  1. So I finally got to see the hat and, other than a couple minor changes, it looks good. :D I forgot the camera though, so I'll have to go back so I can get you a picture of it. Since I've now officially ordered them all, in the coming days I'll be sending out reminders for those who haven't yet sent payment.
  2. A 242 allows 4wd travel on dry pavement. A 231 requires a slippery surface or else damage is possible. I don't know the difference between the police 242 and the non-police 242.
  3. aaaaaaaaaaand I'm back. Man do I feel sorry for all you spoiled floridians. Standing around in winter jackets when it's only 50* outside. I never even had to unpack my long pants or jacket the entire trip. :D

    Big Problems

Looks like a simple fix. Thank goodness it didn't cause an accident.

    Poor Planning

Keys? Who needs keys? The 90 is missing the floor, the 88 has a busted rear axle, and good luck figuring out how to start the 86. :D
  6. I picked up my infrared thermometer from Sears for under $50. :D Opens up a whole new world of problem solving possibilities.
  7. He eventually parted it out. I have the gas tank and a couple other things from it. :D
  8. Since all that's going on is ripping the poor guy a new one without actually knowing what's currently going on, I'm locking this topic for the time being. If anyone learns of anything new, feel free to PM me or better yet, PM Eagle and we'll go from there.
  9. Not a lot of XJ left I see. :D Good luck Goatman!
  10. Gearing really is your friend. I've got a 4.0 and do everything in 4lo. No amount of engine torque will be better than the sweet control that low gearing gives. Even the big dogs use low range for everything but maybe sand and mud pits. It lets your engine stay in its optimum rpm (which I think is about ~2k for the 4.0) at the same time the tires are at their optimum rpm. (granted that the terrain "optimum" will change which is probably why there has been an explosion in available gearings for t-case, both stock and aftermarket)
  11. Yeah, he's wheelin in 2wd until he gets the front axle replaced.
  12. I always like to recommend exercising caution in situations like this. There's always a chance the guy's in the hospital or some other extenuating circumstances. And I like to exchange phone numbers before sending parts/money. Email is so unreliable. :hateputers:
  13. Some quick and dirty research a while back pointed to ABS equipped 93-95 YJs having the right shafts for the bigger joints. Don't know for sure what is accurate though. :(
  14. Holy cow, guys. The steel is cut, there's no need to keep crying over spilled milk. It's his truck that he rescued from oblivion and decided to make a bad-azz trail rig out of it instead of keeping it a stocker. I would like to see some better "after" pics though. :brows:
  15. Better than highs in the teens. :D And I plan on bringing a snowball to Georgia and whipping it at my brother in law when we pick up my sister. :brows:
  16. "Pete, the Giants just won the Superbowl, where ya goin' next?" I'm going to Disney World!!!!! I'll have internet access so I won't disappear entirely, but I'll be a little slower on approving new members and I'll be 1200 miles from my harddrive and stickers, so stuff like that will have to wait 'til I return. I leave Friday early afternoon, so there's still time if anyone needs any stickers before I go. :driving: :jump:
  17. I like the stripes. I wish my pioneer had them instead of the gold olympic stripes. :(
  18. Just checkin'. :D Then it's definitely worth sinking money into. And I would go with 4.56.
  19. Is the rear axle a Dana 35 or an 8.25?
  20. Don't think of the MTs as having an "extra" leaf, but rather being a completely different pack. My '86 MT doesn't look any higher than my '90 4x4 but I've never gotten out the measuring tape (which won't happen any time soon either since there's an engine block in the back of the MT and the 90 has a custom pack so nothing would be reliable). New leafs will likely be different than junkyard leafs. All depends on the manufacturer.
  21. The sample hat should arrive Monday. Too bad I'll be 1200 miles away in Disney. :headpop: But I sorta expected as much. Nothing else has happened in a timely manner, why should that? I can only imagine how long this would have taken if we had gone with the Chinese-made hats. You better believe I'm calling the guy on Monday to see if the hat arrived. :D
  22. That's because our free forum software doesn't always send out the automated emails.
  23. My blind bet is on a short somewhere in the harness. :( I would grab my multimeter and start following the wires.
  24. I did it for you. And I also hate it. After wasting many many minutes not being able to find the things I wanted, I switched back. :hateputers:
