it to house both the half-XJ and my 88 MJ at the same time so the swap goes as smoothly as possible. Here I just backed the trailer into the garage so the local code enforcer can't complain about it. (my driveway is technically "public property". and trailers can only stay there for 3 days at a time. Damn I hate this city.) And all that sweat has given me this. An engine bay full of non-corroded wires and supposed-to-be-working parts. :D Once I get the truck in the garage, I'll go through and decide how much I want to swap over. Next step is to hoist it off of the trailer and onto jack stands.
  11. I had my 2wd shaft shortened by a local shop for like $30. Others have had them retubed and that's what I would do next (using thicker than stock steel). Seems like $125 gets one retubed http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopi ... ht=twisted
  12. I went through the exact same thing. Bearing was wasted and the only thing left in the hole was the outer sleeve thingie. Too bad we couldn't get to you before you tried the grease technique, all I made was a big honkin' mess (and it squirted grease right at my eyes, thanks goodness for safety glasses). Careful what puller you get, as I bent the one I got at Harbor Freight, but still was able to make it work with some finagling. Try to clean out the grease as best you can (use a degreaser) and then spray in some PB blaster or other penetrant (not WD-40).
  13. That might be a bit of a challenge. :D An easier method is to fill to the bottom of the filler hole.
  14. Find a wrecked Liberty with the CRD. :D
  15. Just wanted to add this to the conversation, but using the exploder main leaf will push the axle a small amount forward in the wheel well. Depending on the tire/wheel combo this could cause issues. If i didn't already have a 2wd MJ leaf pack to use, I was going to go with a Exploder pack (with the eyes cut off) under my MJ main leaf. That way I get the benefits of a lower height and the benefits of an extra leaf combating spring wrap.
  16. I would recommend getting a 2wd driveshaft and have it cut down to the exact right length or better yet, take in any MJ shaft and have them re-tube it using your current ends. T-case drops eat up ground clearance and the slip yoke deelie is just a bandaid.
  17. Don't know for sure which it is, but for future reference it is always a wise idea to make sure you can get the fill plug out of the trans before you drain the fluid.. :D
  18. You wouldn't be the first to have contemplated that. :D
  19. Don't sweat it. :D If you need any specific help, just let me know.
  20. Well, if nothing else, the 88 sending unit will have your fuel gauge reading full when it's empty and empty when it's full. :D They reversed polarity of the dang things in 91.
  21. I vote Renix. :D Nice and simple and it has a knock sensor. :D
  22. Try to use something that cures and turns hard (and does so in a reasonable amount of time). The roofing tar I used in my 88 is still soft and sticky even now. :(
  23. I'll be finding out in my MJs. I see no reason to put most of that crap back in.
  24. One word: ... stroker ... :D
