Just doesn't get that cold here in southern Michigan.

I strap the hi-lift to my rig with a ratchet strap, anyone else try that?

GM 173 V6 swap for AMC 258 I6
Pete M replied to tkgibbs27's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The 3.4 is a more modern version of the 2.8L. Swapping an entire drivetrain is not a good way to save money on fuel. Swapping an engine to gain more power and better reliability is certainly worthwhile. The simplest way is to just use the 3.4L block and put all of your 2.8L parts (intake, pullys, etc) on to it and then run a better carb. The more complex way is to swap the entire engien assembly including the wire in the harness from the Camaro and get the fuel injection system. I have no idea of your skills and determination so I can't say which is the better choice for you. See this site for some pointers: http://jeep.off-road.com/jeep/article/a ... ?id=277008 -
I'd get the Rubi in a heartbeat, whether it's destined to be a DD or wheeler.

GM 173 V6 swap for AMC 258 I6

One last thing to consider, he's not asking about the 4.0, but a 258 and there's no way that I would trade one turd for another in any of my trucks. The 3.4L (from an early 90s Camaro or Firebird) swap is waaaay easier for the 86 trucks with the 2.8L and if you're up to the challenge, you can swap over the electronics and get the Camaro's fuel injection too. :D -
tank heater? For heating the gas tank or ??? :hmm:

I find it hard to comment on pinion angles after I put my rear suspension together with absolutely no regard to proper angles (just used the angle that the Bronco axle had) and have had no problems with it. :dunno: Drove it 3000 miles to Moab and back. I know i shouldn't work like that, so I've been attributing my dumb luck to the rubber-isolator driveshaft and using new U-joints. Maybe someday I'll actually go measure the angles. I guess there's a chance they are acceptable, although the Bronco had a CV shaft out back.

Those of you who have dropped a rig off the hi-lift, what was it that slipped? The jack off the rig? The jack base on the ground? or did the rig move on you?

need some slip for my yoke :(
Pete M replied to mjeff87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
While we're on the subject, I've got a Dana 44 swapped into my 90 and the driveshaft is also a bit too long now. I've got a 4.0L/AX-15 combo so in theory, I should be able to find a 4.0L/AW-4 driveshaft and it should be perfect due to the AW-4 being about an inch longer than the AX-15, yes? -
brake fluid filled fuse boxes,, suck!
Pete M replied to jtdesigns's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I didn't pay that much but it's like a $60 item. And I'll have to combine a few of the truck's functions (or eliminate them) since there aren't quite as many fuses as the factory. It might be awhile before I try it though, so don't hold your breath. :( -

Hmmm, that's pretty close to violating rule #2... :fool: I'll let it slide this time. :D http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1239 -
brake fluid filled fuse boxes,, suck!
Pete M replied to jtdesigns's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've got to deal with a bad fuse box in the 90 and I'm going with a Painless aftermarket fuse box. No idea if it'll be better or worse than using a factory one but it's the one I'm going to try. -
Definitely husky in my older dog. :D We need to regulate his time outside, but that's no biggie. He's pushing 13 and can still do a 5+ mile walk. (stairs are a whole 'nuther issue)

Never would have given a pink nose a second thought until we found out years ago that my dog has Lupis (sp?) and is essentially allergic to the sun.

New toys are fun. :D Out of curiosity, does your dog's nose always have the pink spot or does it change with the seasons?

Back when the 88 was 2wd and me DD I generally shifted around 3500-4k. :D When the Dakota became my DD I gained an extra hundred or so horses from the 360 and it only cost me an extra dollar a day in gas for a 2-3 hour commute. Fuel mileage was never really a big selling point with me. Even with the diesel Libby (where 30+mpg is not unheard of), all I really wanted was the 300 ft-lbs of torque and that glorious turbo whistle.

The only person in my family that plays already has a piano. And there's no sentimental value here beyond trying to save a 90 year old piano from the scrap pile. I finally got approved for the piano website, but I bet I already know what they'll tell me. The piano definitely needs a tuning and likely needs new felt. But I'm no expert and maybe tomorrow (cause the heat today is unbearable) I'll haul it over to a piano store and see what they say.

More than a dollar, that's for sure.

Brake lines question and fuel line availability
Pete M replied to BRC 88MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've re-tubed 2 MJs so far and they are all 3/16". The MJ only uses one of those lines running to the back at any one time. The double flare is tricky, but keep practicing. Also, it's more difficult with the cheapo flaring tools. -
I'm convinced the shift light in my 88 is simply haunted. :D

1985 Comanche project from Finland, Europe
Pete M replied to A-V's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I apologize for the small pic (all I had in the 'puter), but the upper illustration is a 2.5L an the CPS looks to be in the same general area as the 4.0L, just a bit lower on the bellhousing. -
Yup, my searches came to the same conclusions. And some searching on pianoworld has told me that, while I have a very old and apparently well-built piano, it ain't worth jack. Bummer. Tomorrow I'm going to search out some local piano shops and get their opinions about what to do with it. I'd rather not scrap it out if I can sell it, even if the selling price is less than the $$ in brass inside. Image Not Found

The only reason not to is the cost. But if you can afford a heavy-duty SYE kit plus a new driveshaft, then by all means go for it. :D It's a good upgrade.
