If I were to build one, I'd install an AX-15 (stronger than your Peugeot) and the matching T-case (for the spline count), find and rebuild a Dana 44 or just install an 8.8, upgrade the shocks, and I remember reading that there were aftermarket metric tonne leafpacks out there. Don't forget to upgrade the gear ratio too for better-than-factory performance. :D

Also, in my book I'd pay extra for an original paint job. I've seen too much shadiness in this world and now re-paints scare me. Far too much they can be hiding.

Keep in mind that there are people in this world with more money than they know what to do with. Heck, maybe Jeep bought it. :hmm:

haha yeah, what happened to THAT?! The 88 was an absolute pile when I first bought it. Previous owner was a smoker, the back window and windshield were broken, tailgate didn't open, radio didn't work, it had an ugly aluminum topper on the back, and it ran on bald 215 tires. I did what I could to make it look cooler, but that picture does a good job of hiding the rust. By that time the rockers were mushy under the black bedliner, there was a gapping hole in the passenger side floor and the drivers side of the bed was already falling apart. Years and years of road salt and neglect by the 4 or 5 POs... :( But she's all grown up now... :D

From the factory? Heavy duty springs, heavy duty shocks and a heavy duty rear axle and I think an oil cooler if it's an auto.

I would take the alternator in to get the free check up on it. It might not be putting out enough amps to fully charge the battery.

If I had millions of dollars at my disposal, you can bet I'd pay a pretty penny for the right truck and apparently that was the right truck for someone. Heck, maybe it's better for the rest of you that I'm not a millionaire. I'd be buying up MJs left and right. :brows:

Those fumes really need to be sucked back into the engine. Otherwise you might end up smelling oil all the time. :(

The last time any vehicle at my house was at a shop, the idiot didn't put the grease fitting into the tierod end and it promptly died 2 months later. :headpop:

All I can really add is that I read once that a guy added a bar to his rear steer that locked it in the no-steer position. I think it was for competition use (for events where steering isn't allowed) but I would definitely consider a mod like that if the rig ever saw pavement or speeds above 15mph for safety reasons. My 2cents. :D

Without getting too technical, a posi (or limited slip) differential keeps both tires spinning.

I've always found it easier to leave the shackles attached to the leaves and unbolt them from the frame. And yes, 8.8s can be had with 3.55s. Although I've yet to find any evidence that the 3.55 8.8s ever had posi as an option. Posi is available on the 3.73 and 4.10 ones though. It's also an option on pretty much every Jeep rear axle you can use in this application. Try car-part.com too when you junkyard searching.

If your truck is still stock, all you need to do is match the current axle. A magnetic angle finder should help out here.

Mine shifted fine on the day it blew up. Right up to the bang sound. :( It's best to be prepared, but there's no guarantee that it'll die tomorrow or 5 years from now.

It might be easier to list what doesn't swap. :D The vehicles are essentially the same as far as parts you can unbolt (drivetrain, wiring, front suspension). Just about everything from the back of the MJ doors to the rear bumper is different. The rear suspension is different, but Cherokee rear axles can be used if you weld on new perches. The XJ bucket seats can be modified to work if you use your current floor brackets, but 4 door seats don't lean forward (2 door ones do) and the rocking or power seats don't swap as well as the regular flat track seats.

All Explorers/Mountineers 95-01 will have disks. And while we're throwing out info, all explorers (even pre-95) will have the big 31 spline axle shafts. It's a good axle choice. :D
