How much lift did you get with them?
-
Looks like an ad for his business more than an ad for the Jeep.
-
Actually, I'm not certain if the height you desire is possible without going to an inverted leaf. Some measurements should show if it is. And one more thought; don't fear going slightly higher in the rear than the front. In my opinion, a couple inches higher won't make the truck look funny, but if the rear is lower once you pile in the gear, it will look saggy.

A 90* shackle provides a good balance between droop and stuff. A 45* with shorter leafs would limit droop and a 45* with longer leafs would limit stuff. The 2wd leafs (with extra main) on my truck are very very flat. Any flatter and they might as well be inverted. Add an extra main leaf (maybe from an Explorer) and you should get your cargo capacity and your desired height. But I guess if you're looking for 4" of lift with the bed empty, this may not work perfect. It's hard to compromise between cargo capacity and flex.

summer badlands meet? now official!
Pete M replied to 89eliminator's topic in Adventure Planning / Regional Groups
You only need one person (doesn't matter who I guess) to step up and take down all the info and put it into an excel spreadsheet. Then that person would send the document to all parties going. That way no matter what happens, everyone will have everyone else's info. -
Just PM me with an address and I'll send magnets and business cards for free. If you want a decal or sticker, check out the link in my signature.

XJ to MJ, which parts will work?
Pete M replied to cozee's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Keep in mind that there are "model" differences (like comparing an 88 MJ to an 88 XJ) but there are also "year" difference (ex: Renix-vs-H.O.) and drivetrain differences (ex: 2wd-vs-4wd or 4.0-vs-2.5/2.8). There are tons of subtle (and not so subtle) differences to keep track of. -
Just a regular ol' switch in the cab. It pulls hot air out of the engine compartment and pushes it forwards, away from the cab. Works on the freeway too, as there isn't any "forced air induction" going on in that exact spot on the hood. In fact, when the fan is off, air still comes out of the hood (little puffs of blow-by smoke were wisping out from the hood). The fan was way too powerful for this particular application (it was just some random fan in the junkyard) so I toned it down using an old resistor pack from the interior blower of the truck. Careful about those resistor packs, as they get hot enough to catch paper towel on fire. Inside the cab the resistors are put directly into the air flow so I replicated that when I put them near my hood fan.

I had the darndest time getting them to stay put too. I "glued" them in with black silicone.
-
Get one with the big red guard that you flip up to access the switch. :D

I found my good ol' fashioned paper copy and it says that 27 means the "Injector output driver does not respond properly to the control signal". Or whatever that means. :hmm: If you can get it scanned with a DRBII tool, apparently it'll show which injector it is.

summer badlands meet? now official!
Pete M replied to 89eliminator's topic in Adventure Planning / Regional Groups
From my experiences with organizing get-togethers, it's wise to gather up names, cell phone numbers, estimated arrival times, places where people are staying, etc and give that list to everyone attending so that communication is possible beyond just trying to use the CB when you get there Saturday. There are a ton of other folks at the badlands on the weekend and there's no guarantee that CB communication is reliable for making first contact with people. I found that the campground was a good spot for meeting (if someone is staying there) as there are fewer rigs in it than the expansive and multilevel parking lot. -
So, do you need more magnets? :brows:
-
Looking back, my MJs have caused lots of mild scratches and of course headaches (caused by frustration or by banging my head when working underneath the 88), but no truly serious injuries. As accident prone as I am and for home much time I spend on them, I find it kinda odd. :hmm:

All you guys with the tiny trucks in your avatar, STAND CLOSER TO IT! Or at least crop the photo a little. We don't really need to see the pavement or your neighbors house or whatever. :D If anyone wants their avatar improved, just email me the fullsize image and your screen name and I'll take care of the rest. petermontie@hotmail.com

Was: Stroker 4.6L swap, Now: 4.0L swap... apparently...

Do you know if they've done Jeep inline-6 engines before? Specifically any strokers? -

yes It's real easy once you get the hang of it. First you need to host them at another site like Comanche Club Image Hosting. Follow their instructions to upload your pics and then get the picture's internet address. (I usually right-click on the image and select "properties, then copy the address that's listed in there, but the websites might have a different way of doing it.) Then copy that addy and go to the forums. You can add them into your post by pasting the address, then highlight it, then click on the IMG tag. Then the picture should appear in your post. There are some other tips and tricks, but that should get you started. -
Probably on a big promotional tour with GM.

Pete M replied to Pete M's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
This block was professionally rebuilt (.04 over in the cylinders) and I'm not touching the innards with a 10 ft pole. It'll be swapped directly into the 88 as-is. Then, later on (when I have money again), I'll build a stroker like I was going to do before (using the 4.0 and 4.2 I have in storage), put the stroker into the 88 and move this rebuild over to the 90. Or if the 88 works good with the rebuilt motor, maybe I'll put the stroker into the 90 and burn the MTRs down to shreds. :D -

Pete M replied to Pete M's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Well, since this one turned out to not be a stroker, I'll eventually be going through with my plan to build one using the extra 4.0 and 4.2 that I bought years ago. It's a 12 cw one for more offroad oompf at clutch engagement. Trimming off the extra length isn't too big a problem. Are you asking about how to put pictures in your posts? -
Are the cookies okay'ed? It could be a cookie issue. Does it keep signing you out?

I can answer the second question. Just have them cut down the other end and leave the rubber isolator end alone. That's what I did. :D

Many bots are obvious, other's are a bit trickier. Some use real sounding names or use fake email addresses but with hotmail.com or the like in them. So I have to look down the profile and even then, some bots are obvious, some are not. So if I still have any doubts, I google their names or email addys. Frequently the same bot will use the same info on a bunch of other site. And if after all that I still can't tell if it's a person of a bot, I email them and ask. I'd say that 90% are totally obvious right off the bat (both bots and people) and the others require a bit of work.

It's a bot for sure, but he'll never become active. I approve each new member before they can post. We get 5-10 bots a day. I hate them. :hateputers:
